    Trooper Kim Sawyer received a report from Charlotte that someone had used credit card information and created a PayPal account and made a bunch of charges. 

    05-27-21

    Trooper Owen Reed summonsed Earl Awalt (50) of Ellsworth, for Operating after Suspension after a traffic stop in Sullivan.

    5-28-21

    Trooper Kim Sawyer received a complaint for a suspicious male peeking in windows and hanging around Mahar St in Calais.  Trooper Kim Sawyer and Deputy Bill White were unable to locate the male.

    Corporal Jeff Taylor summonsed Nicole Rezendes (32) of Harrington, for Theft after responding to a shoplifting complaint in Harrington where alcohol was reported stolen.  Rezendes was also given a criminal trespass notice not to return to the Dollar General.

    5-29-21

    Trooper Travis Chapman stopped a vehicle for speeding on Acadia Highway in Orland. As a result of the stop the juvenile operator of Orland was summonsed for Operating Without a License

  • Troop E Weekly Report

    On May 29, 2021, A report of an erratic vehicle was reported near the northbound 220-mile marker. East Millinocket Police Sgt. Patty McLaughlin located the suspect vehicle. Peter Harding of Medway was the operator. A DRE evaluation was conducted. Peter consented to a urine sample. Individually packaged heroin packs and crack cocaine fell from Peter’s pants. He was transported to PCJ and charged with Trafficking. The jail was requested to thoroughly search Peter. Xanax bars were located in Peter. Peter claimed none of the drugs were his because the car he was driving was not his.  

    On May 29, 2021, Tr. Haverly-Johndro responded to Carmel for a reported car versus tree.  Upon arriving on scene, it was deemed the male subject, Ethan Lyons of Skowhegan had minor injuries.  Tr. Haverly-Johndro observed the male subject be exhibiting signs of intoxication.  Further investigation revealed the male subject was under the influence of alcohol and anti-depressant medications.  A Roadside blood draw was performed by EMS at the operator’s consent.  Tr. Haverly-Johndro summonsed Ethan for OUI and operating after suspension.  Ethan was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center for his injuries.  

    May 28, 2021 - Tr. Bragan conducted a traffic stop on a white Ford Explorer on Route 15 in Corinth. Tr. Bragan identified the operator, based on prior contacts, as Kennith Greene. Tr. Bragan ran a driver’s license check on Kenneth to learn that he had two active arrest warrants for theft. Kennith was placed under arrest and transported to the Penobscot County Jail.

    On May 28, 2021, Cpl. Coover stopped Chance Ball, 31, of New Mexico, for speeding 81/55 construction zone.  Chance vehicle was towed, and he was charged with speed and Operating after Revoked.

    On May 28, 2021, Sgt. Turcotte charged Heidi Davis, 54, of Kenduskeag, with Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, OAS, and Attaching False Plates after stopping her on Hogan Road in Bangor.  

    On May 28, 2021, Sgt. Turcotte charged Kate Tripodi, 37, of Vermont, with Unlawful Possession of Heroin after stopping a vehicle she was a passenger in on I-95.  

    On May 27, Tr. Yankowsky was dispatched to Lagrange concerning a theft of motor vehicle parts.  The complainant who stated that Arthur Lloyd, 34, had taken the catalytic converter off her pickup.  After the investigation, Lloyd was charged with Theft.

    On May 27, 2021, Tr. Ramp was dispatched to a burglary on Main Rd.  Tr. Ramp responded to the residence and the owner had video footage of a male and female pulling into the driveway.  They proceeded to get out of the vehicle and the male is seen walking to the barn and coming out with a weed whacker.  They put the weed whacker in the car and leave.  Tr. Ramp located the vehicle a few miles down the road at a camper.  Tr. Ramp questioned Charles Michaud and Andrea Colbath about the theft.  As a result of the investigation Tr. Ramp charged Charles with burglary and theft by unauthorized taking or transfer.  

    On May 27, 2021, Tr. Gould stopped a vehicle on I-95 NB for a seatbelt violation.  Numerous criminal indicators were observed.  Casey White, Jacob Whitcomb and Davine Buzzell were all determined to be on bail conditions.  A subsequent vehicle search revealed numerous items of paraphernalia. Keet was deployed on the interior of the vehicle and gave a positive alert.  Tr. Beaudoin conducted a search of both White and Buzzell and located a baggie of suspected Xanax pills.  White was summoned for a seatbelt violation and Buzzell was summonsed for violation of conditions of release.

    On May 26, 2021, Sgt. Turcotte stopped three motorists for criminal speed in the construction zone on I-95 in the Hampden area.  All were cited.

