Injury and Violence Prevention

The Office of Injury and Violence Prevention was recently created to coordinate and promote efforts to reduce violence. The office will strengthen work across the State to assess risk and bolster public health efforts. This includes the creation, coordination, and collaboration of injury and violence prevention work through:

Outdoor Safety

Outdoor safety is important for health. Staying safe outside could be engaging in outdoor activities for work or play.

Outdoor Play and Safety for Children

Outdoor play can have many benefits for children's healthy development, but spending time outside also comes with risks of illness and injury. Care providers can help keep children safe while they learn and stay active outside.

Fish and Seafood

Fish are an important part of a healthy diet. However, some freshwater fish have PFAS, mercury, PCBs, and dioxins in them. The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention is responsible for recommending safe eating guidelines for fish based on the presence of chemicals (MSRA 22 §1696 I). Follow the guidelines below.
