  • Arrest Made in Double Homicide in Auburn

    On Friday, July 1, 2022, shortly after 10:00 a.m. 34-year-old David Barnett, or Slim as he was known of Port Clyde, New York was arrested in Rockland, Maryland on a warrant for Murder. The arrest stems from the June 6, 2022 killing of 21-year-old Kelzie Caron and 21-year-old Pierre Langlois of Connecticut at a residence at 49 Fourth St in Auburn. Barnett was taken into custody without incident near an apartment complex in Rockland and additionally holds a nationwide warrant out of New York for probation revocation on a prior robbery charge.

    Barnett will be held at the Montgomery County Jail pending extradition proceedings. The Maine State Police and Auburn Police Detectives have been building this case with their interstate partners at the local, state, and federal levels in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, and Maryland. The investigation into the murders continues and people with information regarding this case are encouraged to contact the Auburn Police Department or the Maine State Police.

  • Maine State Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Penobscot County

    On Friday, July 1, 2022, at approximately 6:23 p.m. Maine State Police responded to a two vehicle crash on Rt. 7 in Corinna. Initial investigation determined that a motorcycle operated by 60-year-old Merle Page of Corinna was traveling north on Rt. 7 when he crossed the center line into opposing traffic striking a Chevy Silverado head on. Page was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.

    The driver of the Chevy Silverado and his 8-year-old son were not injured.  The State Police were assisted on scene by the Penobscot County Sherriff’s Office and the Corinna Fire Department.

    The crash remains under investigation.
     

  • Troop F Weekly Report 06-27 to 07-03-22

    Brief Synopsis:       Sgt. Clark was driving through Stockholm when he observed a vehicle committing a traffic infraction.  After stopping the car and investigating, the driver was found to have a suspended driver’s license.  Sgt. Clark issued the woman a criminal summons for OAS and helped her arrange to have a licensed driver come get her and her vehicle.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Desrosier investigated a complaint of a woman screaming, nonstop, at an apartment complex in Van Buren.  It was reported a woman kept going to other apartments screaming at the residents.  Tr. Desrosier located the woman, tried to speak with her, but she was yelling at him.  The woman was issued a warning for disorderly conduct and went inside her apartment.  Not long after he left, more complaints were called in regarding the same woman still yelling.  Tr. Desrosier located her down the street and she was still screaming at people and passersby.  Tr. Desrosier arrested the woman for disorderly conduct, and she refused to submit to arrest.  Tr. Desrosier, with the help of a citizen, got her handcuffed and transported to the police station where she was able to post bail.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Kilcollins was conducting traffic enforcement in Monticello when he observed a vehicle driving in the opposite direction that did not have a front registration plate displayed.  Tr. Kilcollins also recognized the driver and knew he had a revoked driver’s license.  Tr. Kilcollins stopped the vehicle and after an investigation issued the driver a criminal summons for OAR.  Tr. Kilcollins helped the man arrange to have someone come get him and his vehicle.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Kilcollins was conducting traffic enforcement and went to stop one vehicle for an infraction.  There was another car between him and the vehicle he was attempting to stop that was refusing to yield to his blue emergency lights.  Tr. Kilcollins was able to get both vehicles stopped and discovered that the vehicle refusing to yield to him had a suspended driver’s license.  The man was issued a criminal summons OAS and a warning for failing to yield right of way.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Kilcollins was conducting traffic enforcement in Monticello when he observed an expired inspection certificate and the registration appeared expired.  A traffic stop was conducted and after an investigation it was determined the vehicle had not been registered for over two years.  Tr. Kilcollins issued the driver a criminal summons for unregistered motor vehicle and a warning for the expired inspection.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Merchant was serving a 30-year-old man with a PFA and arrested him on two active warrants. He was not able to make bail and was transported to ACJ.

    Brief Synopsis:  Tr. Martin investigated a burglary complaint in the town of Woodland.  A Woodland woman had left early in the morning and when she returned home, she noticed some of her personal property was removed from the home and set on fire.  A suspect was developed, and the investigation is ongoing.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Martin received a complaint of drug activity in the area.  During the investigation Tr. Martin met three teenagers walking.  Tr. Martin confronted one of them about the report.  The teenager ultimately confessed to using marijuana and turned it over to Tr. Martin.  The parents of the juveniles were called and was determined they would resolve the issue.

