Troop F is responsible for police coverage for all of Aroostook County and the northern parts of Penobscot, Piscataquis and Somerset Counties. Aroostook has 9,128 square miles. Aroostook has almost 3,000 miles of public roads and another 5,000 miles of logging roads. The wide-open spaces of farmland along Route 1 make traveling treacherous in winter. Traveling is also treacherous on Rt. 11 because of the logging traffic and the high amount of moose accidents. Aroostook has a population of 72,000 people who are mostly involved in the farming/logging industry. Troop F also has 49 miles of interstate and aircraft details help reduce the amount of speeders. The Troop has 1 Lieutenant, 3 Sergeants, 3 Corporals, 18 Troopers and one Secretary. The Barracks in Houlton is also a Regional Communications Center for the County with 9 Public Safety Dispatchers and 1 Supervisor, and we also staff 1 mechanic with a two-bay garage.
Troopers are also assigned to numerous specialty units in addition to their patrol functions. Troop F has personnel assigned to the Bomb Team, Dive Team, K-9 Team, Evidence Response Team and as Drug Recognition Experts. Members of these teams assist state, county and municipal police agencies with their expertise in their given specialties. We also have Troopers who are certified instructors in Firearms and EVOC through the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.
Whether it is conducting a burglary investigation, or traffic enforcement, responding to a domestic violence complaint or speaking to a community group, the Troopers of Troop F strive, always, to provide the highest and most professional level of service possible in keeping with the core values of the Maine State Police.
