For Survivors

The information in this section is meant to help as you deal with the devastation associated with a death by suicide.  Please know that you are not alone. Over 1,000 people in Maine become survivors each year.  We are sorry for your loss.

We hope the following booklet helps you through the first few weeks and months of your journey. It was created in partnerships with survivors of suicide who shared information and advice that they found helpful.

I've lost a loved one to suicide. What do I do now?

Voices of Survivors Speakers Bureau training

The Suicide Survivor Speakers Bureau are a group of individuals who lost a loved one to suicide and are trained to speak safely and effectively about their loss in order to increase awareness and help prevent suicide in Maine. The Maine Suicide Prevention Program within the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention and NAMI Maine provide free training for suicide survivors interested in participating. If you are a survivor and would like to be trained to be a member of the Speakers Bureau, or for more information on how to schedule a presentation, contact the MSPP Training Director at NAMI Maine at 1-800-464-5767. Together, we can make a difference!
