From the desk of Shannon Moss, DPS PIO
On Sunday, May 23, 2021, human skeletal remains were discovered in a small wooded area off Rt. 161 in Caribou. A local man was walking in the woods when he found the remains. A team of Maine State Police members from Major Crimes unit, Evidence Response Team, K9 Cadaver dogs along with the Maine Warden Service, Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME), and Caribou PD are working in the area today to recover the remains. Once the remains are recovered they will be transported to the OCME to be examined to determine identification and cause and manner of death.
On June 2, 2019, 31-year-old Kurtis Madore went missing in the Caribou area. Maine State Police are not speculating that the remains are Madore. They will wait for the OCME exam to determine identification.
