Distributed Generation Renewable Energy Credit (REC) Purchase Program

Distributed Generation REC Purchase Program Summary:

One of the programs established by the Legislature (P.L. 2019 c. 478) is the Shared Distributed Generation Program. Under the Shared Distributed Generation Program, the generation (or energy) from a participating project is sold to the Standard Buyer and the subscriber receives a credit (in dollars) on their electric bill.  The RECs associated with a subscriber’s share of a Distributed Generation project are also sold along with the energy to the Standard Buyer.  A Distributed Generation subscriber with a share of less than 25 kilowatts may, however, voluntarily elect to purchase RECs up to the amount of, and of a substantially equivalent type, to that which the subscriber has sold to the standard buyer at a price equal to 80% of the market value.

How the Distributed Generation REC Purchase Program Works:

Many of the details of how the Distributed Generation REC Purchase Program will work are currently being developed by the Commission. Please check back later for additional information on this program.
