On March 22^nd, at approximately 8:44 P.M., the South Berwick Police Department received a 911 call reporting a domestic dispute with shots fired at 48 Brattle Street. Jeremiah Godfrey, 43 years old, called 911 and reported that he had an argument with his girlfriend, Sherri Sweet, 37 years old. Godfrey described a struggle over the gun, and Sweet sustained a gunshot wound and was unresponsive. First responders arrived on the scene and rendered aid. Sweet was transported to the Portsmouth Regional Hospital. The South Berwick Police Department requested the assistance of the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit-South. The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit -South responded and continued to investigate the circumstances, with the assistance of the South Berwick Police Department.

Sherri Sweet was pronounced deceased on March 23, 2025, at 10:15 P.M. The New Hampshire Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy on March 24, 2025, and advised the cause and manner of death. The immediate cause is a gunshot wound to the head, and the manner of death is homicide. 

On March 26, 2025, the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South applied for and obtained a warrant for murder. Jeremiah Godfrey was arrested at approximately 12:00 P.M. in the town of South Berwick and subsequently transported to the York County Jail. The Maine State Police would like to thank all of the first responders who assisted with the investigation, include, but not limited to, the South Berwick Police Department, the York Ambulance rescue personnel, the South Berwick Fire Department, the Elliot Police Department, the North Berwick Police Department, and the Berwick Police Department.

On March 22, 2025, at approximately 8:44 PM, State Police Major Crimes South responded to 48 Brattle Street in South Berwick to assist with a shooting investigation. The investigation is ongoing, and there is no danger to the public.

The Maine State Police, through DNA analysis at the State Police Crime Laboratory, have identified the remains found in the Garcelon Bog at the end of Russell Street in Lewiston on January 25, 2025, as Michael Roberts, 68, of Lewiston. Mr. Roberts was reported missing in November of 2019 to the Lewiston Police Department after wandering off from a Bartlett Street residence. State Police Major Crimes South assisted with the recovery of the human remains and identification. It's important to note that the death is not considered suspicious.

An autopsy was conducted today, Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta on 41-year-old Luke Norris. The cause of death has been determined to be multiple sharp force injuries, and the manner of death has been ruled homicide. 36-year-old Heidi Tasker is currently being held without bail at the Penobscot County Jail. She is expected to make her first court appearance on Monday.

On Friday, March 21, 2025, at approximately 6:40 AM, a 911 call was received from a residence at 372 Old County Rd. in Etna. Penobscot County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the call and discovered 41-year-old Luke Norris deceased inside the home. The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit North responded to the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

Detectives and Evidence Response Technicians were on scene throughout the day processing the scene and conducting interviews. The deceased was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy will be performed to determine cause and manner of death. Detectives have arrested Norris’s girlfriend 38-year-old Heidi Tasker and charged her with murder.

Tasker was transported to a local hospital for an evaluation. Norris and Tasker both lived at the home. Further updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.

On Friday, March 21, 2025, at approximately 6:00 AM, the Bangor and Augusta Regional Communication Centers received multiple calls reporting a wrong-way driver on the Turnpike near mile marker 42 in Scarborough.

Witnesses reported that the vehicle, a 2018 Ford Fusion, traveling northbound in the southbound lanes, subsequently exited the Turnpike onto Interstate 295. Additional reports indicated that the vehicle was later seen traveling through the I-295 tolls in South Portland.

The wrong-way vehicle, operated by 86-year-old George Vandenburgh of Portland, ultimately collided head-on with a tractor trailer unit traveling southbound near Exit 4 on Interstate 295. The operator of the tractor trailer was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland with non-life-threatening injuries. Vandenburgh was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Both the northbound and southbound lanes were closed to traffic for several hours. Both lanes have since reopened. The crash remains under investigation.

The Maine State Police has received confirmation from the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta that the deceased female found at Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth has been positively identified as 52-year-old Sari Carlson of Portland, Maine. The cause and manner of death remain pending. There is no risk to the public. Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death. No further details are available at this time.

On Sunday, March 16, 2025, at approximately 2:38 AM, Maine State Police Troop G units were dispatched to a crash near mile marker 55 southbound on the Maine Turnpike in Falmouth.

Upon arrival, Troopers located two damaged vehicles in the median. One of the operators, 61-year-old Patrick Blair of Lewiston, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Maine Medical Center, where he is listed in critical but stable condition. The second operator, 30-year-old Joshua Uwimana, also of Lewiston, fled the scene on foot. A K9 track was conducted, successfully locating Uwimana approximately one mile south of the crash on the shoulder of the Turnpike. Uwimana showed signs of intoxication and was arrested.

The crash led to a full shutdown of the southbound lanes on the Turnpike for several hours, with traffic being diverted at Exit 63. The Kennebunk Police Department responded to assist with crash reconstruction. Gorham Police Department and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office also provided assistance. No further information is available at this time.

The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South is investigating after the body of an unidentified female was discovered washed up onshore at Fort Williams Park near the Portland Head Light on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at approximately 1:50 PM. The deceased is described as a white female, estimated to be in her early 40s, approximately 5’3” tall, with brown hair and blue eyes.

She was wearing a medium-sized blue Fjallraven T-shirt, Frame dark-washed jeans (size 28), and brown AirWair boots (size 7). Notable identifying features include:

• A yin-yang tattoo on her left hip, surrounded by a blue tornado.

• A scar on her stomach from an appendectomy.

• A scar on the back of her head/skull from a previous surgery, with a surgical patch still attached.

On Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at approximately 1:33 AM, the Somerset County Regional Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a shooting at a residence located at 531 Madawaska Road in Palmyra. Deputies from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office responded and discovered a deceased male inside the residence.

The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit – Central, along with Evidence Response Technicians, responded to the scene and conducted an investigation throughout the day.

The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old Jaquan Humphries of Mattapan, Massachusetts, who had been living at the residence. His body was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, where an autopsy was performed. The cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound, and the manner of death has been ruled a homicide. At this time, there is no known danger to the public.

The investigation remains ongoing.
