Those interested in offshore wind development within the Gulf of Maine should be aware that the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has released a draft Fisheries Mitigation Strategy. The draft document provides high level guidance for mitigating impacts to commercial and recreational fisheries from offshore wind development and was developed in an attempt to provide consistency between offshore wind projects and for equitable treatment of fisheries. The draft provides high level recommendations related to project siting, design, navigation, access, safety measures and financial compensation. BOEM is accepting public comments on the draft until August 22, 2022.

The draft strategy and associated documents, and instructions on how to submit comments is available here: https://www.regulations.gov/docket/BOEM-2022-0033

In response to the publication of this document, the Department of Marine Resources is hosting a remote public meeting at 5:00pm on August 15, 2022. During this meeting a representative from BOEM will provide an overview of the draft guidance and answer questions. Members of the public are welcome to attend, and details on how to register and join the Zoom meeting are available at the end of this notice.