    On May 26, 2021, Tr. Foley stopped TRAVIS JANVRIN (31) for operating at excessive speed and making multiple unlawful passes on Route 2 in Carmel. JANVRIN was riding a motorcycle and did not have a motorcycle endorsement on his license. During the investigation, JANVRIN attempted to get back onto the motorcycle after learning that it was being towed. JANVRIN was arrested for resisting/delaying as well as driving to endanger charges and operating without a license.

    On May 25, 2021, Tr. Gould stopped a vehicle on I-95 southbound for an inspection violation.  Aryn Osnoe was identified as a passenger.  Osnoe had a warrant for failing to appear.  She was arrested without incident.

    On May 25, 2021, Cpl. Fiske responded to a camp on Cold Stream in Enfield, owned by Ashleigh McDonald.  McDonald reported that the former owner, David Pease (70), had returned to the camp and smashed all of the windows out of the boathouse. As a result of the investigation, Pease was located a short time later and summoned for criminal mischief.  

    On May 24, 2021, Tr. Ramp was dispatched to a theft of 2 mailboxes.  Cynthia Jarvis called in reporting 2 mailboxes were stolen. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information should call 207-973-3700 x9.

    On May 24, 2021, Cpl. Fiske and Tr. Gould responded to three separate moose crashes between miles 214 and 220 of I-95 all occurring within minutes of each other.  There were four different cars involved in the crashes with several people transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  

    On May 24, 2021, Tr. Gould and K9 Keet were requested for a K9 sniff for Old Town PD.  Old Town PD had seized a safe and several plastic containers containing suspected cutting agents, along with almost $17,000 cash during a drug investigation.  A K9 was requested to further establish probable cause for further search warrants.  The safe and containers were setup in an open garage and Keet was deployed.  Keet gave a positive alert to both the containers and safe.

    On May 21, 2021, Tr. Beaudoin received a call from Qualtek reporting a wire theft from their lot at 45 Mill St. in Corinna. After some investigation, the stolen wire was located at Newport Metals and was found to have been scraped by ADAM HAFFORD. HAFFORD committed a series of thefts at the Qualtek lot over the course of three days. HAFFORD was located on May 28 and was charged with theft (class C), theft (Class D for Tr. Foley’s case), two counts of VCR, criminal mischief (class D), and criminal trespass (class E).

    On May 23, 2021, Ana Lopez and Natanael Tirado-Rodriguez of New Hampshire, stole a Duromax generator from a residence residence. The owners were home at the time of the theft. One of the owners confronted Ana and Natanael before the two sped off. Cpl. Chris Hashey located the pair Stillwater Ave. at the Orono/Bangor town line. Ana and Natanael claimed they gave $800 to Tammy Lee and Mike Handy to purchase the generator. The Fosters said Tammy and Mike did not have permission to sell the generator. Ana and Natanael were charged with Theft by Unauthorized Taking.
     

  • New Vineyard Death

    On Tuesday, June 1st, 2021 at approximately 10:49am the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a male individual reporting his vehicle submerged in a pond and requesting medical assistance for he and his wife.  Upon their arrival, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office made contact with the male individual and found the female lying on the shore of the pond and she was determined to be deceased by first responders.  The male was transported to the Franklin Memorial Hospital.  The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department called the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit – South to assist with the investigation.  

    The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit - South remain on-scene at this hour collaborating and are expected to continue the investigation into the coming days.  Crime scene technicians and analysts from the Maine State Police Evidence Response Team and Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit are processing the scene at this time.  The Maine State Police Dive Team and Troopers from Troop C are also assisting with the investigation.

    The Office of Chief Medical Examiner is expected to conduct a post-mortem examination on the deceased individual in the coming days.  
     

  • Troop G Weekly Report 05/24/2021 - 05/30/2021

    On 05/25/2021, Tr. Darcy charged Richard Earles-Mitchell of Portland with OAS as the result of a traffic stop by the Biddeford Tolls.

    On 05/27/2021, at approximately 0035 hours, Tr. LiBritz and Cpl. Physic responded to a vehicle fire at mile 38 southbound. A tractor trailer unit hauling a flatbed with two tractors was traveling south when the brakes heated up and caught on fire. The driver was able to pull over and disconnect from the trailer before it became fully engulfed. Lanes 2 and 3 were shut down for traffic control while the fire department put out the fire. No one was injured.

     

    On 05/27/2021, Sgt. Pappas summonsed Robert True for OAS.

    On 05/28/2021, Cpl. Physic summonsed Rehema Lunjwire for Criminal Speed for going 104 MPH in a 70 MPH zone.

    On 05/28/2021, Tr. Keim arrested Marissa Irwin (32) of Carmel, ME for operating under the influence of intoxicating liquor.  Irwin tested above the legal limit.

