Explore the nighttime and get to know the night sky with local Maine astronomer James Shields. He will use a laser to show you the constellations and share the stories behind them. He will also describe how the stars were used for directions and to decide the best time for activities. In addition, he will show you how to use the park telescope and other equipment to find objects in the night sky. Program lasts about an hour, but James will likely stay longer for those that are interested in additional viewing. Join us, as the top of Bradbury Mountain offers incredible views of the Southern Maine Sky. All ages welcome, children must be accompanied by an adult. Meet at the start of the Northern Loop Trail* Park staff will guide participants up the trail-a wide 1-mile trail that provides a gradual ascent to the summit. Bring, if you have them: binoculars, flashlight with red-covered lens. Dress for the weather; wear sturdy footwear. *Weather Notice: May be cancelled due to continuous precipitation, or lightening in the area.
