Maine Grocers and Maine Farmers who are authorized by the Maine Women, Infants and Children Program (WIC) are referred to as WIC authorized vendors. They are a vital to the WIC Program and help provide nutritious foods to women, infants, and children within their community. We support the consumption of fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables, and encourage shopping with local WIC authorized farmers.

Important Notice: Yogurt WIC Transactions

The WIC State Agency has been made aware that some WIC transactions are being denied at the store. The issue appears to be with yogurt. In some cases, transactions that include yogurt are returning an “Insufficient Funds” message, and the entire transaction is denied.

What to do:

  • If a participant is redeeming Whole or Non-Fat yogurt, please have them redeem these products in their main transaction.
  • If they are redeeming Low-Fat yogurt, please have them redeem it in a separate transaction.

This guidance is also being provided directly to WIC participants. Please support participants in following these steps so that their benefits can be redeemed successfully.

Thank you for your assistance and support in making sure WIC families can complete their purchases without issue.

Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP)

The FMNP is a program of the USDA's Food and Nutrition Services WIC Program. The focus of the program is to increase the use of fresh, unprocessed, locally grown fruits and vegetables by WIC participants.

From July 1 to Oct 31 many WIC customers will have FMNP Cash Value Benefits (CVB) to redeem with Maine WIC Authorized Farmers only. The WIC Fruits & Vegetables CVB are redeemable with WIC authorized grocers or WIC authorized farmers.
