Programs and Environmental Review

The Department of Marine Resources Bureau of Sea-Run Fisheries and Habitat supports regulatory review processes by conducting, evaluating and providing comments on activities that may impact DMR’s ability to maintain fisheries. Examples of this work include:

  • Provide comments and recommend studies for projects up for relicensing under FERC (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission)

  • Establish fee-structure to mitigate habitat disturbance from roadway and other construction projects that are within Atlantic Salmon habitat

  • Maintain counts of migratory fish at multiple locations

  • Partner with Federal Agencies (NOAA Fisheries and US Fish and Wildlife) in activities related to management and recovery of Federally endangered species. E.g. Atlantic Salmon Recovery Plan implementation, Atlantic Sturgeon listing determination.

  • Convene stakeholders around restoration opportunities across the state
