Troop B Weekly Report 03/08/21-03/14/21

Trooper:                              SGT. FARLEY Tr. lemieux

Brief Synopsis: Sgt. Farley and Tr. Lemieux were dispatched to the area of mile marker 24 on I-295 (North) for a vehicle smoking. Tr. Lemieux arrived on scene to see a vehicle in the shoulder fully engulfed in flames. I-295 (North) was shut down for approximately fifteen minutes while Freeport Fire Department extinguished the flames. No injuries were reported in the fire.

Trooper:                              Tr. lemieux

Brief Synopsis: At approximately 1222 hours, Tr. Lemieux stopped a motor vehicle on Portland Road in Gray for no inspection. He identified the driver as Jason Goan (35) of Falmouth. Goan noted his license was suspended for OUI. It was determined GOAN' license was in fact suspended and he had three sets of bail conditions. GOAN was cited appropriately.

Brief Synopsis: At approximately 1740 hours, Tr. Lemieux was posted in a cross over in Brunswick. He observed a vehicle traveling South on I-295 at a speed much greater than the posted speed limit of 65mph. Tr. Lemieux locked the speed of the vehicle at 97mph. Tr. Lemieux conducted a motor vehicle stop and identified the driver as Matthew Maldonado (18) of Brunswick. MALDONADO had a set of bail conditions listing he could be searched at any time without RAS. A search of the vehicle found a Glock handgun in the center console. Due to MALDONADO age, not being an active member of the armed forces, or possessed a license to carry. The firearm was seized as evidence. MALDONADO was issued a USAC for Carrying a Concealed weapon and VCR.

Trooper:                             CPL. HINK

Brief Synopsis:  Cpl. Hink stopped a vehicle on Rt. 35 in Windham for erratic operation.  Upon contacting the female operator, Cpl. Hink learned she was on bail conditions and her license was under suspension.  Cpl. Hink charged the operator with OAS and VCR.

Town:                                 Brunswick

Trooper:                             CPL. RUSSELL

Brief Synopsis:  On 3/12/21 Cpl. Russell was on routine patrol on I-295 traveling south bound at the Brunswick/Topsham town line when he observed an elderly male walking a dog on the shoulder of the highway.  The male was identified as a 79-year-old who had been reported missing 24 hours prior in Farmington.  He was also the subject of a silver alert activation.  He was transported to Mid-Coast Hospital and reunited with his family there.  Cpl. Russell later located his vehicle at MM32 NB abandoned, out of gas and with a dead battery.
