Woodland Crash

WoodlandOn Jan. 27 around 10:14 a.m., Maine State Troopers responded to a crash in Woodland. 

Ashley Brydon, 32, of Woodland, was traveling North On Route 161 in Woodland with her 1-year-old son.  Brydon’s vehicle drove into slush in the middle of the road and it caused her to lose control.  Brydon’s vehicle crashed into a snowbank off of the southbound lane.  The vehicle drove in the snow for approximately 10 feet when it hit a frozen section of the snowbank.  When it hit the frozen section of the snow bank, the vehicle rolled over on to the vehicle’s passenger side.  Brydon and her son were able to exit the vehicle with the help of First Responders.

Caribou Fire and Ambulance were called to the scene and transported Brydon and her son to Cary Medical Center.  Brydon and her son were examined and released with minor injuries.

Maine Game Warden Ryan Fitzpatrick assisted at the scene.  The vehicle was towed from the scene by Bealieu’s Garage.
 

Macwahoc Plantation Crash

KenyonA Weston woman and her passenger suffered minor injuries after the vehicle they were in went off the road and flipped end-over-end earlier today.

On Jan. 16, 2020, around 12 noon, Joan Kenyon, 81, of Weston, Maine was driving her 2004 GMC Tahoe northbound on Route 2A in Macwahoc Plantation. Kenyon’s vehicle caught some slush on the side of the roadway pulling the vehicle into the ditch. Kenyon’s vehicle then struck a rock in the ditch causing the vehicle to flip end over end. Kenyon and her passenger were both wearing their seat belts and only suffered minor, non-life threatening injuries.

Tractor Trailer and Plow Truck Crash

Crash Maine State Police are investigating a crash involving a tractor trailer hauling natural gas and a plow truck.

On Jan. 13, 2020, around 9:35 p.m., Thor Cote was driving north in a Maine Department of Transportation (MDOT) plow truck, plowing in the left lane, on Interstate 95, Island Falls.  William Curvin was also driving north in a tractor trailer unit hauling compressed natural gas.  William thought the plow truck was in the middle of the roadway, went to pass on the left, and struck the wing of the plow truck.  William lost control of the tractor trailer and went off the left side of the roadway into the median.  The truck tipped onto its left side and came to rest against some rocks.  No one was injured in this crash.

Crash 2The tractor trailer suffered major damage to the tractor.  No hazardous material was released during the crash.

The MDOT plow truck sustained heavy damage to the plow wing and its components.  Thor was able to drive it from the scene to a highway crossover.

Crews will work to remove the rig from the median during daylight hours.

The tractor trailer was scheduled to deliver the natural gas to a local startch factory.  The truck and trailer are owned by Keenan Advantage Group, Clearmont, Indiana.

The crash is still under investigation by Sergeant Jeffrey Clark.
 

Island Falls Tractor Trailer Wreck

island Falls 1A tractor trailer truck travelling south on Interstate 95 lost control and slammed into a bridge support, cutting the trailer in half.

On Jan. 4, 2020, at approximately 7:50 p.m., Houlton Regional Communications Center received a call advising them that there was a tractor trailer leaning against a guard rail in the area of mile marker 276 South bound (Island Falls). Trooper Cotton arrived on scene and observed a white Tractor Trailer Unit wrapped around the Rt. 159 concrete bridge support. Trooper Cotton determined that the tractor trailer had lost control due to the poor weather and road conditions, slid into and broke approximately 100 yards of guard rail, before sliding into the median and into the bridge support. The impact from the bridge support broke the trailer in half. The driver suffered minor injuries.

A DOT bridge inspector was called to the scene. Westerdahls towing will be removing the truck when the weather improves.

Ice Crashes Through Windshield on Interstate

Ice DamageA driver was cited after a chunk of ice flew off their vehicle and through the windshield of a car that was attempting to pass it on Interstate 95.

On Nov. 16, 2019, Kristin Harmon was driving south on Interstate 95, Houlton.  She moved into the left lane to pass a slower moving vehicle driven by Rose Rodriguez.  As Kristin was passing, a large chunk of ice came off the top of Rose’s vehicle and went through Kristin’s windshield.  Kristin was able to flag down Rose and both pulled to the right side of the Interstate.

Rose was issued a traffic summons for unsecure load on her vehicle.  Kristin’s vehicle was towed from the Interstate by York’s of Houlton Towing.  No one was injured during this incident.

Eagle Lake Burglary

Web 3Maine State Police in Troop F are looking for the public’s assistance in identifying two individuals who burglarized a business in Eagle Lake. 

Around 5:30 pm on Wednesday November 15th, two individuals burglarized the Eagle Lake Marijuana Caregiver Facility. A large amount of cash and electronics were stolen.

Blaine Crash

Blaine CrashMaine State Police responded to a two vehicle crash in Blaine, early this morning.

