I-295 Project Calls for Overnight On/Off Ramp Closings This Week At Forest Avenue Interchange

Portland, ME. Work on Interstate 295 Northbound (NB) will require overnight closings for three on/off ramps scheduled for Wednesday, May 2, at Portland?s Forest Avenue interchange ? although cooler evenings may force workers to wait for warmer air to arrive before paving can get underway.

Work associated with these overnight ramp closings may take one to two weeks. Highway improvement work can be both weather and temperature dependent, and delays are possible.

Penobscot Narrows Observatory Opens for the Season

Prospect ? The Penobscot Narrows Observatory, located on the grounds of Fort Knox at 711 Fort Knox Road in Prospect, will be open for its sixth season starting Thursday, May 3rd from 10:00am to 5:00pm.

The one-minute elevator ride will take residents and tourists alike to a 360 degree view from 437 feet above the Penobscot River, just a few miles from Penobscot Bay. Located atop the northern tower of the Penobscot Narrows Bridge, the observatory offers spectacular views of the mountains, lakes and portions of Penobscot Bay.

Acadia Gateway Administrative and Maintenance Facility Ribbon Cutting

Trenton ? Friday, May 4th marked the grand opening of the Acadia Gateway Center administrative and maintenance facility in Trenton. This transit facility will ease congestion and improve transportation at Acadia National Park, as well as Mount Desert Island, by housing and maintaining the Island Explorer buses. More than thirty of these buses are propane powered, allowing residents and tourists to park their personal vehicles and enjoy the free shuttle service in an environmentally friendly way.

I-95 Road Work Underway

Augusta ? Road crews are currently working on I-95 southbound, from Exit 179 to Exit 161, in the vicinity of Hampden and Plymouth. Work will continue through September and will include drainage pipe installation, paving, as well as tree and brush removal. Traffic is reduced to one lane while crews are working between 7am and 7pm. Two-way traffic will resume between 7pm and 7am.

Veterans Memorial Bridge Closed Thursday Night

SOUTH PORTLAND ? Due to construction of the new Veterans Memorial Bridge, the existing Veterans Memorial Bridge will be closed from 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 10 to 6 a.m. the next day. This necessary closure will allow construction crews to safely install drainage pipe across the existing bridge.

Detour signs will be posted to alert drivers of alternate routes. Please plan ahead and allow more time to get to your destination. MaineDOT regrets any inconvenience caused by this necessary closure.

Reconstruction Of Route 201 In Farmingdale Enters Final Stages ? Grading and Paving Scheduled For This Weekend

Farmingdale, ME ? The reconstruction of Route 201 in the town of Farmingdale is in the final stages of construction, according to the general contractor completing the project. John Sturgeon, Senior Project Manager for Sargent Corporation stated, "We are continuing our efforts to accelerate the project for final completion by June 30th with the least possible daytime disruption to the local businesses and the traveling public".

Traffic Counting in Boothbay

Boothbay ? Crews will be installing traffic counting sensors in the pavement in Boothbay on Monday, May 21st, and Tuesday, May 22nd. (Rain date is Thursday, May 24th) The installation will be on Route 27, approximately 50 feet north of the intersection of the River Road, extending southerly for 500 feet.

Due to alternating one-way traffic through the work zone, flaggers will assist motorists from 9am to 3pm while the work is being conducted.
