Terminal Parking Info

Parking is located next to the terminal and is a credit card only, pay-in-lane automated lot. Parking may not be reserved. Spaces are limited and are on a first come first serve basis, even for prepaid discount parkers. We recommend you arrive early during the busy summer season.

Overflow parking may be found at Rockland Municipal Lots at the following locations:

  • Oceanside High School: 400 Broadway, Rockland, ME 04861 (seasonal available June 1 - Labor Day)
  • Buoy Park: 1L1 Park Dr, Rockland, ME 04841
  • Harbor Park: S Main St, Rockland, ME 04841
  • Thorndike Parking Lot, off of Tilson Avenue

Parking Rates

  • $390 Annual
  • $12 per day for a 24-hour period
  • $60 per week
  • $115 per 30 days
  • $165 per 90 days
  • $210 winter
  • $105 College Students with valid college ID (valid from day after Labor Day to May 14)

A $10 Access Card enables customers who have purchased long term discount parking to come and go as long as space is available.

The Access Card can be renewed annually. There is a $10 fee for replacing a lost or damaged card.

The discounted rates and access cards may be purchased at the Rockland Terminal.

Reservations to North Haven & Vinalhaven

Vehicle Reservations can be made 1 month in advance.

Reservations go off sale two hours prior to the scheduled departure.

When two consecutive months have an unequal number of days, reservations will be granted as follows:

  • Reservations for March 29 through March 31 may be purchased on the last day of February
  • Reservations for May 31 may be purchased on April 30 Reservations for July 31 may be purchased on June 30
  • Reservations for October 31 may be purchased on September 30
  • Reservations for December 31 may be purchased on November 30

Walk-Ins

Vehicle Reservation requests will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis by those walking into the terminal, beginning at 6:30 AM for North Haven and 7:00 AM for Vinalhaven.

If you plan to return on the same day, both the departure and return reservations may be made together. If the return date is not on the same day of departure, the return reservation may not be made until one month prior to the travel date.

By Phone

Phone reservations for both islands may be made (if space is available) FOR ALL DEPATURE TIMES beginning one month in advance of the travel date, starting at 9:30am.

Call 207-596-5400 and choose the reservation options. You will enter a phone queue and calls will be answered in the order they came in.

If you plan to return on the same day, both the departure and return reservations may be made together. If the return date is not on the same day of departure, the return reservation may not be made until one month prior to the travel date.

Vehicle Info

Reservation space is limited and sells out quickly regardless of the time of year. Please be clear what kind of vehicle you are taking when making a reservation.

Vehicle and truck reservations are NOT interchangeable due to the length and size of the vehicles. For further information, see the Fare Information page.

 

Reservations to Matinicus
  • Reservations may be made up to three (3) months in advance. Matinicus Recycling may make one (1) truck reservation per trip up to four (4) months in advance.
  • Customers may request reservations by calling the Rockland terminal.
  • To confirm a reservation, the entire fee for the vehicle must be received by the Rockland office within one week of the telephone call or the reservation will be forfeited.
  • The entire fee is nonrefundable (unless the trip is cancelled by the Maine State Ferry Service) and the ticket will not be honored on any other trip.
  • A reservation may be transferred to another trip, at no additional cost, provided at least a two week notice is given in advance of scheduled departure of original trip and space is available on the requested trip.
Line Up Procedure

*IMPORTANT!* Customers with vehicles that do not have a reservation leaving the island need to contact the island terminal for a line number the day before returning, to secure a space on the ferry for the vehicle. This includes same day travel without a reservation. Please see the island home page for specific information.

  • Vehicles must line up in the non reserved line on a first come, first serve basis
  • Vehicles must fit completely within the painted lines on the pavement
  • Vehicles must line up in the direction of the flow of traffic
  • The selection of vehicles for boarding will begin 15 minutes prior to the scheduled departure time 
  • A licensed driver must be in the vehicle and prepared to board immediately includes having tickets ready to present to MSFS staff
  • If a vehicle does not have a driver, the vehicles behind it will be loaded
  • Once the vessel is fully loaded, the other vehicles may move ahead of the vacant vehicle
  • One vehicle may be substituted for another in line, provided the substituting vehicle would require the same ticket and fits completely in the vacated space 
  • A truck may be substituted for another truck, provided the line truck is of equal or greater length than the substituted truck
  • No vehicles may be placed in line more than 24 hours in advance of the departure time on which the vehicle will be transported on
  • Vacant spaces in the line may be filled, except during the loading process for that line, and it must completely fit inside the vacant space
  • A space cannot be created by moving other vehicles
  • No parking in the ferry line, despite time of year 
  • If the line is full, please ask the line attendant where the overflow traffic is being directed
  • Yellow line is for the first come, first serve vehicle line up for Vinalhaven 
  • Red line is designated for reserved vehicles for Vinalhaven