    On 05/31/2021, Cpl. Cropper was stationary southbound in the MM 20.4 cross in Wells. Cpl. Cropper observed a vehicle southbound and obtained a speed of 100 mph. After the vehicle passed it departed at Exit 19 and was failing to stop. The vehicle turned west on Rt. 109, drove up onto the divider, and crashed into a traffic sign. The vehicle then got back into the roadway and took off. The vehicle continued towards Sanford and then turned east onto Route 9A. A license plate was obtained and then the chase was shut down. Cpl. Cropper returned to the downed traffic sign to remove it from the road. Cpl. Cropper then heard Wells PD run the offending vehicle’s plate. The vehicle arrived at the scene of an alleged assault on the Burnt Mill Rd. Wells PD was already on scene and detained the operator, Shania M. Cetina (24) of Lisbon until Cpl. Cropper arrived. Cetina was arrested for Revoked/HO class D and Eluding class C and was transported to YCJ.

    On 05/31/2021, Sgt. Wilkinson was fueling up at the Rusty Lantern on Congress Street by Troop G. The store clerk advised Sgt. Wilkinson of a vehicle whose driver/occupants appeared to be intoxicated. Sgt. Wilkinson observed the pickup pull into a gas pump. The pickup was driving on the right front rim that had no tread left on it. After making contact with the male operator and conducting SFST’s, Sgt. Wilkinson arrested and charged him with OUI. The test results were over the legal limit.

  • New Vineyard Death Update

    This is an update of the New Vineyard Death investigation.

    On Tuesday, June 1st, 2021 at approximately 10:49am the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a male individual reporting his vehicle submerged in a pond and requesting medical assistance for he and his wife.  Upon their arrival, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office made contact with the male individual and found the female lying on the shore of the pond and she was determined to be deceased by first responders.  The male was transported to the Franklin Memorial Hospital and later released.  The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department called the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit – South to assist with the investigation.  The female victim was identified as 43 year old Collette Daggett and the male was identified as 42 year old Wilfred Daggett.  The two were married and lived together in New Vineyard.  

    The Office of Chief Medical Examiner began a post-mortem examination on Collette Daggett on Wednesday.  The details from the post mortem exam are not being released at this time.

    Detectives from the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit – South continue to interview witnesses and family regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident.  
     

  • Brewer man charged in infant son’s death

    On Thursday, June 3, 2021, Maine State Police arrested 36-year-old Ronald Harding of Brewer. Harding is charged with manslaughter in the death of his 6-week-old infant son. 

    On Monday, May 31, 2021, Harding called 911 to report that his son was unresponsive and not breathing.
    The child was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in critical condition. He was pronounced dead on Tuesday, June 1, 2021.

    An autopsy performed by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner revealed that the infant died from inflicted injuries.

    Ronald Harding was arrested at the Brewer Police Department and taken to the Penobscot County Jail.  

  • Suspicious vehicle complaint in Levant unfounded

    On Thursday, June 3, 2021, Maine State Police received a complaint about a suspicious vehicle that was parked on South Levant Rd. in Levant at around 4:30 pm.

    The caller stated that a dark-colored SUV had stopped to speak with a juvenile. A white van was also reported to be at that location at the time.

    Maine State Police identified and made contact with the individuals and after further investigation concluded the complaint was unfounded. There was no criminal conduct and there was never a threat to the public.
     

  • Silver Alert: Peter Bang - Located Safely

    Bang photoUPDATE: Mr. Bang was located safely.

    The Maine State Police has issued a Silver Alert for Peter Bang, 83, who was last seen at 12:04 PM, June 5, 2021 in Lincolnville. Bang was walking on the Bayview Trail in Lincolnville when he separated from the person he was with. Bang is white male, 6’00”, 178 lbs, with blonde hair and blue eyes.

    Bang was last seen wearing a long sleeve red plaid shirt and gray joggers that say Bailey on them. Bang suffers from advanced dementia and recently has experienced shortness of breath.

    Maine State Police and Maine Game Wardens are actively searching the area for Bang.

    Anyone who sees Peter Bang should call 911 or 207.624.7076.

  • Troop B Weekly Report 05/10/21-05/16/21

    On 05/14/2021, Troopers James and Stewart responded to a tractor trailer unit at mile 16 south in Yarmouth which was dumping diesel fuel into the roadway. The driver, Leonardo Machado of Massachusetts, stated he ran over something at mile 17 which punctured his fuel tank. Maine DEP, DOT and Yarmouth Fire also assisted in the fuel clean-up. The travel lane was closed for several hours during the morning commute.

