06-12-22

The Maine State Police responded to a fatal motorcycle crash in Waltham on the Waltham Road. A motorcycle, operated by Darrell King (51) of Brewer, lost control in a sharp curve, slid across the roadway, and struck an oncoming vehicle. The motorcycles passenger, Melissa Hatch (50) of Brewer, suffered fatal injuries from the crash. Both the operator and the passenger were wearing helmets. The operator of the oncoming vehicle did not suffer injuries. Speed was a factor in the crash. Local fire departments/EMS, The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Ellsworth Police Department, and Maine DOT assisted with the crash. Trooper Jarid Leonard, Trooper Travis Chapman, and Sergeant Gavin Endre investigated the crash.

Trooper Einar Mattson arrested Cullen Schneider (41) of Orland for Operating Under the Influence after receiving a report of her parked in a driveway and possibly under the influence.

Trooper Jarid Leonard conducted a motor vehicle stop in Calais. Todd Troiani (38) of Baileyville was found to be operating a motor vehicle that was not registered, inspected, insured, and had falsely attached registration plates. Todd’s vehicle was towed, and he was summonsed with a court date.

06-08-22

On 6/8/2022, the Maine State Police stopped a  motor vehicle in Machiasport for a traffic violation that was operated by a juvenile from East Machias.  During the course of the stop the trooper discovered that the juvenile was transporting liquor in violation of 28 MRS Section 2052.  The trooper warned the juvenile for the alcohol offense and issued them a summons for operating a defective motor vehicle.  An early version of this story mistakenly reported that the juvenile was 18 when in fact they were 17 years old at the time.  
 

Trooper Travis Chapman responded to Yu Takeout in Hancock where counterfeit money was attempted to be exchanged for food. After an investigation, it was likely an unintended event and no charges were pressed.

Corporal Blaine Silk received a complaint in Sullivan reporting a checkbook was stolen from a residence. Investigation continues.

Corporal Blaine Silk received a complaint of criminal mischief in Gouldsboro, reporting that the two passenger side tires were sliced while it was parked beside the road in Sullivan.

Trooper Owen Reed summonsed Nicholas Bailey (33) of Blue Hill, for Operating After Suspension after a traffic stop in Sedgwick.

Sergeant Jeff Ingemi arrested James Knox (56) of Calais, for Operating Under the Influence of Drugs after a traffic stop in Calais.  A passenger, James Knox (24) of Machias was also arrested for having an active warrant for his arrest.  Trooper Kim Sawyer and Deputy Ethan Stevens assisted.

Trooper Jarid Leonard conducted a motor vehicle stop in Calais. Kathryn Archer (19) of Princeton was found to be operating without a license and operating with an expired registration exceeding 150 days. She was charged and summonsed with a court date.

Trooper Einar Mattson received a complaint of a stolen ATV Side X Side from a camp in Eastbrook.  Investigation continues.

Trooper Einar Mattson received a complaint of vandalism to playground equipment at the playground near the town office in Sullivan.

06-01-22

Trooper Steven Mahon responded to a theft complaint in Columbia where a chainsaw was reported stolen from a shed.  Investigation continues.

06-03-22

Trooper Keith York, Trooper Jake Ferland, Trooper Josh Lander and Troopers from Troop E arrested Rian Moore (35) of Danforth, and Mikayla Lowell (28) of Danforth, in Lincoln as a result of the fatal crash investigation that occurred on May 29th north of Danforth in T8 R4 NBPP on the Springfield Road.  Moore was charged for Class A Manslaughter, Class C Driving to Endanger and Class C Leaving the Scene of an Accident - Causing Serious Bodily Injury or Death.  Lowell was charged with Class B Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution and Class C Tampering with a Witness or Informant.

Corporal Blaine Silk responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 1 in Sullivan. The operator of the vehicle fled the scene prior to the arrival of Corporal Silk. The operator, Jeffrey Lynn (39) Gouldsboro was located at his residence by Gouldsboro Police Department and Lynn was returned to the scene. Lynn was arrested for Operating Under the Influence, Operating After Suspension and leaving the scene.

Trooper Kim Sawyer summoned Dawn Hewes (48) Topsfield for Operating After Suspension Class C.

Trooper Kim Sawyer summonsed Joshua Jarsonbeck (39) of Crawford for Operating Without a License after an incident last night on RT 9 and the Crawford Arm Rd in Crawford

Trooper Jarid Leonard conducted a motor vehicle stop on Dallas Ball (23) of Calais. He was stopped for many Maine motor vehicle violations. During the traffic stop, Dallas was found to be operating a motor vehicle with a registration expired more than 150 days (Class E crime). Dallas was charged as a result of the motor vehicle stop.

Trooper Steven Mahon responded to a criminal mischief complaint in Steuben where a fence had been damaged during the night.  Investigation continues.

