Enjoy the first morning of the new year on a 1.6 mile hike through a 150-year old mixed hardwood forest that transitions into a beautiful mature hemlock forest, starting from the boat launch for this self-guided hike. The easy meandering trail leads you to a breathtaking half mile segment on the shores of Sebago Lake at the mouth of the Songo River. Participants may see white-tailed deer, waterfowl, pileated woodpecker and barred owls. If winter conditions prevail, the Maine State Parks Ski and Snowshoe Trailer will be onsite to offer free use of winter recreation equipment for the hike. For the young, and the young at heart, a 0.3 mile alternative hike with views of Sebago Lake and the Songo River is available. Day use admission to the park is free for participants of the First Day Hike program. Questions regarding the First Day Hike at Sebago Lake State Park may be directed to the park at (207) 693-6231.
