The Office of Professional and Occupational Regulation (OPOR) encourages active and retired military and military spouses to apply for a state occupational or professional license. Please contact us for assistance with your application and to receive appropriate credit for your military training and experience.
Pursuant to Public Law 2021, Chapter 106 (PDF), any active or recently separated military, or their spouse, who is licensed in good standing another state can receive a Temporary Maine License while they apply for their full Maine license. This Temporary License is available to any profession or occupation licensed by OPOR.
We recommend that you contact the licensing board staff prior to submitting the Temporary License application since it may be more advantageous to you to apply for full licensure without first obtaining the Temporary License. The application for a Temporary license is available at this link: Application for a Temporary License (PDF).
Please note that the following Military documentation may need to accompany your application for full licensure:
- A copy of your DD Form 214, Report of Discharge
- A copy of your DD Form 2586, Verification of Military Experience and Training (VMET)
The US Department of Veterans Affairs offers reimbursement for certain licensing examinations. For more information and to see if you are eligible, please visit the VA website at this link: VA Test Fee Reimbursement.
We invite you to contact us for more information and to discuss your licensing options.