Cotton summonsed the 30-year-old South Portland woman for Attaching False Plates and provided her a Millinocket District Court date in September.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Roy was conducting traffic enforcement in Caribou when he observed a vehicle not displaying an inspection sticker. Tr. Roy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and learned the operator had attached registration plates to the vehicle that did not belong to it. Tr. Roy summonsed the 52-year-old Caribou woman with Attaching False Plates and provided her a Caribou District Court date in September. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Roy responded to a car/moose crash in Madawaska Lake. Through his investigation, Tr. Roy learned the male operator, a 29-year-old St. John man, had been traveling South on New Sweden Road when the moose entered the roadway. The operator was unable to avoid the moose and as a result, the vehicle sustained significant damage. The operator suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. He was transported to Cary Medical Center by Ambulance for treatment.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Cotton stopped a vehicle in Houlton for a traffic infraction. Upon further investigation, Tr. Cotton learned the operator did not have a valid driver’s license. Tr. Cotton summonsed the 41-year-old Connecticut man with Operating without a License and provided him a Houlton District Court date in October.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Roy received a report of a burglary at a garage in Eagle Lake. The owner reported a large number of tools and hardware stolen. Tr. Roy responded and processed the scene for evidence. The investigation is active and ongoing.

  • Maine State Police Arrest Woman in Washington County Homicide

    On Wednesday, July 6th, 2022, at approximately 3:00 p.m. 42-year-old Rebecca Moores, of Robbinston, was arrested without incident on an outstanding warrant for Murder by the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit- North. The arrest occurred during a traffic stop on Hardy Point Road in Pembroke, with assistance from the Pleasant Point Police Department. Moores is charged in connection with the death of 53-year-old Paula Johnson who was found deceased in her home at 515 Leighton Point Road in Pembroke on the evening of Wednesday, February 9th, 2022.  The arrest follows an intensive, months-long investigation.  Moores was transported to the Washington County Jail.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Castonguay was conducting traffic enforcement in Island Falls when he observed a vehicle with an expired inspection certificate.  After stopping the vehicle and conducting an investigation, the driver was found to be operating after license suspension due to not paying child support.  The man was issued a criminal summons for OAS and a warning for the inspection violation.  The driver arranged to have a licensed driver come get him and his vehicle.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Castonguay was out of his vehicle at a private residence in Oakfield when he observed a pickup drive past with a defective exhaust and other violations.  He was not able to locate the vehicle after completing his other business but suspected the occupant(s) were consuming liquor due to garbage found in the roadway and that was not there earlier.  Tr. Castonguay monitored the area during the shift and located it several hours later stopping it for a traffic infraction.  After an investigation, it was determined the driver was impaired from alcohol and was arrested for the violation.  Cpl. Quint gave the passenger, who was also intoxicated, a ride home.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr Merchant responded to the Houlton POE for two people who crossed the border in possession of drugs. The operator a 30-year-old male from Massachusetts was processed and charged with OUI Drugs and the passenger, 40-year-old female from Massachusetts, was charged with possession of Scheduled Drugs. They were in possession of MDMA and Psylocibin (Mushrooms).

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Martin conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was not displaying a license plate. The 20-year-old male operator was arrested on four outstanding warrants for Failing to Appear on previous OAS charges. He was summonsed for VCR and OAS and transported to Aroostook County Jail.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Roy was conducting traffic enforcement in Mars Hill when he observed a vehicle speeding. Tr. Roy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and learned the operator’s license was under suspension. Tr. Roy issued the 47-year-old Smyrna man a summons for Operating after Suspension and provided him a Presque Isle District Court date in September.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Roy was conducting traffic enforcement in Presque Isle when he observed a vehicle not displaying an inspection sticker. Tr. Roy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and discovered the vehicle had multiple defects and was not safe for the road. Tr. Roy also learned the operator’s license was under suspension. Tr. Roy charged the 44-year-old Presque Isle woman with Operating after Suspension and Operating a Defective Motor Vehicle. She is due to appear in Presque Isle District Court in September. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Cotton was conducting traffic enforcement in Houlton when he observed a vehicle not displaying a valid inspection sticker. Tr. Cotton conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and learned the operator’s license was under suspension. He also discovered the operator had falsely attached registration plates to his vehicle. Tr. Cotton charged the 25-year-old Houlton man with Operating after Suspension and Attaching False Plates. He is due to appear in Houlton District Court in October. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Curtin was conducting traffic enforcement in New Sweden when he observed a vehicle with a headlight out. Tr. Curtin conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and learned the operator’s license was under suspension. Tr. Curtin charged the 64-year-old Fort Fairfield man with Operating after Suspension and provided him a Caribou District Court date in September.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Roy was conducting traffic enforcement in Fort Fairfield when he observed a vehicle displaying an expired inspection sticker. Tr. Roy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and determined it was not safe for the road due to major rust issues. Tr. Roy also learned that the vehicle’s registration expired in August of 2021. Tr. Roy charged the 29-year-old Limestone woman with Failure to Register Motor Vehicle  >150 days and provided her a Presque Isle District Court date in October. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

    Trooper Jarid Leonard conducted a motor vehicle stop in Cherryfield on Joshua Sprague (43) of Wesley. Joshua held a suspended license and the license plates on his vehicle did not belong to the vehicle he was driving. Joshua was charged with Operating after Suspension and Attaching False License Plates.