Trooper Steven Mahon summonsed Alexander Chadbourne (27) of Deer Isle, for Operating After Suspension after a traffic stop in Milbridge.

Trooper Einar Mattson received a complaint of criminal mischief in Mariaville.  It was reported that a vehicle’s window was shot out with a BB gun. Investigation continues.

Trooper Kim Sawyer received a report of a stolen side by side in Robbinston.  No suspects.

Corporal Blaine Silk received a complaint of theft of an electrical system from a camp in Otis. Theft occurred sometime within the past several months. Investigation continues.

Trooper Steven Mahon responded to a theft complaint in Hancock where metal building items were reported stolen from a construction site.  Sergeant Jeff Ingemi and Trooper Josh Lander assisted.  Investigation continues.

05-18-22

Trooper Jarid Leonard conducted a speed detail on Route 1A in Dedham. During the detail, many operators were stopped for speeding 15mph or more through the active construction zone. The construction zone is clearly posted at 40mph. Citations were issued.

05-20-22

Trooper Owen Reed responded to a crash in Sedgwick shortly after 2200 hours where a gray 2008 Subaru Legacy, operated by Dakota Markham (18) of Sedgwick, was travelling South on the Caterpillar Hill Road and drove across the oncoming lane and off the opposite side of the roadway.  Markham was deceased at the scene.  A 15-year-old passenger was transported to a local hospital for injuries.  Speed and driver inexperience were factors in the crash.  Both occupants of the vehicle were wearing seatbelts. Sergeant Jeff Ingemi, Hancock Sheriff Office, Peninsula Ambulance and Sedgwick Fire Department assisted at the scene.

Trooper Steven Mahon responded to a crash in Cherryfield where a side by side operating on the roadway left the roadway and crashed into a telephone pole. Three occupants were injured in the crash.

Trooper Travis Chapman stopped a vehicle on Route 1 in Sullivan. As a result of the roadside investigation the operator Tony Bates (44) of Belfast was arrested for Operating Under the Influence. A drug recognition evaluation was conducted, and Tony was suspected to be under the influence of drugs. Tony was charged with Operating Under the Influence of Drugs and Possession of a Schedule W Drug. Sergeant Gavin Endre assisted

05-07-22

Trooper Travis Chapman responded to a fatal car versus motorcycle crash in TWP 22. The operator of the motorcycle, Charles Brown (49) of Indian Township was pronounced deceased on scene. The operator of the other vehicle, Daniel Lyons (46) of Veazie had fled the scene on foot and was apprehended after a search of the area. Daniel was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries and was subsequently arrested for class B Operating Under the Influence and Class A Manslaughter. Corporal Blaine Silk, Troopers Josh Lander, Jarid Leonard, Taylor Dube and his K9 partner assisted on scene as well as Warden Alan Curtis, Maine DOT and the Osborn Fire Department.

Trooper Kim Sawyer summonsed Dustin Ramsdell (28) of Calais for breaking the driver’s side window on a vehicle while in Princeton.

Trooper Owen Reed responded to a theft complaint in Brooksville where an antique sink was reported stolen.  Investigation continues.

05-12-22

Trooper Jarid Leonard conducted a motor vehicle stop in Baring Township. Walter Tomah (39) of Indian Township was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with an Expired Registration Exceeding 150 days.

05-14-22

Brian Colby (64) of Bucksport and Brandi Rossell (41) of Hudson were involved in a single vehicle motorcycle crash. Brian and Brandi were travelling southbound on Route 9 in Crawford. They approached a sharp curve and Brian lost control of his motorcycle. Brian suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Brandi suffered serious injuries. It’s not yet known if her injuries are fatal. Trooper Leonard is conducting an ongoing investigation. Downeast EMS, Life Flight, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and local fire departments assisted.

Trooper Miles Carpenter responded to a civil complaint in Franklin. While on scene, he discovered a camper that was stolen out of Ohio. Trooper Carpenter recovered the stolen camper and summonsed Lisa Brooke Saunders (40) of Michigan for theft of services.

Trooper Travis Chapman and Sergeant Gavin Endre responded to the intersection of Macquinn Road and Douglas Highway in Lamoine. A passerby reported a male operator was passed out in his vehicle at the stop sign. The operator of the vehicle, Joseph Fallica (31) of Lamoine, was arrested and charged with Operating Under the Influence.

04-24-22

Trooper Jarid Leonard conducted a motor vehicle stop in Calais. Justine Cheney (19) of Calais was found to be operating an expired motor vehicle with a registration that exceeded 150 days. Justine was charged as a result of the investigation.

Trooper Jarid Leonard conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 1 in Jonesboro. Christopher Chaponis (62) of Harrington was found exceeding the posted speed limit by 30 mph. Christopher received a summons as a result of the investigation.

