On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at approximately 3:32 PM, Troopers from the Maine State Police Northern Field Troop responded to the 32000 Road in Township 41 which is located in Northern Hancock County off the Stud Mill Road, for a report of an unattended death.

A male, later identified as 70-year-old David Bridges of Kennebunk, was found deceased in a bog just off the roadway. Bridges appeared to have been fur trapping in the area.

The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, but the death does not appear to be suspicious. The Maine Warden Service assisted with the investigation.

On Friday, October 24, 2025, at approximately 4:05 PM, a Major Crimes Central Detective was traveling northbound on I-95 in Augusta when the Detective observed a 2008 Toyota Tundra driving erratically and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The Tundra failed to stop despite the Detective activating the cruiser’s blue lights and siren. In the area of mile 119 northbound, the Tundra struck another vehicle, resulting in a crash involving four total vehicles, including the Tundra. The driver of the Tundra fled on foot but was apprehended shortly after by Troop I Troopers who responded to the scene.

A passenger of a 2024 Toyota RAV4 and the driver of a 2013 Buick Enclave were transported to Maine General Hospital in Augusta with non-life-threatening injuries. While on scene, it was learned that the Tundra had recently been stolen in Augusta. As a result, 34-year-old Karl McDougal-Orosco of Pittsfield, was transported to the Kennebec County Jail in Augusta. He faces charges of Eluding an Officer, Driving to Endanger, Reckless Conduct with a Dangerous Weapon, and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.

There were significant traffic delays as a result of the crash; however, no secondary crashes occurred. Sidney Fire & Rescue, Delta Ambulance, and Ready Road Towing assisted on scene.

On Thursday, October 23, 2025, at approximately 4:25 PM, Troopers from the Central Field Troop responded to 1580 Bailey Road in Knox for a report of a shooting. Troopers arrived on scene and determined the victim, 40-year-old Astin Elwell of Knox, had been shot and was driven to Waldo General Hospital in Belfast prior to Troopers arriving. Elwell was later transported to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with non-life-threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation indicates three males arrived at the residence in a gold/tan Jeep Cherokee. The males were wearing ski masks, and one of the males shot Elwell as she answered the door. The suspects then fled the scene. Troopers were able to locate a vehicle of interest behind a nearby residence which was seized for evidence processing. The three males have not been located at this time. There is no known risk to the public. This is believed to be an isolated incident.

The Maine State Police Evidence Response Team continued working through the evening to collect evidence. Assisting State Police were the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office, and local EMS/Fire departments. On Friday, October 17, 2025, at approximately 9:00 PM, a Trooper with Troop I initiated a traffic stop on Skyway Drive in Portland for a defective taillight. The driver and registered owner of the vehicle was identified as 29-year-old Abdullahi Ahmed Mohamud of South Portland.

During the course of the investigation, Troopers determined that Mohamud was currently on bail conditions prohibiting him from using or possessing dangerous weapons and restricting him from being out between the hours of 8:00 pm and 6:00 AM. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of two stolen handguns.

Mohamud was placed under arrest and charged with Violation of Conditions of Release and Receiving Stolen Property. He was transported to the Cumberland County Jail. This is an ongoing investigation. No additional information is available at this time.

Detectives with the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South arrested 40-year-old Jacob Hiscock of Livermore Falls early this morning, Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at his residence in Livermore Falls on charges of Sexual Abuse of a Minor and Possession of Sexually Explicit Material. The charges stem from a month-long investigation involving the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit, Sabattus Police Department, Oxford County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine Warden’s Service. Hiscock was transported to the Androscoggin County Jail. The Maine State Police is requesting the public’s help in identifying any individuals involved. On Thursday, October 16, 2025, at approximately 12:40 PM, Detectives with Major Crimes Unit South arrested 37-year-old Lynn Perkins of Standish at 715 River Road in Standish.

Perkins was charged with Murder in connection to the death of 49-year-old Matthew Hamilton. Hamilton was located deceased inside the River Road residence on Friday, October 3, 2025. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta determined the cause of death to be a gunshot wound and manner of death was ruled a homicide. Perkins and Hamilton had been in a relationship together.

Perkins was transported to the Cumberland County Jail where she will be held without bail. The investigation is ongoing. No other information is available at this time.

On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at approximately 1:00 PM, 38-year-old Kareem Quattlebaum of New York was arrested in the Bronx, New York, by the FBI New York Office for the murder of 28-year-old Jaquan Humphries of Mattapan, Massachusetts. Humphries was shot and killed on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at a residence located at 531 Madawaska Road in Palmyra.

Quattlebaum was taken to NYPD Central Booking and will be held at Rikers Island pending an extradition hearing. The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit Central was assisted in this investigation by the FBI Safe Streets Task Force in Maine and the FBI New York Office.

The investigation is ongoing. No other information is available at this time.

On Monday, October 13, 2025, at approximately 6:12 AM, Troopers responded to the area of 389 Kelly Road in Stacyville for an ATV crash on a public way. The sole occupant of the ATV was 70-year-old Joyce Cummings of Stacyville. 

The preliminary investigation shows the ATV was traveling on the road when items began to fall off the back of the ATV. The ATV appeared to turn and crash. Cummings was thrown from the ATV. She was not wearing a helmet. She sustained severe injuries and was transported by LifeFlight to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor in critical condition.

The crash remains under investigation.

On Sunday, October 12, 2025, at approximately 9:20 AM, a Maine Game Warden came across a three-vehicle collision on Northfield Road (Route 192) in Northfield. The Warden reported the incident to the Bangor Regional Communications Center to coordinate medical aid and emergency response.  

The preliminary investigation indicates a 16-year-old female from Northfield was operating a Honda Accord traveling northbound on Route 192 and was in the process of making a left turn into her driveway. At the same time, 50-year-old Perin Yates of East Machias was driving a black GMC pickup truck traveling southbound on Route 192. The two vehicles subsequently collided while the Honda was positioned in the southbound lane.

Following the initial collision, the Honda spun out and struck a GMC pickup truck operated by 43-year-old Aaron Getchell of Whitneyville who was following behind. Getchell was not injured. Both Yates and the 16-year-old driver sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital. The 16-year-old driver is in critical condition but is expected to survive.

The Maine Warden Service, Maine Marine Patrol and Washington County Sheriff’s Office and other emergency agencies assisted at the scene.  The crash was reconstructed by Maine State Police. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

On Sunday, October 12, 2025, at approximately 8:49 AM, the Washington Junction Road was temporarily shut down due to a personal injury crash involving two vehicles at the intersection of Poplar Lane and Washington Junction Road in Hancock.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a Kia, operated by 35-year-old Katrina Springer of Ellsworth took a left hand turn from Poplar Lane onto the Washington Junction Road and crashed into a Jeep, operated by 43-year-old Amy Richards of Ellsworth, traveling on the Washington Junction Road towards Ellsworth. Springer was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 4 passengers in the Kia were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Richards was charged with Operating under the Influence and Operating after Revocation. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Hancock Fire Department, Sullivan Fire Department and DC Towing assisted on scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