    Trooper Jarid Leonard conducted a motor vehicle stop in East Machias on Linda Strojny (76) of Lubec. Linda’s registration was expired for two years, and she neglected to obtain a Maine license within 90 days of becoming a Maine resident. She was summonsed as a result of the stop.

    Trooper Jarid Leonard conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 9 in Crawford on Misty Thurlow (35) of Calais. Misty was exceeding the speed limit by 21mph and she possessed a suspended driver license. She was summonsed during the stop.

    Trooper Einar Mattson responded to a traffic complaint on Rte. 1 in Hancock. As a result of the stop Herman Bishop (42) of Franklin was arrested for Operating Under the Influence of Drugs.

    Trooper Kim Sawyer received a traffic complaint on the Stud Mill Road, Grand Lake Stream Subsequently Joel Betz (59) of Grand Lake Stream was summoned for Driving to Endanger.

    Sergeant Jeff Ingemi summonsed Benjamin Barnes (38) of Danforth, for Operating after Suspension after a traffic stop in Danforth.

    Corporal Blaine Silk responded to an auto accident on Rte. 1 in Hancock. The operator, Deborah Sinclair (53) Sullivan was administered Narcan at the scene and transported to Maine Coast Hospital. Deborah Sinclair was summoned for OUI Drugs by Corporal Silk.

  • Lewiston Man Killed in Turnpike Crash in Falmouth

    On Friday, July 15, 2022, at approximately 5:06 a.m., Maine State Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash at MM 56 northbound in Falmouth. Once on scene Troopers discovered a 2019 black Toyota Highlander had struck the Hurricane Road overpass bridge abutment. The preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle left the roadway, traveled 200 feet on the grass part of the shoulder went behind the guardrail, and struck the bridge. 

    Troopers believe the driver, 30-year-old Brandon Bates of Lewiston fell asleep at the wheel. Bates was the only occupant in the vehicle. 

    Troopers were assisted on scene by Falmouth Fire & Rescue and the Turnpike Authority. 

    The crash remains under investigation.
     

  • SILVER ALERT: Located Safely

    Penelope Crabtree

    UPDATE: Penelope Crabtree of Sebago has been safely located.


    Thank you for your assistance in this matter.


    The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office has issued a Silver Alert for 79-year old Penelope Crabtree of Sebago. Crabtree was last seen Friday, July 15, 2022 at approximately 8:00 am, when she left her home on Bridgton Rd in Sebago to run errands in Norway. Her last known location was on Lake Rd in Norway. Crabtree, who suffers from dementia and vision problems is driving a white 2014 Nissan Juke SV, Maine Registration Plate 9612NA. Crabtree is a white female, 5’05”, 185 lbs. with brown hair and brown eyes. Crabtree has a history of confusion and losing her way while driving.  

    Anyone who sees Penelope Crabtree or has information should call the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office at 207-893-2810.

  • Massachusetts Man Arrested for Murder in Death of Skowhegan Woman

    On Saturday, July 16, 2022, at approximately 5:39 am the Skowhegan Police Department received a 911 call from a male reporting an assault at 912 Canaan Road, in Skowhegan. Officers responded to the home to find that male suffering from a head injury. The man, who is from Madison, was staying overnight on the property with his friend 20-year-old Alice Abbott of Skowhegan who lived there with her parents. When officers arrived, they also located Alice Abbott deceased on the property. The male friend was later transported to Reddington-Fairview General hospital in Skowhegan where he was treated and released. Maine State Police Detectives and Evidence Technicians worked throughout the day Saturday conducting interviews and investigating the circumstances of Abbott’s death. At approximately 3:20 pm Saturday State Police Detectives arrested 19-year-old Jason Servil of Massachusetts at the Skowhegan Police Department and charged him with Murder in connection with the death of Abbott. Servil was an acquaintance of Abbott. Servil was transported to the Somerset County jail. The decision to charge Servil was made Saturday afternoon following a discussion between the State Police and the Maine Attorney General’s office. 
    Sunday morning July 17, 2022, the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta conducted an autopsy and ruled the death a homicide.
     

  • Troop F Weekly 07-11 to 07-17-22

    Brief Synopsis:       Sgt. Clark is investigating a complaint of criminal mischief and theft at a residence in Patten.  The complainant reported someone used a drill to put a hole in the fuel tank of their vehicle and left a pot under it to collect the fuel.  It is estimated that around 15 gallons of gas was stolen.  This incident is still being investigated.

