The Maine CDC focuses on preventing chronic diseases through work and programs focused on some of the main risk factors. Preventing Chronic Disease

There are things you can do to reduce your risk of getting a chronic disease. Some actions may also impact others around you. Steps you can take include:

  • Get regular exercise
  • Don't use tobacco
  • Avoid smoking around others
  • Limit alcohol consumption
  • Good oral health and regular cleanings
  • Get health check ups and screenings

Living with Chronic Disease

More than half of all adults have at least one chronic condition. They can still make healthy choices to help avoid complications and feel well. Stay connected with your health care providers and follow your treatment plan, eat well, and stay active.
