Notice to Harvesters: Maine-New Hampshire Inshore Trawl Survey to Begin September 22nd

The Fall 2025 ME-NH trawl survey conducted by the State of Maine, Department of Marine Resources is scheduled to begin September 22nd.  We will sample from Portland, ME to Portsmouth, NH before heading back east to Lubec, ME.  The more information we have regarding our fisheries, the better equipped we are to defend these resources and your livelihoods. The ME-NH trawl survey provides valuable information for the management of important commercially harvested species.

Body of Massachusetts Man Recovered Near Long Island Ledges in Bremen

Bremen - The Maine Marine Patrol is investigating the death of Mark Metzger, 74 of Waltham, Massachusetts, whose body was recovered yesterday by the US Coast Guard near Long Island Ledges. Friends of Mr. Metzger reported him missing yesterday at approximately 11:40 a.m. after failing to locate him aboard his 19-foot sailboat which was anchored on the western side of Bremen Long Island. The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, Maine Marine Patrol, US Coast Guard, Maine Forest Service, and local emergency response personnel all responded and participated in the search. Mr.

MENHADEN: EESA Fishery OPENS Thursday, August 28, at 12:01 a.m.

Notice to all Commercial Menhaden Harvesters: 

This notice is to inform harvesters that Maine has been granted approval to participate in the Episodic Event Set Aside (EESA) fishery. The EESA fishery OPENS tomorrow, Thursday, August 28, 2025 at 12:01 a.m. 

The EESA quota is 5.1 million pounds. Both the state of Maine and Massachusetts are participating and will begin harvesting Thursday.

 

2025 COMMERCIAL HARVEST: EPISODIC ALLOCATED FISHERY HARVEST CONTROLS

Notice to all Commercial Menhaden Harvesters: State Fishery Closure Date Amended to Monday, August 25 at 11:59 PM

Earlier this week, the Department announced that the state allocation fishery for menhaden would
close on Sunday, August 24 at 11:59 p.m. However, this week's landings have been lower than
expected, so DMR is now amending the closure date to next Monday, August 25, at 11:59 p.m. This
will provide an additional commercial harvest day on Monday, August 25th under the weekly limit of
17,850 pounds.
