    08-03-22

    Trooper Kim Sawyer received a report of a motor vehicle accident in Robbinston.  Robert Poole 2nd (40) of Calais was arrested after he failed the Standardized Field Sobriety Test and transported to Baileyville Police Department for an intoxilizer test.  Baileyville Police Department Officer Dave Claroni, a Drug Recognition Expert, conducted his evaluation and determined that Robert was impaired.  Robert was transported to the Washington County Jail without incident.

    Trooper Kim Sawyer received a report of a vehicle off the road on Rt. 1/ Charlotte Road in Calais.  Trooper Kim Sawyer arrived and saw the operator staggering around his vehicle and spoke with the operator Corey McPhee (50) of Houlton after he failed the Standardized Field Sobriety Test and transported to the Calais Police Department for an intoxilizer test.  Corey was transported to the Washington County Jail.

    Sergeant Jeff Ingemi summonsed Mitchell Gower (19) of Calais, for Possession of Alcohol by a Minor after he was found in parking lot in Calais passed out.  Corporal Owen Reed assisted.

     

  • Troopers make three arrests: seize drugs, firearms and cannon

    On Thursday, August 4th, 2022 Troopers from Troop D traveled to School Ridge Road in Liberty in an attempt to locate a wanted person. Troopers located and arrested 27-year-old Cole Libby who lived at the residence on warrants out of Knox, Waldo, and Franklin County. 

    The investigation revealed that Libby was in possession of approximately 50 grams of Fentanyl. Also located at his home were several firearms as well drug scales and approximately $8,500 in suspected drug proceeds. 

    At Libby’s residence at the time were 28-year-old Felichia Glidden of Liberty and 56-year-old Randall Smith also of Liberty, both of whom are convicted felons.
    Glidden was in possession of methamphetamine and prescription drugs. Randall Smith was found to be in possession of approximately 6 grams of Methamphetamine, $1,700 in suspected drug proceeds, and two pistols. (The $1,700 is separate from the $8,500.)

    A further search of the residence turned up numerous high-value items stolen in recent commercial thefts including a Can-Am Side by Side and a cannon. 

    Cole Libby is charged with Aggravated Trafficking of Schedule W Drugs (Class A), Receiving Stolen Property (Class C), and Violating Conditions of Release. 
    Felichia Glidden is charged with Unlawful Possession of Schedule Drugs (Class D), Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person (Class C), Aggravated Trafficking of Schedule W Drugs (Class A)
    Randall Smith is charged with Trafficking in Schedule Drugs (Class B), Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person (Class C)Liberty Arrest

    Libby, Glidden, and Smith were taken to the Waldo County Jail. At this time all three are out on bail.

    Trooper Travis Chapman investigated a welfare check complaint in Milbridge involving a confused driver. As a result, the 74-year-old driver was located and due to her mental state, it was determined she was not safe to be operating a motor vehicle. Vehicle was removed from scene.

