The Prevention Team works with partners across the state to help prevent and reduce tobacco use, substance misuse, problem gambling, and suicide. Key state and local partners contributing to the success of this work include the Maine Prevention Network Partners, Maine CDC Chronic Disease Programs, Maine Office of Behavioral Health, and others.
Suicide Prevention
Promoting hope, healing, and support for all Mainers to help reduce suicide deaths and attempts. The Maine Suicide Prevention Program provides resources, technical assistance, and training in suicide prevention best practices for professionals and community members across Maine.
Tobacco Use Prevention and Treatment
Working to impact awareness and environments to reduce the number of people who start using tobacco and provide services to those who are thinking about, or ready to quit. Approaches include free services to help people quit tobacco, training and resources for health providers, training and resources for tobacco retailers to ensure they understand tobacco sales laws, working to reach youth and young adults to prevent them from starting to use tobacco.
Substance Misuse Prevention
The Substance Use Prevention Team provides technical assistance, training, data resources, funding, and educational materials related to substance use and gambling prevention initiatives at the state and local levels.
Problem Gambling
Working to reduce problem gambling by increasing awareness through trainings, campaigns and resources, connecting, connecting individuals to services, and providing guidance on responsible gambling.
