1-2  |  CARIBOU  |  Erin Sperrey, 20, beaten to death at Tim Horton’s in Caribou where she worked. A co-worker, Christopher Shumway, 19, is charged with murder.

1-3  |  PORTLAND  |  Maxine Witham, 35, beaten to death inside a Portland hotel room. Her longtime boyfriend, David Haraden, 48, is charged with murder. DOMESTIC

1-28  |  ROCKLAND  |  Allison Small, 30, shot to death at her Rockland business. Charged with murder is Douglas Dyer, 31, who works for her and with whom she had been having a longtime affair. DOMESTIC

2-13  |  WEST PARIS  |  Kevin Behan, 56, and James Behan, 29, (father and son) both stabbed to death inside their home. Each stabbed each other. DOUBLE HOMICIDE. DOUBLE DOMESTIC

4-1  |  WESTBROOK  |  Lavinia Gelineau, 25, strangled to death by her father, Nicolae Onitiu, 51, who hanged himself. MURDER-SUICIDE-DOMESTIC

6-21  |  WESTPORT  |  Hazel Templeman, 98, shot and killed by her 86 year old husband, Ronald Templeman, who shots and killed himself. MURDER-SUICIDE-DOMESTIC

6-27  |  PORTLAND  |  Jose Morales, 47, stabbed to death at his apartment. His roommate, Victoriano Dubon, 38, charged with murder.

7-3  |  WESTBROOK  |  Douglas Wilcox, 33, dies four days after being beaten on a sidewalk. Three young men are indicted on manslaughter charges in early August – Wade DePalma, 19, Westbrook, Nicholas LaVigne, 19, Westbrook and Alexander Layug, 18, Portland.

8-7  |  BINGHAM  |  Blaine Beane, 48, is beaten outside a bar. Dusty Pinkham, 19, is charged with manslaughter.

8-15  |  SABATTUS  |  Melissa Mendoza, 29, shot and killed at the home of her former boyfriend Daniel Roberts who is indicted for murder on 12/8. DOMESTIC

9-3  |  YARMOUTH  |  Lee Nason, 40 is shot and killed by her husband, Robert Nason, 58, who shots and kills himself. MURDER-SUICIDE DOMESTIC

10-15  |  YORK  |  Dung Ngo, 32, of Dorchester, MA found shot to death along Maine Turnpike, He was last seen in early September. In January of ’06, three men were arrested and charged with murder—Huy Van Nguyen, 33; Nhan Truong, 37 & Son Nguyen, 37.

10-29  |  LEWISTON  |  James Vining, 43, and John Graffam, 30 were beaten to death and found in shallow graves along railroad tracks. In January of 2006, Gary Gauthier, 25, and Tommy Dyer, 20, were charged with murder
 
11-24  |  PORTLAND  |  Michael Davis, 51, shot to death at his mother’s home. His brother, 53 year old Edmund Davis is charged with murder. DOMESTIC

11-26  |  MONSON  |  Mary Sandberg, 78, shot and killed by her husband, John Sandberg, 80, who shots and kills himself. MURDER SUICIDE – DOMESTIC

11-26  |  FAYETTE  |  Marlee Johnston, 14, killed near her home. 14 year old Patrick Armstrong is charged with murder.

12-9  |  HOULTON  |  Jacqueline Shorey, 57, killed in her motel room. 30 year old Daniel Boles is charged with murder.

SUMMARY

Of the 19 homicides –10 were domestic = 52%. The domestic victims were 3 wives, 3 girlfriends, a daughter, a son, a father and a brother. Included in these were 4 murder- suicides and a double homicide involving a father and son in West Paris.

This is the sixth year in a row that Maine homicides have been under 20. There were 19 homicides in 2004; 17 in ’03; 14 in ’02; 19 in ’01 and 11 in 2000. The historic average in Maine is 24 homicides a year. ##
