    08-11-21

    Corporal Jeff Taylor responded to a fatal motor vehicle crash on Ayers Junction Road in Pembroke involving a 2009 Toyota Camry, operated by Hardy Preston (58) of Edmunds Township and a 2003 GMC Sonoma, operated by Russell Kirshman (17) of Marion Township. Preston was deceased at the scene and Kirshman was transported to Calais Regional Hospital for minor injuries. Kirshman was traveling in the westbound lane when he crossed the centerline and struck Preston head-on. Distracted driving and driving too fast for conditions appeared to be factors in the crash.  Sergeant Jeff Ingemi, Border Patrol, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Baileyville Police Department and Pleasant Point Police Department assisted along with Pembroke Fire, Dennysville Fire and Rescue, Calais Ambulance, and Lyon’s Towing.

    Trooper Miles Carpenter investigated a criminal mischief complaint in Addision.  Christopher Cunningham (34) of Franklin was summonsed for criminal mischief.

    Trooper Einar Mattson summoned Cindy Gierke (36) Sedgwick for Operating After Suspension after a traffic stop in Deer Isle.

    08-14-21

    Trooper Einar Mattson arrested Amber Wiggins (21) Orland for Operating Under the Influence. The incident occurred on route 15 in Penobscot after Trooper Einar Mattson received a traffic compliant on the vehicle operated by Wiggins.

     

  • Troop F Weekly Report 08-09 to 08-15-21

    Trooper:                   TR. DESROSIER

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Desrosier was conducting traffic enforcement in Frenchville when he observed a vehicle make an illegal/unsafe pass and was speeding.  Tr. Desrosier conducted a traffic stop and after an investigation discovered the male driver had a suspended driver’s license.  There were others in the vehicle, and they were following their friends.  The driver thought it would be funny to pass them and did so in a no passing zone and was speeding approximately 20 mph over the posted speed limit.  He was issued a criminal summons for OAS and a traffic summons for speeding.  The man was issued a warning on the unsafe pass.  The vehicle and occupants were picked up by a licensed driver.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Rider is currently investigating the theft of a catalytic convertor that was stolen from a vehicle parked in Van Buren.  The vehicle was older and had not been driven by the owner for quite some time.  When he went to move the car, he discovered someone had cut the catalytic convertor.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Martin was notified by town officials that the Rec Center in Van Buren had been broken into.  The crime was noticed after the center re-opened on Monday.  It appeared that a television and play station had been stolen from the building.  The investigation is ongoing.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Martin met with a property owner in Van Buren after he had been having issues with former tenants of his property returning to the property without permission.  The property had been an apartment complex in the past and the new owner did not want the former tenants on the property. They were located by Tr. Martin and issued trespass warnings.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Martin met with a local man in Van Buren after he had discovered that the catalytic converter had been stolen from a vehicle parked on a farmer’s property.  It was unclear when the item had been stolen, but the investigation into the theft is ongoing.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Martin, Tr. Levesque, and Recruit Denver Roy responded to a St. Francis residence when neighbors reported hearing some arguing between people and then a gunshot shortly after.  The owners of the property were located, and it appeared that the argument had been between their son and some people that had been allowed to stay on the property.  The people involved in the incident were not co-operative and little information was able to be learned as to what had actually transpired at the incident, but it did not appear that anyone was injured.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Martin and Recruit Roy stopped a local man for having a defective headlight.  While conducting the roadside investigation, they learned that the man was out on bail conditions and one of those conditions was that he was subject to a curfew.  The man was out past his curfew hour and was summoned to Fort Kent District court for violating his conditions of release.

