  • Topsfield Fatal Crash

    Topsfield Fatal white truck with major front-end damage.Maine State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Topsfield.
     
    On January 14, 2021, at approximately 9:15 a.m., Maine State Police responded to a fatal crash on Route 1 in Topsfield involving a 2020 Peterbilt tractor-trailer, owned by C&C Trucking incorporated out of Lincoln, hauling logs and a 2009 Ford pick-up truck, owned by Bushwacker and Sons Logging incorporated out of Cary. The operator of the pick-up truck, Tyler Dwyer, 30, of Houlton, was deceased at the scene and a passenger of that truck was injured. The tractor-trailer was driven by Gregory Worster, 58, of Kingman. Worster was driving north and Dwyer was traveling south and the collision occurred in the northbound lane. Failure to maintain the proper lane and fatigue appear to be factors in this crash.

    Sergeant Jeffrey Ingemi responded as the primary investigator and was assisted at the scene by Corporal Chris Smith, Trooper Darren Vittum, Trooper Corey Smith, Trooper Josh Lander, Detective Jason Fowler, Border Patrol, Indian Township Police Department, and Houlton Police Department. A crash reconstruction and forensic mapping are being conducted.

    Princeton Fire Department, Danforth Fire Department, Calais and Danforth EMS, and Westerdahl’s Towing, The Department of Environmental Protection, and the Department of Transportation also assisted. The investigation continues.

    Corporal Daniel Ryan received a complaint of burglary at George Stevens Academy in Blue Hill. Vandalism to one classroom. Entry made through an unlocked door to the classroom.

    Trooper Jeffrey Taylor arrested Stuart Flaherty (40) of Steuben for Operating Under the Influence as result of a traffic stop on the Unionville Road in Steuben for a lane violation.

    Sergeant Jeff Ingemi responded to Princeton for a crash report where the operator had left the scene.  As a result of the investigation, Nicholas James (31) of Princeton, was summonsed for Failure to Report an Accident by Quickest Means.

    Trooper Kim Sawyer summonsed Jessica Francis (46) of Pleasant Point for Failure to Return to the Scene of an Accident after she reported a property damage crash on Route 1 in Robbinston.

     

     

  • Troop F Weekly Report 01-11 to 01-17-21

    Town:                        Van buren

    Trooper:                   Tr. Desrosier

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Desrosier and Tr. Rider were looking for a suspicious vehicle that they believed was being operated by a man with felony warrants.  While responding to the mental health crisis in Van Buren they passed the vehicle.  After clearing the mental health call, they located the vehicle at an apartment in Van Buren.  Tr. Desrosier spoke with the occupants of the truck, neither of which were the man with the warrants, and a male in the apartment.  Tr. Desrosier believed that the man gave a false name. Tr. Desrosier followed up with the case and located the man who was on bail that included 24/7 house arrest at a different address.  Tr. Desrosier and Tr. Rider located the man the following morning at the same apartment and arrested him.  The man was transported to ACJ.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Castonguay responded to a camp burglary that occurred in Island Falls.  The owner, who lives out of state, arrived and found that a door was open on his shed and a generator was missing.  The owner suspected a neighbor and had reached out to them.  Tr. Castonguay learned that the generator was left at the end of the driveway.  The owner did not want to pursue charges at this time but wanted it on file.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Rider responded to the McDonald Rd. in Castle Hill for a vehicle that was off the road.  The caller was a passerby and stated that there was no one with the vehicle.  When Tr. Rider arrived, the vehicle had been pulled out of the ditch by a tractor and was sitting in a driveway nearby.  Tr. Rider located the operator who had moved to Maine from Connecticut who stated that he was not familiar with the road.  The vehicle left the road and came to a rest in the trees.  Speed is a factor in the crash.  The man was also on bail conditions and was issues a summons for violation of conditions of release and failure to notify of accident by quickest means.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Barnard responded to Benedicta when a report was received from a couple who owned property in the area discovered that items from their property had been removed and they had located them nearby.  Tr. Barnard met with the property owners, and the investigation is active and ongoing.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Sylvia responded to an apartment complex in Littleton after a woman called to report she was being harassed by neighbors.  Investigation revealed no harassment was taking place, but the woman did have an active warrant for her arrest.  The 52-year old woman was placed under arrested without incident and transported to ACJ.

  • Troop G Weekly Report 01/11/2021 - 01/17/2021

    On 01/12/2021, Tr. Vanadestine received an erratic driving complaint on a pickup hauling a U-Haul trailer SB on I-95. Tr. Vanadestine pursued the pickup, eventually ramming the trailer in order to get the vehicle to stop before he killed other motorists in the area. The driver of the pickup, David Stoddard of Topsham, intentionally rammed a Lieutenant from Kittery PD who was in the crossover at MM 4.5, disabling his vehicle and ending the pursuit. Numerous Troopers and local police officers assisted in the pursuit and crash scene at MM 4.5.

    On 01/12/2021, Tr. Jarrett Mackinnon assisted with Tr. Lee Vanadestine’s vehicle pursuit that concluded at mile 4 southbound on the ME Turnpike in Kittery.

    On 01/12/2021, Cpl. Ricci Cote responded to and is currently investigating a double fatal crash involving two tractor trailer units and a passenger car on the ME Turnpike at mile 3.4 northbound in Kittery.  Both occupants of the passenger car were killed.  Many units assisted at the scene, in addition to Fire and Rescue personnel, and Turnpike Maintenance personnel.  Once the investigation is complete, a report will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review.

    On 01/14/2021, Sgt. Porter was notified that Mr. Kamau, who was operating a commercial MV delivering mail in a double fatal crash on the Turnpike in 2016, pled to Federal criminal charges. Kamau struck a passenger car in the rear pushing it underneath another tractor trailer unit. The driver of the car, as well as a 5-year-old passenger in the back seat, were killed.

