Russell and K9 Gus were requested by the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office to respond to a residence in Poland after a residence reported seeing a male subject trying to break into a neighboring residence and then flee into the woods.  Upon arrival the SO advised that they had discovered a car in the driveway of the neighboring residence which was a home under foreclosure.  They thought the subject may have fled into the house after finding a door unsecured.  The K9 team did a building search of the residence but no one was located inside.  Cpl. Russell then cast Gus in the area where the neighbor had confronted the subject and Gus picked up a positive track heading into the woods and up the mountain behind the house.  After approximately a mile track the team arrived at a small campsite and the subject was located in a tent.  It was determined that the subject was the prior owner of the “foreclosed house” and was not supposed to be there however criminal charges were not issued.