    Brief Synopsis:       Sgt. Haines spent the week of August 9 as a Firearms Instructor in Augusta for the Maine State Police range week.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Curtin responded to a traffic complaint at Wisdom High School reference to a “derby” car that was operating erratically through the parking lot before breaking down.  Tr. Curtin arrived within minutes of the call coming in and observed a pickup truck pulling up to vehicle.  As a result of his investigation, Tr. Curtin arrested the 29-year old Saint Agatha man for OUI.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Merchant stopped a vehicle in Monticello for a traffic violation.  As a result of the stop, she arrested the operator, a 40-year-old Mars Hill man on a Failure to Appear warrant.  The man was transported to the Troop F Barracks where he was bailed and released. 

  • Troop G Weekly Report - 08/09/2021 - 08/15/2021

    On 08/09/2021, Tr. Keim stopped Rodney Kennebrew of Lewiston for traveling 77 MPH in a posted 45 MPH zone on Rt 9 in Sabattus.  

    On 08/11/2021, at approximately 0030 hours, Sgt. Duda attempted to pull over a speeding vehicle in the construction zone northbound near mile marker 46. The vehicle failed to stop, and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle continued northbound to exit 53 where it then sped up and began operating unsafely. Sgt. Duda terminated the pursuit. A short while later Windham and Falmouth Police located the vehicle and attempted to stop it. The vehicle fled into Westbrook where it went off the road and crashed into several trees. The male operator, Justin Ellsmore (39) of Cumberland was uninjured and taken into custody by officers on scene. Sgt. Duda responded to the scene and took custody of Ellsmore. Ellsmore was ultimately charged with operating under the influence and eluding.

    On 08/11/2021, Cpl. Cropper attempted to stop a black Mercedes sedan with a NH Temp registration that passed him at the MM 72 crossover southbound at 122 MPH. A pursuit ensued and speeds reached over 130 MPH. The pursuit was called off at MM 55. The vehicle continued southbound and exited at 53. The investigation to identify the operator is ongoing.

    On 08/11/2021, Cpl. Cote stopped Chanita Verse (27) of Cheektowaga, NY on the ME Turnpike southbound in Wells.  Her privilege to operate in ME was found to be Suspended.  She was charged with Operating after Suspension.

    On 08/11/2021, Cpl. Cote stopped Matthew Babb (22) of Limerick on I-295 northbound in Portland.  His ME license was found to be suspended.  He was charged with Operating after Suspension and Possession of a Suspended License.  His vehicle was towed away.

    On 08/13/2021, Lt. Zabarsky, Sgt. Burton, Cpl. Cropper, and Tr. Keim responded to MM 66 northbound for a single vehicle rollover with ejection. The 17-year-old female driver, on a permit, was pinned under the vehicle. The 23-year-old passenger, also on a permit, was injured as well. Both the driver and passenger were transported to CMMC in Lewiston and then the 17-year-old driver was Life Flighted to MMC in Portland for pediatric care. The CMMC doctor advised that the driver was critical, but the injuries were survivable.

    On 08/13/2021, Cpl. Physic summonsed Collin Gayheart for Criminal Speed.

    On 08/14/2021, Tr. MacKinnon stopped Imanuela Costiner (37) of Watertown, MA at MM 9 northbound in York for traveling 101 MPH. Costiner was summonsed for the speed and several other traffic violations.

    On 08/15/2021, at approximately 0600 hours, Tr. LiBritz was running laser when she stopped a vehicle near mile 60 southbound for speeding 96 MPH in a posted 70 MPH zone. Upon further investigation the driver, Patrick Chamberland (28) of Parsonsfield, was on two sets of conditions of release and had an active warrant for failure to appear. He was issued a summons for speed and no insurance and was arrested on the warrant. Tr. Davis assisted with the three other occupants who did not have a license and the vehicle was towed.

    On 08/15/2021, Cpl. Cote stopped Jason Hesketh (34) of Lewiston on the Exit 63 departing ramp on the ME Turnpike southbound in Gray.  His ME driver’s license was found to be suspended.  He was charged with Operating after Suspension and his vehicle was towed away.

    On 08/15/2021, Tr. Keim stopped Kevin Overlock of Windham for speeding.  Overlock was traveling 103 MPH in a posted 70 MPH zone on his Harley Davidson motorcycle.

