Rumford Man Arrested in Orlando Fla.

On February 17, 2021, the Maine State Police obtained a warrant for the arrest of 46-year-old Seth Carey of Rumford, Maine.  Carey was arrested this afternoon in Orlando, Florida, and is currently being held at the Orange County Jail.  This investigation began in March of 2018 when a 34-year-old female reported to the Rumford Police Department that she had been sexually assaulted by Carey.

Because Carey was a locally practicing attorney in the Rumford area, the local District Attorney’s Office (Prosecutorial District III) asked that the Maine State Police handle the investigation in conjunction with the District Attorney’s Office from Hancock County.  The Maine State Police worked cooperatively with the Rumford Police Department and the Hancock County District Attorney’s Office to bring a resolution to this complaint.

Due to the nature of the complaint and the related evidence involved, including the judicial review of warrants and records, this investigation took more than three years to complete.  Today’s arrest is the culmination of three years of investigation by the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit – South and the review by the Hancock County District Attorney’s Office.  Special thanks to the United States Marshal Service Maine Violent Offender Task Force and the Florida Caribbean/Regional Fugitive Task Force for their assistance in locating and apprehending Carey while he was traveling out of state.

The arrest warrant was for the following charges:

•    Attempted Gross Sexual Assault - Class B
•    Attempted Aggravated Sex Trafficking – Class C
•    Unlawful Sexual Contact – Class D
•    Domestic Violence Assault – Class D
•    Engaging in Prostitution – Class E
