Trooper Andy Foss conducted a well-being check in Cooper.  Everyone was found to be okay at this time.

07-21-20

Trooper Kim Sawyer arrested Bruce Smith (65) of Lincoln for Operating Under the Influence - Drugs after he was found unconscious in his truck and Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were performed.  A Drug Recognition Evaluation was completed.  It was determined that he was under the influence of narcotics and he was transported to the Washington County Jail.  Warden Tyler Leach assisted.

07-23-20

Trooper Caleb McGary summonsed a juvenile from Charleston, for Criminal Speed and Driving to Endanger after a traffic stop in Dedham.  98 in a 55 zone.

07-24-20

Trooper Caleb McGary responded to a crash in Dedham where the operator, Georgie Connell (21) of Hancock, was arrested for Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol and Violation of Conditional Release. 

Trooper Dana Austin responded to Sullivan for a report of an intoxicated driver. Trooper Austin and Marine Patrol Office Tim Cormier located the intoxicated driver on a tote road. The male was uncooperative and subsequently taken into custody. The male, Ricky Skillings (42) of Sullivan, was arrested for Operating under the Influence, Operating After Habitual Offender Revocation, Unlawful Possession of Schedule Drugs, and Refusing to submit to arrest. Trooper Austin and Officer Cormier were assisted by Sergeant Tim Varney and the Maine Warden Service.

Trooper Blaine Silk responded to a theft complaint at a business in Orland. As a result of the investigation an employee of the business Catherine O’Donnell (31) of Orland was charged with Theft.

Trooper Caleb McGary summonsed Tyler Harmon (31) of Dedham, for Driving to Endanger after a traffic stop in Dedham.

Sergeant Jeff Ingemi summonsed Darin Botting (34) of Chelsea, for Operating after Suspension after a traffic stop in Mattawamkeag.  Trooper Rob Flynn assisted.

Trooper Caleb McGary responded to a criminal mischief complaint in Mariaville where a garage window was damaged.  Investigation continues.

Trooper Caleb McGary responded to a theft in Hancock where it was reported that campaign signs had been stolen.  Investigation continues.

Trooper Owen Reed summonsed Ayla Allen (26) of Deer Isle, for Operating After Suspension after a traffic stop in Sedgwick.

Trooper Owen Reed responded to a trespassing complaint in Blue Hill.

Trooper Owen Reed responded to a criminal mischief complaint in Deer Isle where graffiti was painted on the roadway.  Investigation continues.

Marshfield Investigation

Alfred "AJ" Polk, 20, of Machiasport

On June 24, at 3:30 a.m., multiple Troopers and Deputies were dispatched to Maine State Police Sergeant Jeff Ingemi’s residence in Marshfield.  Sergeant Ingemi’s wife was awakened in the middle of the night by what sounded to be several gunshots.  Sergeant Ingemi went outside to find the window of his personal truck shattered.

On July 16, arrest warrants were obtained for Alfred “AJ”  Polk (20)  and Dylan Nevala (21), both of Machiasport.  Search warrants were obtained for their respective properties as well.  At 3 a.m., July 17, 2020,   the Maine State Police Tactical Team executed the arrest warrants.  Polk and Nevala are now in custody.  They have been interviewed and transported to jail.  The search of the residences is ongoing at this time.  A vehicle believed to be involved in the incident has been impounded.

 Polk is being charged with Reckless Conduct with a Dangerous Weapon and Nevala is charged with Hindering Apprehension/ Prosecution.

Today’s outcome is the result of an intense, three week, multi-agency effort.  The State Police was assisted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, Maine Forestry Service, Maine Warden Service, Maine Marine Patrol, and the Maine Department of Motor Vehicles Investigative Division.

Trooper Dana Austin stopped a motor vehicle for a traffic violation in Amherst, as a result of the investigation, James Day (26) of Otis was summonsed for Operating after Suspension.

Corporal Micah Perkins responded to a late report burglary complaint in Princeton where it was reported that money was stolen from an apartment.  Investigation continues.

