Requirements for Interconnected VoIP Companies

Interconnected VoIP Registration for Maine

Pursuant to the Federal Communications Commission’s FCC 15-70 Order, in order for Interconnected Voice over Internet Protocol (I-VoIP) providers to obtain numbering resources from the North American Numbering Plan Administrator and Pooling Administrator, I-VoIP companies must provide at least 30-days’ notice of their intent to request numbering resources through the North American Numbering Pool with states.

On June 8, 2023, Governor Janet Mills signed into law LD 396, An Act to Preserve the 207 Area Code and Impede So-called Robocalling. Effective October 25, 2023, Title 35-A MRSA §7110 requires I-VoiP service providers to register with the Commission using our Case Management System (CMS) to inform the Commission of an I-VoIP's contact information, and for all requests for initial and growth blocks for one or more rate centers.

The Commission does not regulate I-VoIP providers or approve block requests, but does require that I-VoIP providers utilize CMS to meet their notification requirements.