    On 01/14/2021, Tr. Darcy took a report of a stolen license plate from a vehicle that was parked at the Biddeford Park N Ride. The investigation is ongoing.

    On 01/16/2021, Cpl. Physic was called to a rollover crash at Mile 30 in Arundel. One of the occupants, Shaun DiFrancesco, claimed he was the passenger in the vehicle, and that the driver had fled.  Fire Department members used a thermal imager and advised they could see a person in the woods.  Cpl. Physic and Cpl. Cote conducted a track with a K-9 from the Kennebunk Police Department but were unable to locate anyone. DiFrancesco had warrants for cases that stemmed from 2008 which were Criminal Mischief, Assault, and Domestic Violence Assault. Cpl. Physic arrested DiFrancesco on those warrants and took him to the York County Jail.  Sgt. Doughty, Sgt. Porter, and Tr. Welch also assisted. 

    On 01/17/2021, Cpl. Ricci Cote began an investigation of theft that occurred at the ME Turnpike northbound plaza in Gray at mile 57.  Someone pried open a game machine overnight and stole an undisclosed amount of cash.

    On 01/17/2021, Cpl. Physic received an erratic operation complaint. While Cpl. Physic was stationary waiting to see if the vehicle would come his way, he spotted a different vehicle traveling 101 MPH in a 50 MPH zone. Cpl. Physic pulled the vehicle over and contacted the driver, Frank Dushime. Dushime denied having anything to drink at all and said he had just come from work. Cpl. Physic put Dushime through field sobriety tests and placed him under arrest for OUI. Dushime was charged with Criminal Speed and OUI. Sgt. Doughty assisted.

  • Troop F Weekly Report 01-18 to 01-25-21

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Rider stopped a vehicle in Washburn for a traffic infraction.  Two of the vehicle occupants had warrants for their arrest.  Tr. Rider arrested the male and Tr. Kilcollins responded and arrested the female.  Both were transported to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton due to not being able to post bail.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Rider attempted to stop a vehicle in Woodland.  The vehicle sped up and turned into a private driveway.  An occupant from the vehicle then fled into the woods.  Tr. Desrosier arrived to assist Tr. Rider.  It was found that the man who fled into the woods was in violation of his current bail conditions.  The man was located by Tr. Rider and resisted arrest.  Tr. Rider secured the man in handcuffs and arrested for violating his conditions of release as well as refusing to submit to arrest.  He was transported to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton.

    Brief Synopsis:       Washburn PD attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic infraction but lost sight and could not find the truck.  Presque Isle PD located the vehicle in their town and chased the vehicle.  Eventually, the driver stopped and was arrested for OAS, false attachment of plates, eluding an officer, and other charges.  Sgt. Clark assisted in the traffic stop with Presque Isle PD.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Rider, as well as other Troopers in Troop F, have been searching for a man known to evade police that had several warrants for his arrest, one being domestic violence related.  Tr. Rider received information the man was at a residence in Woodland.  Tr. Rider and Tr. Kilcollins went to the residence and located the man inside.  The man tried to escape through a backdoor but there was a Deputy covering the back door and he was apprehended without further incident.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Castonguay has been investigating an assault that occurred between two men in Island Falls on January 13, 2021.  One of the men was intoxicated, assaulted the other man, and then said if the police were called, he would point a shotgun at the officer, even if it was not loaded, to force the Trooper to shoot him.  Tr. Castonguay was following a lead on his investigation and spotted the man driving.  The man was stopped and arrested without incident for violating his bail conditions and other charges.  He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail in Bangor.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Cotton met with a local man after he reported that an old vehicle he had purchased was missing.  The man had purchased the vehicle and left it at a rest area in Haynesville to have it towed after he had some mechanical problems with it.  When the wrecker operator arrived, the vehicle was gone.  The investigation is ongoing.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Mahon was monitoring traffic on Route 1 in Monticello when he recognized a vehicle from a previous encounter.  The registered owner and operator had a restricted driver’s license to only drive to and from work in Portland.  Tr. Mahon conducted a traffic stop in Houlton and charged the 34-year old Portland man with Operating Without a License.  The passenger had a valid driver’s license and took over driving the vehicle.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Saucier took a report from Southern Aroostook Community School of a vehicle that passed a stopped school bus.  Following Tr. Saucier’s investigation, he charged the 58-year old Island Falls man with Passing a Stopped School Bus with Lights Flashing.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Mahon arrested a 38-year old Castle Hill man on two outstanding warrants, one of which was a Domestic Violence charge reference an incident investigated by Troop F.

  • New Sharon Investigation

    On Monday, January 25, 2021, at approximately 9:40 a.m., Maine State Police Troopers from Troop C received a call to check the well-being of an individual on the Hovey Road in New Sharon.  Accompanied by a Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy the Trooper responded to the residence.  Upon their arrival, they discovered the adult bodies of one male and one female.  After conducting the post-mortem examinations on the deceased individuals Tuesday morning, the Office of Chief Medical Examiner identified this as a domestic violence homicide-suicide.  

    The victim is identified as 42-year-old Jessica Dapolito  (homicide). The suspect is identified as 55-year-old Robert Dapolito (suicide).  Both individuals died from gunshot wounds.  Crime scene technicians and analysts from the Maine State Police Evidence Response Team completed processing the crime scene on Monday evening. 

    Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit - South continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident.
     

  • Kingfield Stolen Credit Card

    Unidentified suspect wearing red banadanaMaine State Police out of Troop C are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying this man who is involved in using a stolen credit card. These photos are of the same individual on two separate days using the stolen card at the Dollar General in Kingfield.
