MSP Investigates Discovery of Human Remains in Lewiston

On Saturday afternoon, January 25, 2025, human remains were discovered in the Garcelon Bog located at the end of Russell Street in Lewiston. A nearby resident came across the remains and contacted authorities.

 

The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South is assisting the Lewiston Police Department with the investigation. Also assisting on scene were MSP Evidence Response Technicians, Maine Game Wardens, and Lewiston Public Works.

 

The remains have been transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for identification and further examination. Initial findings indicate that the remains have been there for an extended period of time, and there is no danger to the public.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