On Nov. 11, 2019,  at approximately 6:11 a.m., the Houlton RCC received a report of a two vehicle crash on the Robinson Road in Blaine with one person injured.  Tr. Nick Casavant and Sgt. Josh Haines responded and determined the following from their investigation:  Lisa Rodqiguez, 51, Bridgewater, of was traveling North in her 2003 GMC sport utility vehicle when she lost control on the ice covered roadway and spun sideways into the path of oncoming traffic.  Dana Raymond, 57, of Easton, was traveling South in his 2018 Ford truck and was unable to avoid Rodriguez’s vehicle, which was sideways in his lane, striking her head on.  Rodriguez suffered an injury to the leg and was transported from the scene by Crown Ambulance to the hospital in Presque Isle.  

Both vehicles were towed from the scene with significant damage.

Brief Synopsis:       Cpl. Quint responded to the Houlton Port of Entry for a Canadian citizen with a Maine warrant.  The man was stopped in Clinton by a Trooper from Troop K, issued a criminal summons, and then failed to appear in court.  The man was taken to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton until he could arrange to post bail.

Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Desrosier was conducting traffic enforcement in Grand Isle.  He observed a man driving that he knew was suspended.  Tr. Desrosier conducted a traffic stop and issued the man a criminal summons for OAS.  The man’s passenger had a valid license and was able to drive the vehicle.

Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Kilcollins was conducting traffic enforcement in Monticello.  He stopped a vehicle for speeding and discovered it had not been registered in over a year.  The vehicle was licensed out of Ohio.  Tr. Kilcollins issued the owner of the vehicle a criminal summons for operating an unregistered vehicle.

Brief Synopsis:       Follow up with suspicious incident from previous week in Linneus. -Tr. Cotton was able to locate the suspect involved in a suspicious incident in Linneus. After an interview with the suspect, Tr. Cotton summonsed the male for Burglary to a motor vehicle and Criminal Mischief.

Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Cotton became aware of a male subject who had a warrant for failing to pay fines, that lived in Island Falls. After a brief investigation, Tr. Cotton was able to locate the male and placed him under arrest. Tr. Cotton transported the male to the Aroostook County Jail.

Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Levesque received a call in Woodland stating that there was a male off the road and he was possibly intoxicated.  Tr. Levesque arrived and the male was already gone.  He looked in the area but did not meet or locate the vehicle.  A short time later someone called in another crash in the town of Perham and it was believed to be the same driver.  Tr. Levesque arrived and spoke to the male who admitted to causing the other crash and being intoxicated.  The male performed field sobriety test and was arrested for Operating Under the Influence and Failure to Report Accident by Quickest Means.

Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Levesque was called to Mars Hill for a theft from a grocery store.  Tr. Levesque arrived and was shown security footage of a female walking around the store and putting a large amount of food in her bag.  The female left in a vehicle and Tr. Levesque was given the description and registration number.  Tr. Levesque located the vehicle parked on a field road, unoccupied and observed stolen items in it.  Tr. Levesque had the vehicle towed and impounded until he can speak to the registered owner

Brief Synopsis:         Tr. Curtin represented the State Police at a job fair held at the Houlton Armory.  He spoke with students from Houlton, East Grand, and Southern Aroostook Schools.  The job fair consisted of representatives from many public and private sector employers.

Brief Synopsis:        Tr. Casavant arrested and Oakfield man on a warrant out of Lewiston District Court.  The man was wanted on several drug charges from Auburn PD.  The man posted bail from the barracks in Houlton and was released.

Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Saucier received a theft complaint from a business in Island Falls.  A subject had been seen shoplifting in the establishment.  Tr. Saucer located the individual and charged the local man with theft.

Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Saucier was asked to assist the Houlton Police Department with a Drug Evaluation on a suspected drugged driver.  The evaluation was conducted by Tr. Saucier and the subject was found to be under the influence of drugs.

CASTLE HILL MURDER INDICTMENTS

The Aroostook County Grand Jury has handed down indictments against 38 year old Bobby Nightingale of Presque Isle, charging him with two counts of murder in connection with the shooting deaths of two men in Castle Hill in August . Nightingale has been in Aroostook County Jail on an unrelated  weapons charge since a week after the deaths.  He is expected to be arraigned on the new charges sometime next week in Aroostook Superior Court.  
 
The indictments against Nightingale stem from three separate incidents.  Below is a summary of the charges for each incident. 

For the deaths of 25 year old Allen Curtis and 51 year old Roger Ellis on August 13 on Route 227 in Castle Hill:

  • 2 Counts: Intentional and Knowing Murder 
  • 1 Count: Possession of Firearm by a Prohibited Person (Class C)

The following charges were issued as a result of an incident in Presque Isle on August 5: 

  • 1 Count: Burglary (Class A)
  • 1 Count: Robbery (Class A)
  • 1 Count: Possession of Firearm by a Prohibited Person (Class C)

The following charges resulted from an incident on August 10 at the residence located at 1961 State Road in Castle Hill.  

  • 1 Count: Criminal Threatening with a Dangerous Weapon (Class C)
  • 1 Count: Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person (Class C)

The deaths of Curtis and Ellis were investigated by the Aroostook County Sheriff's Department, the Maine Warden Service, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, the Maine Forest Service and the Presque Isle Police Department, along with State Police .