07-09-20

Trooper Owen Reed arrested John Kelly (56) of Machias and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol after a traffic stop in Machias.  Kelly refused the breath test.

Trooper Owen Reed arrested Justin Dexter (33) of Castine, for Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol after responding to a crash in Penobscot. 

Body Found on Robbinston Beach 

UPDATE (July 9, 2020, 7:17 a.m.): The deceased has been identified as Richard Warnell, 64, of St. Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada.  Warnell was the subject of a missing persons investigation being conducted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).  The Maine State Police is continuing to work with the RCMP regarding the investigation.  As there is no indication that Mr. Warnell died in the State of Maine, the RCMP will now become the lead agency in the investigation and further questions should be directed to them.  

ROBBINSTON, Maine – Maine State Police responded to a deceased person that had washed up on a beach in Robbinston. 

On July 7, 2020, A concerned party called the Bangor Regional Communication Center (RCC) and Cpl. Micah Perkins responded to the scene at approximately 2:23 p.m. An autopsy is being conducting by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) to determine the identity of the deceased, along with the cause and manner of death. Because there are no known missing persons from the Robbinston area, Troopers are cooperating with the Canadian authorities regarding the investigation.

Troopers were assisted on scene by the Maine Marine Patrol, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Robbinston Fire, Calais Fire EMS, and the U.S. Border Patrol. 

The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.

Sergeant Tim Varney summonsed Brandon Tibbetts (25) of Columbia for Operating After Suspension after stopping him for speeding on Rt 9 in Aurora.

06-29-20

Trooper Dana Austin responded to a business in Otis for a theft complaint, as a result of the investigation, Douglas Bryant (60) of Portland was summonsed for Theft. Deputy Travis Frost of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office assisted.

Trooper Dana Austin responded Waltham for a personal injury accident, as a result of the investigation, Harvey Springer (24) of Ellsworth was summonsed for Operating Under the Influence.

Trooper Dana Austin stopped a motor vehicle for a traffic violation on Route 1 in Hancock, as a result of the investigation, Fred Johnson (45) of Hancock was summonsed for Operating after Suspension.

Trooper Caleb McGary summonsed Christopher Sullivan (37) of Orland, for Criminal Speed and Violation of Conditional Release after a traffic stop in Dedham.  102mph in a 55mph zone.

Trooper Andy Foss arrested Neval Adams (44) of Tennessee, for Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol after a traffic stop in Aurora.  Adams was transported to a local hospital for medical issues and blood test results are pending.

Trooper Jeffrey Taylor summonsed Luke Smith (35) of Jonesport for Operating After Suspension as result of a traffic stop for a vehicle defect in Jonesport.

Trooper Dana Austin stopped a motor vehicle for a traffic violation on Route 1A in Dedham, as a result of the investigation, Benjamin Arsenault (28) of Corinna was summonsed for Exceeding the posted speed limit by 30 miles per hour or more. Benjamin was travelling 90 miles per hour in a posted 55 mile an hour zone.

Trooper Jeffrey Taylor arrested Shannon R Bebout (45) of Blue Hill for Operating Under the Influence in Sullivan. Shannon refused the test.

Trooper Dana Austin stopped a motor vehicle for a traffic violation in Ellsworth, as a result of the investigation, Amanda O’Rourke (38) of Ellsworth was arrested for Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol. 

Trooper Miles Carpenter arrested Douglas Roman (34) of Robbinston for Operating Under the Influence in Calais.

Trooper Gavin Endre, Sergeant Jason Sattler and Trooper Dana Austin responded to Hancock, for the report of a man allegedly threatening to burn a building down.  After an investigation, Derek Martin (40) of Hancock was arrested for Disorderly Conduct and transported to the Hancock County Jail.

Trooper Dana Austin stopped a motor vehicle for a traffic violation in Ellsworth, as a result of the investigation, Sara Knapp (36) of Indian Island was summonsed for Attaching False Plates. A passenger in the vehicle Jacob Britton (19) of Ellsworth was summonsed for Violation of Conditional Release. Sergeant Jason Sattler assisted.

