Violent Crimes Task Force Arrest Gray Man on Felony Warrants

A Gray man was arrested on multiple warrant yesterday in a joint effort by area law enforcement.

On April 29, troopers assigned to the Troop B barracks in Gray received a tip that an Alexander Russell, 32, of Gray, who had numerous arrest warrants for sexual assaults, was believed to be at a residence in Gray.

Troopers working with members of the US Marshal’s Violent Crimes Task Force and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office obtained information that Russell was inside the residence. A search warrant for the residence was acquired and Russell was located hiding inside the residence. He was arrested without incident and transported to the Cumberland County Jail.


Maine State Police and the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office are investigating a stabbing and assault that occurred the evening of July 19 in Harrison that left a woman with serious injuries and her son charged with the attack.  The violence took place at the woman's home at 195 Dawes Hill Road around 8 p.m.   Being treated at Maine Medial Center is 49-year-old Halimo Azair for stab wounds. She was flown to the hospital by the LifeFlight helicopter.  She also suffered injuries to the head , arms and face from a splitting maul.  Her son -- 24-year-old Mohamed Noh is at the Cumberland County Jail charged with elevated aggravated assault.  He was arrested by deputies last night and is due in court on Monday.  The attack took place near a small barn on the property as Azair was feeding livestock.  A motive for the violence is still be investigated.