04-27-22

Sergeant Gavin Endre responded to Acadia Highway in Orland for the report of a male trying to get run over by traffic. The male had also laid down in the roadway in front of a school bus. Once on scene, Sergeant Endre along with Marine Patrol Officers arrested Kyle Ellis (39) of Orland for Obstructing a Public Way.

Trooper Keith York arrested Nathan Moffett Sr (45) of Calais. Nathan was charged with Violation of Conditions of Release.

Trooper Kim Sawyer summonsed Joel Fickett (62) of Marshfield for Operating After Suspension, Class E after a traffic stop for an expired registration (8/31/2021) on RT 191 in Meddybemps.  Joel’s inspection had expired in 5/2009, and he was unable to provide an insurance card.  His vehicle was towed.

Trooper Einar Mattson received a complaint of a missing person in Dedham. Subsequently James Melanson (62) of Dedham was located and arrested for Violation of Bail Conditions.

Corporal Jeff Taylor investigated a report of property damage on the Tunk Lake Road in Sullivan. Several mailboxes had been run over during the night. Investigation continues.

Trooper Owen Reed responded to a theft reported in Blue Hill. It was reported a large amount of jewelry stolen from a vehicle. Investigation continues.

Trooper Owen Reed summonsed Trevor Moon (50) of Sedgwick, for Operating with a Revoked License after a traffic stop in Penobscot.

04-14-22

Trooper Owen Reed responded to a theft complaint in Deer Isle where money was reported stolen from a wallet that was left in a vehicle during the past few days.  Investigation continues.

Trooper Jarid Leonard investigated a crash on US Route 1 in Columbia. Woodrow Richardson (61) of Columbia left the roadway suddenly and crashed into a telephone pole. Woodrow suffered minor injuries from the crash. An investigation is ongoing, but the cause of the crash is from a medical event. Versant Power, McLaughlin’s Towing, and local fire departments assisted.

04-15-22

Trooper Jarid Leonard conducted a motor vehicle stop in Calais. Austin Serrato (24) of Calais was found to be operating after revocation and operating a motor vehicle with an expired registration that exceeded 150 days. Austin was charged as a result of the investigation.

Corporal Jeff Taylor responded to a theft complaint in Danforth where a .45 caliber Sig Sauer handgun was reported stolen from either a vehicle or a workplace.  Investigation continues.

Sergeant Daniel Ryan stopped a vehicle for speeding through a construction site on RT 1A in Dedham. The operator, Tyler Tibbetts (29) of Addison was summoned for the Speed, Operating After Suspension and Violation of Condition of Release.

Corporal Blaine Silk was involved in a vehicle chase that started on RT 1, Hancock.  It ended at a residence on the Washington Junction Road in Hancock. James Lane (29) Hancock was arrested for Operating Under the Influence and Failing to Stop.

04-07-22

Trooper Kim Sawyer received a complaint that a shed in the town of Danforth had been broken into and two chain saws were stolen.  Investigation continues. 

04-08-22

Trooper Jarid Leonard conducted a motor vehicle stop on Tracey Wallace (51) of Crawford. She was found to be operating with a registration the exceeded 150 days of expiration. She was charged as a result of the investigation.

04-09-22

Trooper Jarid Leonard investigated a traffic complaint in Calais. Wayne Kelly (63) of Calais was reported to be driving while under the influence of alcohol. Trooper Leonard found Wayne at his home. Wayne was heavily intoxicated and was violating his conditions of release. A bail search was conducted, and Wayne was found to be in possession of 18 full beers among several hundred empty beer cans. Wayne’s alcohol was seized, and he was summonsed for Violating his Conditions of Release.

Twenty minutes after leaving Wayne’s residence, he was observed driving his car on North Street in Calais to a Shell gas station. Wayne purchased more beer and tried to drive home. Wayne was arrested for Operating Under the Influence and Violating his Conditions of Release.

Trooper Miles Carpenter responded to a rear end crash on the Douglass Highway in Lamoine. Minor injuries were reported.

Corporal Jeff Taylor responded to a crash in Danforth where a vehicle had struck a business.  As a result of the investigation, Lawrence Oliver (59) of Danforth, was summonsed for Operating after Suspension.

04-10-22

Trooper Keith York responded to a report of an erratic vehicle in Calais.  Several people called to report a truck driving erratically and doing burnouts in the roadway between Calais and Robbinston.  A short time later this truck was reported to be involved in a crash and had driven into a ditch in Robbinston.  Upon arrival the operator, Jonathan Brooks (43) of Robbinston, was found in the vehicle and was acting erratic in his behavior.  Brooks was arrested for Driving to Endanger, Failure to Submit to Arrest and Violation of Conditions of Release.  Two civilians, Pleasant Point Police Department and Eastport Police Department assisted.