    This past week, Cpl. Physic taught Racial and Implicit Bias/A History of Racism at the SRO SUMMIT that was attended by school administrators, assistant district attorneys, school resource officers, and juvenile correction officers.

  • Lebanon Fatal

    On Aug. 18, 2021, at approximately 6:50 a.m., Troopers responded to a report of a single vehicle crash off the road on Rt. 202 in Lebanon.  Troopers learned that the vehicle was operated by 22-year-old Nathan Celley of Springvale, who was the only occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash.  Mr. Celley did not survive the crash and speed was likely the cause of the crash. Maine State Police extend their condolences to family and friends of Mt. Celley during this difficult time.

    08-17-21

    Corporal Jeffrey Taylor investigated a property damage complaint on Cottage Street in Milbridge where a mailbox was struck by a vehicle who fled the scene. As result of the investigation, Jonathan Armitage (23) of Jonesboro was summonsed for Criminal Mischief.

    Trooper Jarid Leonard investigated a fatal motorcycle crash in Milbridge on the Cherryfield Stretch. The motorcycle was passing traffic in the oncoming lane when he struck a turning trash truck. Dwain Beal (68) of Milbridge was the operator of the trash truck. He did not sustain injuries in the crash. Elwood Davenport (61) of Gouldsboro was the operator of the motorcycle and later died as a result of his injuries. Drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the crash. Assisting on scene was the Maine State Police Traffic Safety Division, Epping Fire Department, Life Flight, Cherryfield Ambulance, and other citizens that arrived on scene to help.

    Trooper Kim Sawyer summonsed Patrick Dow (18) of Calais for theft of a kayak on 08-21-21 in Calais.

  • Troop G Weekly Report - 08/16/2021 - 08/22/2021

    On 08/16/2021, Cpl. Cloutier checked on an unattended motor vehicle near the New Gloucester tolls that was stolen out of Biddeford. Biddeford PD did not want to process the MV. The RO was contacted and made arrangements to remove it from the Turnpike.

    On 08/17/2021, Sgt. Duda clocked a vehicle traveling 130 MPH in the posted 60 MPH speed zone southbound in South Portland. The male operator, Zeidan Khaled Al Akash (19) of Portland, stated he was trying out his new Dodge Charger. Al Akash had two male passengers with him as well. Al Akash was arrested and charged with exceeding the speed limit by 30 MPH or more. His vehicle was towed from the Turnpike.

    On 08/17/2021, Cpl. Cote stopped Krystal Wildes (30) of Portland on the ME Turnpike northbound in Portland.  Her ME driver’s license was found to be suspended.  She was charged with Operating after Suspension and her vehicle was towed away.

    On 08/17/2021, Cpl. Cote stopped Travell Malik Hickman (25) of Lincoln Park, MI on the ME Turnpike southbound in Gray.  His Michigan driver’s license was found to be suspended.  He was charged with Operating Without a License and the licensed passenger drove the vehicle away.

    On 08/18/2021, Cpl. Physic summonsed Kaine Sheehan for Criminal Speed during the morning commute.

    On 08/18/2021, Cpl. Cote stopped Bradley Byther (47) of Scarborough on Alfred Street in Biddeford.  His ME driver’s license was found to be suspended.  He was charged with Operating after Suspension and was picked up at the scene by a family member.

    On 08/20/2021, Tr. Keim stopped Alyssa Penney (24) of Portland for operating with an expired registration.  After further investigation, Tr. Keim obtained information that the registration was suspended for failing to pay tolls.  Penney’s driver’s license was suspended, and she was also on bail conditions.  Penney was charged with operating a vehicle with a suspended registration, operating while license was suspended, and violation of conditions of release.

    On 08/22/2021, Cpl. Cote stopped Thomas Baillargeon (41) of Biddeford on the ME Turnpike southbound in Scarborough.  His ME driver’s license was found to be suspended.  He was charged with Operating after Suspension and a licensed passenger drove the vehicle away.