    Brief Synopsis:       With the coordination of the Maine State Police Fugitive Task Force, Tr. Dave Alexander, Cpl. Quint met with authorities at the Houlton POE to bring a fugitive to jail.  A Texas man had been in Canada and was turned over to the United States due to a fully extraditable warrant from Texas for Abuse of a Child.  The man is currently being held at the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Desrosier was parked in Grand Isle and observed a side-by-side UTV driving in the middle of US Highway 1 and it did not appear to be registered.  When the operator saw Tr. Desrosier’s cruiser, he slowed and turned onto a side road.  Tr. Desrosier followed the machine and initiated a traffic stop.  After an investigation, the man was arrested for OUI and later posted bail.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Castonguay responded to a traffic complaint in Patten resulting in an OUI arrest.  The complainant stated a man in a sports car is spinning his tires and went off the road once already.  The man got out and confronted the homeowner after the homeowner said he was calling the police.  The driver started to fight with the homeowner and was held down until Tr. Castonguay arrived.  Further investigation revealed the man was intoxicated and was arrested.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Martin was investigating a burglary and was looking to speak with a male subject reference to the burglary. Tr. Martin knew that the individual he was looking for had an active arrest warrant for failure to appear. Tr. Martin got to the male’s parents’ residence where he saw the male mowing the lawn. The male then saw Tr. Martin and started driving the lawn mower behind the house. Tr. Martin followed the male out back. The male was trying to get into the house when Tr. Martin advised him to stop because he needed to talk to him. The male complied with Tr. Martin’s order. The male advised he had nothing to do with the burglary and was placed under arrest on his warrant.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Merchant was asked to conduct a DRE evaluation on an individual for Fort Fairfield Police Department. Fort Fairfield Police Department had been called reference to a box truck that was in an accident. When Fort Fairfield Police Department arrived, the male driver appeared to be under the influence of something. The male was placed under arrest and taken in for an intoxilyzer test  and Tr. Merchant conducted a DRE evaluation on the male. At the conclusion of Tr. Merchant’s evaluation, she found the male to be impaired by Narcotics. The male consented to a blood draw and was charged with Operating Under the Influence of Drugs.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Cotton was conducting traffic enforcement in Hodgdon when he observed a vehicle with no brake lights. Tr. Cotton conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the male operator. Through his investigation, Tr. Cotton learned the male’s driver’s license was suspended for failure to maintain required liability insurance. Tr. Cotton also discovered the vehicle’s registration and inspection sticker had expired in November of 2021. The operator was also unable to provide proof of insurance. Tr. Cotton charged the 27-year-old Houlton man with Operating after Suspension and provided him a Houlton District Court date in November. He was also cited for the inspection and insurance violations and warned for the registration violation.

    Brief Synopsis:       On 6/1/22, Tr. Roy began investigating a theft complaint in Woodland. The victim reported that he moved his camper and his personal belongings to a vacant lot in Woodland. He reported that someone went inside his camper and stole jewelry, clothing, and other household items. The victim also reported he had tools stored under some trees near the camper and those were stolen as well. Through his investigation and interviews, Tr. Roy learned of a suspect and worked with the victim to gather evidence. On 8/10/22, an arrest warrant was issued for the suspect, a 33-year-old Presque Isle female. The warrant included two counts of felony theft, and one count of felony possession of stolen property.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Roy was conducting traffic enforcement in Bridgewater when he observed a vehicle traveling towards him at a high rate of speed. Tr. Roy activated his radar and determined the vehicle to be traveling 91 mph in the posted 55 mph speed zone. Tr. Roy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the male operator. The male advised Tr. Roy he was running late for work. He was also unable to provide proof of insurance for his vehicle. Tr. Roy issued the 33-year-old Texas man a speeding citation for 25-29 mph over the limit, and a citation for failure to provide evidence of insurance.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Roy was conducting traffic enforcement in Monticello when he observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. Tr. Roy activated his radar and determined the vehicle to be traveling 75 mph in the posted 45 mph speed zone. Tr. Roy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the male operator. He issued the 62-year-old Orono man a speeding citation for 25-29 mph over the limit.

    Brief Synopsis:       The Houlton RCC received a report of theft of gasoline in Van Buren. Tr. Curtin spoke with the homeowner who advised someone had siphoned gasoline out of a vehicle, and multiple ATVs on his property. The investigation is active and ongoing.

    On 08/09/2022, Tr. Phillips was conducting traffic enforcement on I95 in the Scarborough area. While monitoring traffic Tr. Phillips had a vehicle pass him traveling at 106 mph in a 70-mph zone. Tr. Phillips conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle without issue. The driver was summonsed for criminal speed.

    On 08/10/2022, Tr. Ellis stopped Jerry Thibodeau (35) of Massachusetts for criminal speeding 100/70 on the ME turnpike northbound in Saco. He was summonsed for the speed.

    On 08/12/2022, Cpl. Cote stopped Aaron Olsen (33) of Dover, NH on the ME Turnpike southbound in South Portland.  His right to operate in Maine was suspended x 4.  He was charged with Operating after Suspension and his vehicle was towed away.

    On 08/12/2022, Tr. Ellis stopped Prabhansh Sharma (27) of Massachusetts for criminal speeding 106/70 on the ME turnpike northbound in Scarborough. He was summonsed for the speed and an unsafe lane change. Tr. Phillips assisted.

