The Maternal, Fetal, and Infant Mortality Review (MFIMR) Panel honors the lives of people who have died during pregnancy or within one year of pregnancy as well as the babies born still and those who die before their first birthday.
The MFIMR Panel reviews de-identified cases to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the perinatal care delivery system and makes recommendations to decrease the mortality rate. Some examples of our partners in our work of prevention are Count the Kicks, Cradle ME, Help Me Grow, and March of Dimes .
We are a multidisciplinary group of health care and social service providers, public health officials, and other professionals in maternal, fetal, and infant health . You can help us improve the health of birthing people, children and families here in Maine by serving on the MFIMR Panel. Learn more about us and fill out an application.
If You Have Lost a Loved One
You may receive a letter from us after your loss inviting you to tell your story to a trained family interviewer. These conversations are confidential and voluntary.
If you need grief and bereavement support, we suggest checking out this Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Resource, or calling your local hospital or healthcare provider for a group in your area. For individual support, contact 211 Maine, the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline or the Postpartum Support International Hotline.
