MSP Arrests Hermon Man in Connection to Computer Crimes Investigation

On May 23, 2025, at approximately 9:00 AM, the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit arrested 42-year-old Aaron Pinette of Hermon in connection to an ongoing investigation. He was taken into custody at his residence in Hermon and transported to the Penobscot County Jail.

 

Pinette has been charged with Possession of Sexually Explicit Materials.  This remains an active investigation, and no additional information is available at this time.

 

MSP Investigating Death of 4-Year-Old in Lewiston

On May 17, 2025, at approximately 4:55 A.M., the Lewiston Police Department received a 911 call for a four-year-old with a gunshot wound to the head at 93 Pierce Street apartment number two. Lewiston Police Department, Lewiston Fire Department, and United Ambulance Service responded.

 

The four-year-old was transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where the child was pronounced deceased at 7:08 A.M. The child was transported to the Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy. The Lewiston Police Department requested the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South respond to assist with the investigation.

 

The Department of Health and Human Services was notified, per protocol, when there is a death of a child in a household. The cause and manner of death are pending. The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South, Lewiston Police Department, and DHHS are still investigating this case.

 

More details will be released as they become available.

 

MSP Investigating Crash That Seriously Injured Two People on I-395 in Bangor

On Friday, May 16, 2025, at approximately 8:45 PM, Troopers from Troop I responded to a serious single vehicle crash on I-395 at mile marker 1 in Bangor. The preliminary investigation indicates that 23-year-old Devon Ireland of Bangor, was driving a 1992 Mazda Miata westbound when he failed to negotiate a turn and lost control of the vehicle. The car went over the guardrail and came to rest upside down across both eastbound lanes of travel.

 

The passenger, 23-year-old Lauren McCann of Bangor, who does not appear to have been wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained life-threatening injuries. Ireland also suffered significant injuries in the crash. Speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors.

 

Both occupants were transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center for treatment. Troop I was assisted at the scene by members of the Northern Field Troop. The vehicle was removed by Union Street Towing.

 

The crash remains under investigation.

 

MSP Investigating Shooting in Sabattus

The Maine State Police is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at approximately 4:14 PM in the 800 block of Middle Road (Route 9) in Sabattus.

 

The investigation has revealed that 29-year-old James Davis III of Sabattus was a passenger in a vehicle driven by his mother, 47-year-old Christine Smith of Sabattus. While traveling on King Road at the intersection of Middle Road (Route 9) Davis shot his mother. She was pronounced deceased on scene.

 

The vehicle traveled across Middle Road before coming to a stop, at which point Davis exited the car and began shooting at passing vehicles. 53-year-old Katherine Williams of Sabattus was traveling on Middle Road at the time of the incident when she was struck by gunfire. She was transported to Central Maine Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased.

 

Two other drivers, 19-year-old Tyson Turner of Jay and 35-year-old David Wilson of Hartford, were also shot. They were traveling in separate cars and were the sole occupants in their vehicles. Both men were transported to Central Maine Medical Center and are expected to survive. Davis then shot and killed himself.

 

The three deceased individuals were transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where autopsies will be performed. Detectives and Evidence Response Technicians with Major Crimes Unit South remained on scene throughout the night, processing evidence and conducting witness interviews.

 

The Lisbon Police Department, Sabattus Police Department and the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office assisted on scene. This remains an active investigation. No further information is available at this time.

Guilford Man Arrested for Possession of Sexually Explicit Material

Mason Mickie, 23, of Guilford was arrested and charged with one count of Possession of Sexually Explicit Material in reference to an on-going investigation by the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit. The case has been referred to the Piscataquis County District Attorney’s Office.

Pittsfield Crash Update

At 4:05 PM, troopers responded to a multiple vehicle crash northbound on Interstate 95 in Pittsfield. A tractor trailer truck, operated by Serhii Milchecko, 47, of Nova Scotia was traveling in the travel lane and was rear-ended by a Kia sedan, operated by 17-year-old from Winslow. A Chevrolet Malibu, operated by 35-year-old Desiree Chenette, of Lincoln then struck the rear of the Kia. Both sedans sustained significant damage.

 

Both the juvenile and Chenette were treated by EMS and released at the scene. State Police remind all motorist to drive distraction-free and maintain a safe following distance between your vehicle and others to ensure a safer road for everyone.

Tractor Trailer Rollover at the Falmouth Spur

At approximately 1:55 PM, troopers responded to a tractor trailer roll-over on I-495 westbound, (Falmouth spur) at the merge with the exit 11 off-ramp from I0295. The preliminary investigation showed that the driver, Mohammed Mohammed Abdallah, 25, of Nebraska, lost control of the truck as he exited exit 11 on I-295 merging onto the spur. The truck struck a guardrail to the left and rolled over onto its side blocking both travel lanes. The driver was transported by Falmouth Rescue to Maine Medical Center in Portland with non-life-threatening injuries.

 

All westbound access points to the Falmouth Spur were blocked off to avoid a traffic backup. The truck was hauling approximately 45,000 pounds of paper products.

 

Troop I Troopers investigating the crash were assisted by Troop G (turnpike), the MSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit, DOT, DEP, Falmouth Fire & Rescue, and Copp Motors.

 

As of 4:40, the roadway is still blocked as Copp Motors works to clear it. The driver of the truck has been issued 2 summonses for violations from the Commercial Vehicle Unit.

South Berwick Shooting Update

On March 22nd, at approximately 8:44 P.M., the South Berwick Police Department received a 911 call reporting a domestic dispute with shots fired at 48 Brattle Street. Jeremiah Godfrey, 43 years old, called 911 and reported that he had an argument with his girlfriend, Sherri Sweet, 37 years old. Godfrey described a struggle over the gun, and Sweet sustained a gunshot wound and was unresponsive. First responders arrived on the scene and rendered aid. Sweet was transported to the Portsmouth Regional Hospital. The South Berwick Police Department requested the assistance of the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit-South. The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit -South responded and continued to investigate the circumstances, with the assistance of the South Berwick Police Department.

Sherri Sweet was pronounced deceased on March 23, 2025, at 10:15 P.M. The New Hampshire Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy on March 24, 2025, and advised the cause and manner of death. The immediate cause is a gunshot wound to the head, and the manner of death is homicide. 

 

On March 26, 2025, the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South applied for and obtained a warrant for murder. Jeremiah Godfrey was arrested at approximately 12:00 P.M. in the town of South Berwick and subsequently transported to the York County Jail. The Maine State Police would like to thank all of the first responders who assisted with the investigation, include, but not limited to, the South Berwick Police Department, the York Ambulance rescue personnel, the South Berwick Fire Department, the Elliot Police Department, the North Berwick Police Department, and the Berwick Police Department.

 

South Berwick Shooting Investigation

On March 22, 2025, at approximately 8:44 PM, State Police Major Crimes South responded to 48 Brattle Street in South Berwick to assist with a shooting investigation. The investigation is ongoing, and there is no danger to the public.

Lewiston Human Remains Identified

The Maine State Police, through DNA analysis at the State Police Crime Laboratory, have identified the remains found in the Garcelon Bog at the end of Russell Street in Lewiston on January 25, 2025, as Michael Roberts, 68, of Lewiston. Mr. Roberts was reported missing in November of 2019 to the Lewiston Police Department after wandering off from a Bartlett Street residence. State Police Major Crimes South assisted with the recovery of the human remains and identification. It's important to note that the death is not considered suspicious.
