September is Coastal Cleanup Month!
Registration is Now Open for the Maine Coastal Cleanup 2022!cleanup

2022 Coastweek sponsor 98.9 WCLZ

The International Coastal Cleanup was established over 35 years ago to address the problem of trash in our oceans and on our coasts.  The Ocean Conservancy manages the ICC and maintains a database of all the items that volunteers around the world record when collecting trash.  As of 2020, the one-day event in September has become a whole month of Cleanups around the world! See the 2021 results from Maine and the world.

MCP has been the State Coordinator for the International Coastal Cleanup for over 30 years and remains committed to supporting and facilitating annual Cleanups of our coastal beaches and waterways.  Volunteers join MCP by adopting a location and soliciting others to join them in cleaning up the trash from their location of choice and help to keep our coast and ocean trash free!

How do I participate in the Maine Coastal Cleanup?
By visiting our Coordinator Registration Form (below) you can choose your cleanup location from a drop down menu of options.  If you do not see your preferred location it has probably been adopted by someone else and you will need to choose a different location from the menu options.  You will also choose your preferred date and time of day.

Once your registration has been received we will remove your chosen location from the options on the location menu.  If you indicate on the registration form that your Cleanup is open to volunteers we will list your email below as the contact person along with the location, date and time of your event below.

In the week or so before your Cleanup you will receive a Coordinator package that will contain materials such as ICC datasheets and trash bags, a Coordinator t-shirt and informational materials to help with your event.  We are encouraging Coordinators to have their volunteers bring gloves, hats, buckets - to reduce the number of plastic bags needed at the Cleanup site - and water.  The Coordinator is responsible for the trash collected.

To promote your cleanup, download a copy of the 2022 poster by selecting the image below.
