In 1996, the Maine Department of Transportation formed the Office of Passenger Transportation and chartered the Passenger Transportation Advisory Committee. These initiatives are now fostering a multimodal approach to moving people that is unique among rural state transportation agencies.

Public Transit Advisory Council
The Governor’s Public Transit Advisory Council (PTAC) was created by state law to strengthen the collaborative efforts in the delivery of human services transportation across various state agencies and their respective transportation programs. Specifically, the law mandates that the commissioners (or their designees) of Transportation, Health and Human Services and Labor serve on the committee to promote efficiency, cooperation and strategic planning for public transportation purposes.