    On 08/12/2022, Tr. Phillips was conducting traffic enforcement on I95 in the Biddeford area. While monitoring traffic Tr. Phillips had a vehicle pass him traveling at 104 mph in a 70-mph zone. Tr. Phillips conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle without issue. The driver was summonsed for criminal speed.

    On 08/13/2022, Tr. Ellis stopped Gryphon C Traigle (21) of Biddeford for criminal speeding 100/70 on the ME turnpike southbound in Saco. He was summonsed for the speed.

    On 08/13/2022, Tr. Ellis stopped Shabeer Babak (30) of Lewiston for criminal speeding 103/70 on the ME turnpike southbound in York. He was summonsed for the speed.

    On 08/13/2022, Tr. Ellis stopped Barbara Montgomery (27) of Vermont for criminal speeding 102/70 on the ME turnpike northbound in Scarborough. She was summonsed for the speed.

    On 08/13/2022, Tr. Bourdelais received a complaint for erratic operation and a hit and run at the New Gloucester tolls on the turnpike. The vehicle was stopped on the turnpike in Falmouth and the operator was identified as Leelu Hinkley. Upon further investigation, Hinkley appeared to be under the influence.  She was put through field sobriety tests and subsequently arrested.  The vehicle was towed and the operator was taken to the Troop B barracks where she was administered an intoxilyzer test.  The results were over the legal limit.  She was charged accordingly.

    On 08/14/2022, Cpl. Peckham responded to Exit 47 on I-95 in Portland for a vehicle that had crashed at MM 57, left the scene, and stopped on the 47 departure ramp. Tyler Dumas (25) of Kennebunk was arrested and charged with OUI Alcohol.

    On 08/14/2022, Tr. Ellis stopped Joshua Saili (25) of Portland for criminal speeding 108/70 on the ME turnpike northbound in Saco. He was summonsed for the speed.

    On 08/14/2022, Tr. Ellis stopped Ronny Mella Almonte (22) of Massachusetts for speeding on the ME turnpike northbound in Saco. He was found to have a suspended license. He was charged with operating without a license. The vehicle was towed.

    On 08/14/2022, Tr. Ellis responded to a motor vehicle crash on the ME turnpike southbound in Saco. One of the vehicle passengers, Benjamin Pomeroy (24) of Livermore Falls, was found to have a warrant. He was arrested and transported to Cumberland County Jail.

    On 08/09/2022, Cpl. Physic was the keynote speaker at the Lewiston High School’s August graduation.

     

  • Maine State Police Investigating Domestic Violence Assault

    On Monday, August 15, 2022, a report was made to the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office about ongoing domestic violence incidents occurring at a home in West Gardiner. The individual informed the sheriff’s office that 29-year-old Daniel Ross, a Kennebec County Sheriff’s Deputy had been assaulting his wife at their home while off-duty.  Kennebec County Sheriff’s Deputies spoke with Ross’s wife and as a result of that conversation contacted the Maine State Police. As a result of their investigation State Police Troopers arrested Deputy Ross Monday at 10:30 pm while he was on duty. He was transported to the Somerset County Jail where he remains. Ross has been charged with three counts of Domestic Violence Assault, three counts of Domestic Violence Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon, Unlawful Sexual Contact, Domestic Violence Terrorizing with a Dangerous Weapon and Aggravated Assault. Ross, who started working at the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office on March 16, 2021 is on administrative leave with pay.  

    Daniel Ross was in Kennebec County Court for his first appearance on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at 1:00 pm.   Please contact the court for documents and the Somerset County jail for a booking photo.

    The Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office has issued a Silver Alert for 77-year old Bruce Karch of Oakfield. Mr. Karch was last seen Saturday, August 20, 2022 at approximately 5:00 pm leaving his home on Nelson Road in Oakland. Mr. Karch, who suffers from mental health issues is driving a silver 2014 Toyota Tacoma Pickup, Maine Registration Plate 3935VG. Mr. Karch is a white male, 5’08”, 155 lbs. with gray hair and blue eyes.  
    Anyone who sees Bruce Karch or has any information should call the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office at 207-532.3471.

