Respiratory Care Therapist

Respiratory care means the therapy, management, rehabilitation, diagnostic evaluation and care, administered on the order of a physician or surgeon, of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities affecting the cardiopulmonary system and associated aspects of other bodily systems.

Fees

  • License fee: $65.00
  • Criminal background check fee: $21.00

Term

  • Annually April 30th

Requirements

General Requirements for All Applicants

  • Completed initial application to include:
    • Completed application and fees
    • Verification of licensure
    • Written confirmation of applicant's credential from the NBRC

Education

  • Be a graduate of an educational program for respiratory therapists/respiratory technicians which is recognized by the board and accredited by the American Medical Association in collaboration with the Joint Review Committee for Respiratory Therapy Education

Examination

  • Pass an examination as provided for in 32 MRSA §9709 of the Board's Law.

  • Annually renewal fee of $65.00

Terms

  • Renews annually on April 30th

Renew Now

  • Fill out the online renewal application and submit.

    The Department must verify that you have met all the conditions for renewal before your license is renewed. Online submission of your renewal application should not be construed as automatic renewal of your license.

Requirements

  • Renewal applications received after the expiration date will require a late fee of $50.00.
  • An individual who submits an application for renewal more than 90 days after the license expiration date is subject to all requirements governing new applicants under this chapter, except that the board may, in its discretion and giving due consideration to the protection of the public, waive examination if that renewal application is made within 2 years from the date of that expiration. The ninety day extended renewal period should not in any way be construed to permit the practice of respiratory care after the date of expiration.
  • Renewal reminders are electronically mailed approximately 60 days prior to the license expiration date to the last known address on file. It is the licensee's responsibility to keep the Board informed of his or her current mailing address.

Effective May 7, 2011 rule change. Continuing Education is no longer required for licensure renewal.