    Brief Synopsis:       Cpl. Quint was driving north on I-95 in Clinton when he came across a vehicle stopped in the left lane facing south.  An investigation revealed the woman got on the interstate using the off-ramp, and immediately realized she was going the wrong way and stopped.  With the assistance of ECS Ken Knightly, who was driving the IMAT suburban back to Troop E, the woman was turned around and exited the highway.  There was no indication of impairment.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Desrosier was conducting traffic enforcement in Blaine and observed a vehicle not displaying an inspection certificate.  Tr. Desrosier conducted a traffic stop and after an investigation it was found the driver was supposed to be on 24-hour house arrest.  Tr. Desrosier contacted the woman’s probation officer and the PPO will deal with the issue.  Tr. Desrosier issued her a traffic summons for failing to display a valid inspection sticker.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Desrosier was parked at a construction zone in Frenchville when a vehicle passed him.  He recognized both the driver and passenger and was aware they had revoked driver licenses.  Tr. Desrosier attempted to stop the vehicle but it fled at a high rate of speed in a residential area.  Tr. Desrosier terminated the pursuit but continued to check the area for the vehicle.  With the help of the Warden Service, Aroostook SO, Fort Kent PD, the vehicle and both men were located after they had crashed off of an ATV trail.  Tr. Desrosier located three baggies of Methamphetamine on or around the two men and their vehicle.  Both men were arrested.  The passenger has charges of unlawful furnishing of schedule W drug and violating his current bail conditions and had two active warrants for his arrest.  The driver has charges for eluding an officer, driving to endanger, unregistered motor vehicle over 150 days, criminal speed, violating bail conditions, and unlawful furnishing of schedule W drugs.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Roy was conducting traffic enforcement in Presque Isle when he observed a vehicle speeding. Tr. Roy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and learned the operator had an active arrest warrant out of Waterville District Court for a Theft charge. Tr. Roy arrested the 27-year-old Easton woman on the warrant. She was able to post bail and is due to appear in Waterville District Court in August.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Roy charged a 55-year-old Wade man with Operating without a License. Tr. Roy was on a traffic stop in Presque Isle when he noticed the man drive past him. He was familiar with him though prior dealings and was aware he did not possess a valid driver’s license. Tr. Roy issued him a summons and provided him a Presque Isle District Court date in October.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Roy and Tr. Curtin responded to an apartment complex in Mapleton for a death investigation. A 78-year-old female tenant was discovered deceased inside her apartment. The female had a history of medical conditions, and her Doctor agreed to sign off on the death certificate. Nothing suspicious was discovered. **NOT FOR RELEASE**

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Cotton took a complaint of a suspicious female walking around Oakfield late at night. Tr. Cotton responded to the area and located the female, who he learned had an active arrest Warrant for Failure to Appear on a Protection Order Violation charge. Tr. Cotton arrested the 20-year-old Indian Island woman and transported her to the Troop F barracks where she was able to post bail.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Cotton arrested a 49-year-old Milo man on an outstanding warrant. Tr. Cotton went to interview the man on a separate matter, when he learned of the active warrant. A bail commissioner was contacted, and the man posted bail and was provided a new court date.

    Brief Synopsis:       On 6/29/22, Tr. Cotton initiated a stop with a vehicle with falsely attached plates. The female operator was hesitant to identify herself but eventually provided a name and date of birth that was consistent with her physical description. Tr. Cotton warned the female about giving him a false name. The female was charged for the improper plates. Tr. Cotton conducted follow up and interviews with local citizens in the Sherman and Stacyville area and was able to determine that the female had provided him a false name. This female was from the Bangor area and had active bail conditions. Tr. Cotton located the female on 7/15/22 in Stacyville and was able to interview and properly identify her. The 28-year-old Bangor woman was charged with unsworn falsification, Violation of Conditional Release, and Improper plates.

    Brief Synopsis:       Hayes towing out of Stacyville called to report a vehicle they had towed had been taken in the night without receiving payment or notification. Tr. Cotton developed a suspect- the same female that had given him a false name from a few weeks prior on a separate case. After speaking with numerous witnesses in the area and receiving intel on the female’s location, Tr. Cotton located her in Stacyville. The vehicle that had been taken was hidden in her back yard. After an interview with the female suspect and her acquaintance, the 28-year-old Bangor woman was charged with Theft of Services and Violation of Conditional Release.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Cotton assisted US. Border patrol at a check point they were conducting on I95 in Sherman. One of their K-9’s alerted on a vehicle and the agents located a usable amount of suspected Crystal Methamphetamine and a glass smoking apparatus. As a result of his investigation Tr. Cotton charged both occupants of the vehicle, a 29-year-old Houlton woman and a 36-year-old Fairfield man, with Possession of Schedule W Drugs.