Trooper Kim Sawyer summonsed Joel T. Hayward (52) of Baileyville for Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle after a traffic stop for improper passing and speed in Crawford (the vehicle’s registration had expired 2/28/2019).

Trooper Travis Chapman stopped a vehicle in reference to an investigation into a possible burglary. As a result of the stop the operator, Sarah Double (30) of Union was summonsed for Possession of Heroin and Operating after Suspension.

Trooper Jeffrey Taylor arrested Tristan Robinson (22) of Steuben for Operating Under the Influence as the result of a traffic stop in Cherryfield for speeding. Torre Newenham (25) of Gouldsboro was also summonsed for Assault as the result of a separate altercation during the stop.

Sergeant Tim Varney summonsed Patrick Beal (39) of Addison for Operating After Suspension as the result of a traffic stop on the Wilson District Road in Harrington.

 Trooper Dana Austin responded to the Penobscot River in Verona Island for a report of a body that was floating in the water. Trooper Austin arrived on scene and conducted his investigation. It appears the body had been in the water for an extended period of time. Trooper Austin is working with the Office of Chief Medical Examiner to attempt to figure out the identity of the deceased. Trooper Austin was assisted by Corporal Christopher Smith, the Maine Marine Patrol, the Bucksport Police Department, the Bucksport Fire Department, and the Bangor Police Department.

06-25-20

Trooper Caleb McGary responded to a theft complaint in Otis where gas was not paid for at a local gas station.  Investigation continues.

06-27-20

 Trooper Miles Carpenter responded to Perry for a crash that occurred on Route 1.  The investigation revealed that Larry Bowen (37) of Perry had crossed the center line and struck the side of an oncoming vehicle.  Larry did not stop and continued south on Route 1.  Shortly after the crash, Pleasant Point Officer Matt Cummings observed the vehicle, operated by Larry, over the center line and stopped the vehicle.  Following the investigation, Larry was arrested for Operating Under the Influence - Drugs, Operating After Suspension, Attaching False Plates and Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident.  Pleasant Point Police Department and Washington County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the investigation.

06-16-20

A serious motor vehicle crash occurred on Rt 3 in Trenton at the head of the Island.  A 2005 Harley Davidson being driven by Bruce Gott (61) of Lamoine was heading north on Rt 3 at the intersection of Rt 102.  A 2012 Ford explorer being driven by Emily Maehrlein (40) of Cold Spring, New York was heading south.  Gott crossed the center line and struck the explorer nearly head on.  Gott sustained serious injuries and was transported to MDI Hospital and then life flighted to EMMC where he is in critical condition.  He was not wearing a helmet.  Maehrlein was not injured in the crash.  The crash remains under investigation.  Trooper Blaine Silk is the primary investigator and was assisted by several Troopers and officers from Bar Harbor Police Department.  Bar Harbor and Trenton Fire Departments also assisted.

Trooper Caleb McGary summonsed Holly McGregor (42) of Connecticut, for Operating after Suspension after a traffic stop in Ellsworth.

06-19-20

Trooper Travis Chapman responded to Lamoine where it was reported that someone had shot the window of a residence. The window was broken but there was no bullet or other evidence found on scene. The investigation is ongoing.

Trooper Kim Sawyer received a report that someone had entered a garage in Crawford.   The suspects were gone upon arrival.  On June 4, 2020 the suspects were identified as Micheal Grimanis (21) of Baileyville and a juvenile of Chester.  Micheal was summonsed for Burglary and Theft and the juvenile was summonsed for the Juvenile crimes of Burglary and Theft.

Trooper Keith York responded to a crash in Trescott where it was reported that a vehicle was spinning its tires in the roadway and caught on fire.  The operator, Nicholas Hatt (23) of Lubec, was arrested for Operating Under the Influence of Drugs.  Baileyville Police Department assisted as a Drug Recognition Expert.
