Portland, ME. Maine?s recent warm, dry weather has allowed contractors to get a head start on this year?s $7.9 million bridge rehabilitation project on Interstate 295.
MaineDOT has announced that construction crews will close two of Portland?s I-295 northbound on-ramps on Tuesday, March 27, at the Congress Street interchange. The two ramps, the Park Avenue and Congress Street on-ramps, will be closed for the duration of work at this location. Off-ramps there will remain open.
Portland ? Today, motorists need to be aware of crews working on the Portland side of the Casco Bay Bridge making adjustments to the warning gates, resulting in multiple 10 minute closures throughout the day, as workers lower the gates to check the alignments. This work is for southbound traffic only, and will be completed by 3:00pm.
Augusta ? MaineDOT and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) have released the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS)/Clean Water Act Section 404 Permit Application Supporting Information for the I-395/Route 9 Transportation Study for review and comment.
Livermore Falls/Jay ? Construction crews will be starting work again this season on Route 4 in Livermore Falls beginning on Monday, April 2nd at 7:00am. Motorists should expect delays of 5 to 15 minutes as they travel the one mile distance between the intersection of Bridge Street and Main Street to Pineau Street. Variable message signs will alert travelers as they approach the area, with flaggers assisting in alternating lane shifts.
Topsham ? Route 196 in Topsham is closed due to a structure fire. Motorists are being detoured onto the River Road until further notice. The closure is expected be in place for several hours, so crews have set up message boards to guide travelers through the alternate route.
Westbrook ? Underground utility work will begin on Friday, April 6th at 8:00pm on the Cumberland Street Bridge in Westbrook. Long delays are expected through the area. There will be lane closures at night and traffic shifts during the daytime hours, so drivers should consider traveling the mandatory truck detour route beginning and ending at the intersections of Bridge Street and Cumberland Street, as well as Warren Avenue and Main Street. (Route 25). This alternate route will be in effect until the completion of the bridge construction, scheduled for November of 2013.
Ashland ? An accident involving a passenger truck and a train has closed part of Route 11 in Ashland from Route 163 to the Garland Road. Detour signs will guide motorists onto the Garland road, and then back onto Route 11.
Emergency crews are on the scene, and expect to be there for several hours. Please plan your travel accordingly.
Leeds ? Road construction has started again this season on Route 219 in Leeds, with traffic down to one lane on the approximately two mile stretch from the Androscoggin River to the Dead River.
Crews will be reconstructing the road with structure improvements, new drainage along the roadway as well as additional safety improvements to the corridor that carries approximately 3,300 vehicles a day.
Work is expected to be completed in late June of this year.
The $2.7 million contract was awarded to A. H. Grover of Cumberland.
Burnham ? Motorists traveling in the town of Burnham need to be aware of a closure and detour of Route 100. The truck detour will begin in Clinton with traffic being directed to follow Hinckley Road to I-95. Once in Pittsfield, trucks will be guided by detour signs onto Exit 150, proceeding along Somerset Avenue to Industrial Park Road, then on to Stinson Street, finally ending at Route 100.