    Sergeant Jeff Ingemi arrested Bobbi-Sue Kierstead (38) of Calais, for having an active warrant for her arrest after a traffic stop in Baring.  Kierstead was also summonsed for Violation of Conditions of Release for possessing alcohol.

    8-17-2022

    Corporal Owen Reed responded to a noise complaint in Deer Isle. Investigation revealed that no crimes had been committed and parties had already separated before the police arrived.

    Corporal Owen Reed responded to a single vehicle crash on the Caterpillar Hill Road in Sedgwick. It was determined that the driver Steven Morey (30) of Stonington had been fatigued and drifted left across the centerline. His vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a tree. No injuries were reported, and no charges were filed based on the investigation on scene.

    Trooper Jarid Leonard stopped a vehicle in Machias for passenger not being secured with a seatbelt. As a result of the stop, it was determined that the driver of the vehicle Aaron Richardson (29) of Machias did not hold a valid driver’s license. He was issued a summonsed for Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a Driver’s License.

    08-19-2022

    Corporal Owen Reed and Sergeant Gavin Endre responded to a two-vehicle crash on the North Deer Isle Road in Deer Isle. The investigation revealed that a vehicle operated by Juliet Lesser (68) of Deer Isle crossed the centerline and hit a vehicle operated by John Madura (52) of Sedgwick head on. Two passengers in Madura’s vehicle were injured in the crash.  All but one occupant of both vehicles was transported by ambulance to the hospital. Sedgwick, Deer Isle and Stonington Fire Departments, Peninsula Ambulance and Memorial Ambulance assisted on scene.

    Trooper Steven Mahon responded to a criminal mischief complaint in T16 MD BPP where construction equipment was tampered with.  Forestry assisted.  Investigation continues.

    Corporal Blaine Silk arrested Matthew Seavey (31) of Hancock for Violating Conditions of Release after being found intoxicated at his parent’s residence in Hancock.

    Corporal Jeffrey Taylor responded to a property damage complaint in Deblois where a Kubota blueberry harvester and a flatbed blueberry transport truck had been damaged over the night. The Kubota sustained significant damage to the windshield and cab body. The flatbed had a rock thrown through the windshield. Investigation continues.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Desrosier was conducting traffic enforcement in Grand Isle when he observed a vehicle committing an infraction.  Tr. Desrosier conducted a traffic stop and, after an investigation, found the driver has a revoked driver’s license, 11 sets of bail for driving offenses, and 8 active warrants for his arrest, all for driving offenses.  He was issued a criminal summons for OAR and for VCR.  The vehicle was towed from the roadway.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Desrosier responded to a single vehicle crash on Route 11, T14 R6 WELS.  The driver, who had just flown in from Florida, was driving to Fort Kent, fell asleep, and went off the roadway crashing into the ditch.  After an investigation, it was discovered the driver had a suspended Florida driver’s license.  The man was issued a criminal summons for operating without a license and got a ride to Fort Kent with the wrecker.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Castonguay was conducting traffic enforcement in New Limerick when he stopped a vehicle for a traffic infraction.  After an investigation, it was discovered the driver has a suspended driver’s license and a warrant for his arrest.  The man was arrested on the warrant and brought to the Barracks where he was able to post bail.  The man was issued a criminal summons for OAS and the vehicle was towed from the roadway.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Barnard and other members of the Maine State Police Bomb Team were asked to assist with a B-52 Plane that landed at Loring Air Force Base for a public viewing. The plane can be started by exploding canisters. The Bomb team was asked to be on site in case if anything happened with the exploding canisters.

    Brief Synopsis:       On July 3rd, Tr. Martin investigated a complaint of a burglary in Woodland.  As a result of the investigation, Tr. Martin obtained an arrest warrant for a Woodland man on the charges of burglary, aggravated criminal mischief, theft, terrorizing, and violation of conditional release.  The offender is currently being held on a probation hold and was arrested on the warrant at the Aroostook County Jail by Tr. Cotton.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Roy responded to a theft at the Grand Isle Snowmobile Club. It appears someone entered the snowmobile club sometime during the night and stole a chainsaw as well as various clothing.  The total value is approximately $800.  The investigation is ongoing.
