MOUNT DESERT, Maine ? Motorists traveling to Acadia National Park need to be aware of a 35-day bridge closure on the Stanley Brook Road in Seal Harbor that is set to begin on Monday, September 19. During that time crews will be replacing the nearly 60-year old Stanley Brook Bridge.
During the closure, motorists will be detoured to a route that includes the Stanley Brook Road and the Jordan Pond Road. Motorists towing large RVs need to be aware that there are several low clearance bridges along the detour route.
Once the new bridge is in place and open, crews will continue to work in the area, and will be paving the approaches to the bridge. Final paving is expected to take place in the spring of 2012.
The Stanley Brook Bridge is located on Peabody Drive (Route 3) across from the beach in Seal Harbor. The steel girder bridge was built in 1953.