    On 08/22/2021, Cpl. Cote stopped Benjamin Trefethen (20) of Portland on the ME Turnpike southbound in Scarborough.  His vehicle did not have tags on it and it was found that it had never been registered since he purchased it privately weeks prior.  He was charged with Failing to Register Motor Vehicle and it was towed away.

    On 08/22/2021, at approximately 0130 hours, Sgt. Duda, Cpl. Cote, and Tr. Darcy assisted Cpl. Casey of Troop B with a wrong way driver on I-295. The driver ultimately crashed head on with another vehicle. Troopers arrived to a chaotic crash scene with multiple injuries, one of which was critical. Troop G Troopers assisted Cpl. Casey in collecting evidence and conducting interviews on scene and at Maine Medical Center. Tr. Dunn assisted with reconstruction. Charges are pending for the wrong way operator.

    Tpr. Darcy stopped a female traveling 114 MPH northbound on the turnpike in Arundel. She was issued a VSAC for speed.

    Tpr. Darcy charged Erica Wilson (37) of MA with Operating after Suspension as the result of a traffic stop northbound on the turnpike in Wells.

    Trooper Josh Lander responded to a crash in Aurora where the operator, Kelsey Jones (23) of Osborn, was arrested for Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol.  Trooper Cliff Peterson and Trooper Owen Reed assisted. 

    Trooper Miles Carpenter summonsed Nathaniel Lingley (20) of Pembroke for Criminal Mischief.

  • Troop G Weekly Report - 08/23/2021 - 08/29/2021

    On 08/25/2021, Lt. Baker stopped James R. Coffee of Staten Island, NY for 102 MPH in Auburn.  He was charged accordingly.

    On 08/25/2021, Tr. Keim stopped James Childs (32) of Standish for speeding in New Gloucester. He was Revoked Habitual Offender. Childs was summonsed for speeding and HO.

    On 08/25/2021, Cpl. Darcy stopped a vehicle traveling 123 MPH southbound on the Turnpike in Wells. The 19-year-old male driver from MA was charged with Criminal Speed.

    On 08/26/2021, Tr. Keim stopped Jacson Blais (21) of Skowhegan for criminal speed in Litchfield. He was summonsed for speed.

    On 08/26/2021, Cpl. Physic summonsed Michael McElhinney for Criminal Speed.

    On 08/27/2021, Cpl. Physic arrested Caleb Richard for OUI-Drugs.  Specialist Allen conducted the drug evaluation and confirmed the impairment.  Caleb was charged accordingly.

    On 08/27/2021, Tr. Loder stopped a TT-unit in Kennebunk for operating in the left lane in the 3-lane section of Turnpike.  The driver had a Florida license but was suspended in New York and was therefore a disqualified driver.  Tr. Northrup responded to the scene to address this violation and subsequently discovered the driver had no logbook as required.

    On 08/27/2021, Tr. Loder stopped a white Jeep southbound in Wells and arrested the operator, James T. Murphy (61) of Florida, for OUI-Alcohol.  Tr. Loder transported Murphy to the Wells Police Department where he submitted to a breath test and blew above the legal limit.

    On 08/29/2021, Cpl. Cote stopped Cyndi Lee Boucher-Lahhoud (62) of Framingham, MA on the ME Turnpike southbound in Kennebunk.  Her MA driver’s license was found to be suspended.  She was charged with Operating after Suspension and her vehicle was moved into the nearby service plaza parking lot.

    On 08/29/2021, Cpl. Cote stopped Patrick McNamara (35) of Porter on the ME Turnpike northbound in Kennebunk for traveling 104 MPH in a posted 70 MPH zone.  He was charged with Criminal Speed.

    On 08/29/2021, Cpl. Darcy and Tpr. Mackinnon responded to the rest area in Kittery for a report of a suicidal female. Kittery PD located the female who was voluntarily transported to the hospital for an evaluation.
