I want to sell Real Estate. How do I get started?
You must pass the sales agent course. After the course you must pass the Sales Agent Exam.

How do I sign up for the exam?
Contact Pearson Vue to schedule the sales agent exam. You will need to bring your ORIGINAL sales agent Course Completion Certificate with you to the exam site.

Where do I take the exam?
The exam is given in Westbrook and Bangor. Pearson Vue administers the exam.

What about deadlines?
You must pass the exam within one year of finishing your class.

  • You must apply for a license within one year of passing the exam.

How do I apply for a license?
Apply online. Be sure to include

  • $121, payable to Maine State Treasurer;
  • Original examination results; and
  • Original Course Completion Certificate.

How many CE credits do I need to renew my license?
None. Sales Agent licenses are not renewable.

Can I put my Sales Agent license on inactive status?
It is not advisable to put a Sales agent license on inactive status. The Sales Agent license is not renewable. One requirement to qualify for the Associate Broker license is that you must have been actively affiliated with an agency for the full 24 month licensing period.

My license expires soon and I haven't taken the Associate Broker class. Can I have an extension?
To apply for an extension, complete the Sales Agent Extension Application with the $100 extension fee. 

Is my application confidential?
No. With the exception of Social Security Number, all application information is public. Contact information provided to the Commission is posted on our website.