    Maine State Police arrest St. Albans man on multiple charges after driving through I-295 Construction Zone. On Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at approximately 10pm Sergeant Christopher Farley was stationed in his cruiser at Exit 5 in Portland on Interstate 295. The lane was closed due to construction. Sgt. Farley, with his blue lights activated, observed a vehicle drive past him and attempt to take the exit that was closed. The vehicle drove around the cones that were blocking the exit. A construction worker was in the area as the vehicle turned into the lane closure and started down the exit where additional crew members were working. Sgt. Farley was able to stop the vehicle before the driver reaching the workers. Fortunately, no one was injured. After a brief investigation, it was determined the driver, Joseph Simonet (36) of St. Albans, was driving under the influence. He was arrested and charged with Operating Under the Influence, Driving to Endanger, and other civil traffic violations. He was transported to the South Portland Police Department and was released on bail. Due to the inherent dangers of work zones, law enforcement officers are often utilized in construction zones to deter risky or unsafe driving and keep workers and the public safe. Maine State Police would like to remind the public to slow down and use caution in construction zones.

    On 04/27/2021, Trooper Nadeau stopped Blake Sandelin (39), on Route 202 in Greene for speed and erratic operation. Blake was found to be impaired and had several empty twisted teas from a cold six pack. Blake was out on bail and could not consume or possess alcohol. Blake was arrested for OUI, Felony VCR and Driving to Endanger. Once at the jail Blake refused to cooperate with COVID guidelines for the intox. Blake refused Intoxilyzer.

    On 05/16/2021, Trooper Pyburn and Corporal Russell responded to Western Ave in Paris, for a report of a disturbance and possible DV incident. Troopers arrived on scene first and made contact with ANNA and JAMES PIERCE. During the course of the investigation it was determined both parties were heavily intoxicated. JAMES was extremely disorderly and uncooperative. While Trooper Pyburn attempted to conduct a pat down of JAMES for weapons, a comment was made about a knife and JAMES began reaching for what Trooper Pyburn believed to be a weapon. An altercation ensued and JAMES was eventually placed into handcuffs. A knife was located on his person. While this was occurring, a 14-year old juvenile on scene began assaulting the Paris and Oxford Officers. The juvenile was subsequently detained. JAMES was transported to the Oxford County Jail where he was charged with Disorderly Conduct and Failure to Submit to Arrest.   

    On 05/12/2021, Trooper Watson stopped a vehicle with multiple defects on the Canton Point Rd. in Dixfield. The driver, Thomas Gilbert (51) was determined to be revoked. He was charged accordingly.

    On 05/12/2021, Trooper Watson stopped a vehicle with no inspection sticker and multiple defects on Rt. 108 in Peru. The operator, Heather Finnegan had a warrant for failure to appear and was also suspended. The passenger, Henry Ross had a significant history with drugs. A consent search in the vehicle yielded nothing criminal. It was noted that Ross’ prescription bottles were in the driver’s door panel. He most likely was driving when the couple had prior stopped at a convenience store to swap. Ross does not have a license and is most likely driving the vehicle around; a 2005 white Chevy 1500 (ME PC 859XT). Finnegan was arrested and transported to Rumford PD without incident. She was charged accordingly.

    On 05/12/2021, Trooper Watson saw a vehicle with multiple defects traveling south on Rt 26 near the Post Office. Tr. Watson started to catch up to the vehicle and briefly lost sight of it. It was then observed that it had made a quick right turn before the Hub and the driver was fleeing on foot. The driver, Michael Walker (44) attempted to skirt along a fence that abutted the inlet for the nearby pond. He ended up falling in and completely submerged himself. Tr. Watson helped him out then took him into custody. He was given a space blanket and some handwarmers until rescue arrived. The vehicle was towed, and Walker was charged accordingly for the incident.                     

    On 05/12/2021, Troopers responded to the Mallard Mart in West Paris. Oxford County advised their Deputy on scene had out of control subjects that were in a stolen motor vehicle. Once on scene, officers were able to de-escalate the situation. subsequent interviews were conducted. One of the subjects, Hannah Hairstrom (19) was determined to have a warrant. Two individuals were charged for the theft of the motor vehicle and arrested on outstanding warrants. Troopers assisted with transport to the Oxford County Jail without incident.

    On 5/13/2021, Trooper Willard stopped ME PC 7304XZ for a vehicle defect along Route 108 in Canton.  The operator Ray Henriksen of Rhode Island was operating on a suspended driver’s license.  He was charged accordingly.

    On 05/12/2021, Trooper Lemieux was traveling south on I-95 in Gray. At this time, he observed a Nissan quickly approaching from the rear. Tr. Lemieux saw the vehicle was traveling 109mph. The involved vehicle passed Tr. Lemieux in lane one. The vehicle was stopped, and the driver was identified as Jason Purington of Mechanic Falls. Purington noted he was late for an appointment. Purington was cited appropriately.
