Shark Management Public Forum - Hybrid

Date: November 6, 2025

Time: 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Location: Department of Marine Resources, 194 McKown Point Rd

Town: West Boothbay Harbor

The Maine DMR will be holding public forums to present ongoing shark research and discuss the public's vision for the future of shark management in Maine.

Shark Research

As part of the Highly Migratory Species (HMS) Research, the DMR collects data on sharks in the Gulf of Maine. DMR biologist Matt Davis will be highlighting some of this research as well as other projects occurring in Maine. Information on the DMR HMS Research can be found HERE.

Shark Management

Coastal sharks are managed by NOAA Fisheries, the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC), and the State. In the past year, especially, the topic of sharks in Maine waters has become a topic of interest. Do you have thoughts on the future of shark management in Maine? This may be regarding any aspect of shark management including: recreational fishing, commercial fishing, complimentary NOAA or ASMFC rules, or even public safety.

Public Meetings

There are two meetings in which you can participate. One meeting will be in-person only and the other will be in-person with a webinar option for those unable to travel to meetings locations. After a short presentation, DMR staff will be looking for public participation to discuss what you all see as Maine shark management moving forward.
