NOAA Recommends Funding to Improve Flood Mitigation, Water Quality, Drinking Water and Septic Infrastructure in Columbia and Addison
Addison – A project planned by the Maine Department of Marine Resources that will support flood mitigation, restore water quality, and improve drinking and septic infrastructure on the West Branch of the Pleasant River has been recommended for funding by NOAA.
Body of Colorado Man Recovered from Frenchman Bay
Bar Harbor - The body of 73-year-old Dennis Webber of Colorado Springs, Colorado was recovered at 10 p.m. Saturday from Frenchman Bay.
According to the Maine Marine Patrol, Dr. Webber had launched his kayak for a solo trip from a location at the end of Seely Road in Bar Harbor at approximately 4:30 p.m. yesterday. When he failed to return, a family member notified the Bar Harbor Police Department at approximately 8:30 p.m. A search was then initiated involving members of the Maine Marine Patrol, the U.S. Coast Guard and the National Park Service.
Registration Now Open for 2024 Maine Coastal Cleanup
Augusta – The Maine Coastal Program, a Division of the Maine Department of Marine Resources (DMR), has opened registration for the annual Coastal Cleanup. The Coastal Cleanup is a volunteer-driven initiative designed to clean debris from Maine’s coastal shores and waterfront communities.

Public Notice of Federal Consistency Review - NMFS Proposed Amendments to NARW Vessel Strike Reduction Rule
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) proposes to amend the North Atlantic Right Whale (NARW) Vessel Strike Reduction Rule for states bordering the Atlantic Ocean. This action is subject to review for consistency with the enforceable policies of Maine Coastal Program under 15 CFR 930, subpart C. Public comments will be accepted through July 16, 2024 and can be sent to DMRCoastalProgram_FC@maine.gov.
