  • LEEDS INVESTIGATION

    Maine State Police have identified the body of a man found on the side of the road on Saturday evening. The body was found off the Bernie Hartford Road by a couple on their ATV about 5 p.m. They notified the Androscoggin Sheriff’s Office and deputies soon asked State Police to assist in the investigation. An autopsy was performed at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta.

    He was identified as Nadi Hagi-Mohamed, 31, of Minnesota.

    08-22-19

    Trooper Caleb McGary conducted a bail check in Hancock where he summonsed Jeffrey Long (38) for Violation of Conditional Release after he was found to be in possession of dangerous weapons which was a violation.  Trooper Blaine Silk assisted. 

    Trooper Caleb McGary responded to a complaint of a woman crying in the roadway in Lamoine.   Upon arrival, it was found that Brittawny Jordan (30) of Dover-Foxcroft, was intoxicated and being loud and belligerent.  After several warnings, Jordan was arrested for Disorderly Conduct.  Hancock Sheriff Office assisted.

    Trooper Caleb McGary responded to Lamoine which Nathan Burke (38) of Bangor, was summonsed for Violation of Conditional Release after he was found to be in possession of alcohol and dangerous weapons.

    Trooper Dana Austin responded to a personal injury accident on Route 1 in Gouldsboro. Trooper Austin arrived on scene to find a vehicle with severe damage that had caught on fire. After an investigation, Jordan Gross (25) of Gouldsboro was summonsed for Operating Under the Influence and Operating After Suspension. Trooper Austin was assisted by Trooper Gavin Endre.

    Trooper Caleb McGary summonsed Christopher Coombs (25) of Sullivan, for Operating Without a License after a traffic stop in Hancock.

    Trooper Keith York responded to a crash in Jonesboro where the operator was reported to be unresponsive.  As a result of the investigation, Aaron O’Bannon (46) of Jonesboro, was summonsed for Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol, Operating After Suspension and Possession of Scheduled Drugs.  Sergeant Jeff Ingemi and Washington Sheriff Office assisted.

    08-31-19

    Trooper Owen Reed responded to a complaint in Deer Isle where two vehicles were moved with a fork lift on a private way in order to make room for a tractor trailer truck to pass by.  As a result of Trooper Reed’s investigation Elson Heanssler (67) of Deer Isle, was charged with Criminal Mischief.

    Trooper Owen Reed responded to a criminal mischief complaint in Blue Hill in which someone had damaged the baseball shack and attempted to gain entry to it.  Investigation continues. 

    Trooper Kim Sawyer arrested Misty Thurlow (32) and Phillip Kennard (36) both of Princeton for Violating Conditions of Release after receiving a noise complaint. 

    09-01-19

    Trooper Travis Chapman responded to a report of a single vehicle crash on the Bayside Road in Trenton. Passersby reported that two males were with the vehicle and appeared to be intoxicated. Trooper Chapman arrived on scene and determined that some criminal activity was ongoing. Further investigation revealed that the operator Franklin Avery (30) of Hermon was on probation. A search of the vehicle and the passenger Louis Lucas (33) of Baileyville revealed 53 needles, a baggie of suspected drugs and several other items of drug paraphernalia. Franklin and Louis were both arrested and transported to the Hancock County Jail

     

  • Troop F Weekly Report 08-26 to 09-02-19

    Brief Synopsis:       Cpl. Quint was conducting traffic enforcement in Bridgewater and stopped a vehicle for driving 95 mph in a posted 55 mph zone.  The man told Cpl. Quint he did not realize he was driving so fast and was on his way to work.  Cpl. Quint issued the man a criminal summons for the violation.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Martin was conducting traffic enforcement in Castle Hill.  He observed a vehicle committing a traffic infraction and conducted a stop.  During the stop, he discovered the registration plates attached to the vehicle were illegally attached.  Tr. Martin removed the plates and had the vehicle towed from the roadway.  The driver was issued a criminal summons for the violation.

    Brief Synopsis:       Sgt. Clark was conducting traffic enforcement in Littleton and stopped a vehicle for a traffic infraction.  During the stop, it was discovered the female driver had a suspended driver’s license and a suspended registration.  The registration was suspended for evasion of tolls.  Sgt. Clark issued the woman two criminal summons for the violations and had the vehicle towed from the roadway by York’s of Houlton Towing.

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Kilcollins was conducting traffic enforcement in Hodgdon.  He observed a vehicle speeding and displaying an expired inspection certificate.  Tr. Kilcollins stopped the vehicle and during the stop suspected the underage driver had consumed liquor, test results confirmed this in the resulting investigation

    Brief Synopsis:       Tr. Levesque was on patrol in Mars Hill when he observed a male he believed had an active warrant.  Tr. Levesque pulled over, ran the subject and confirmed he had an active warrant.  Tr. Levesque turned around and located the male and arrested him on the warrant.  During a search, Tr. Levesque discovered the male was in possession of methamphetamine.  The male was transported to the jail where he was booked on the warrant and charged with possession of schedule W drugs

    Brief Synopsis:       A male called HRCC to advise that there was a male subject down near the river in town yelling and hitting himself. Tr Cotton contacted the C1 and learned that he thought he knew the identity of the male and thought he was doing drugs. Tr Cotton heard a male subject yelling near the river and spoke to him. The male stated that he was excited because he was having good luck fishing. Tr Cotton told him he needed to be quiet because he was disrupting businesses’ in town. The male apologized and that he would pack up and leave.  A brief time later it was reported that  that this same male was outside of his residence yelling at himself, hitting himself, and was naked in public view. Tr Cotton arrived and arrested the male for disorderly conduct and transported him to Penobscot County Jail.

    Brief Synopsis:       The theft of a motor vehicle was reported to Tr. Casavant.  The vehicle was reported to be stolen from a residence in Monticello.  The owner of the vehicle was in custody at the local jail and had been storing his vehicle at another person’s home.  When the vehicle was found not to be at the residence, it was reported stolen by a third party.  The investigation is ongoing

    Trooper:                   Tr. Cotton

    Brief Synopsis:       On 09/01/2019 at approximately 1630 hours an off-duty fireman observed a red Ford Focus on its roof in the ditch on the River Road in Oakfield. The caller advised Houlton Dispatch that there was no one around the vehicle. Trooper Cotton investigated the crash and determined that the operator was traveling South on the River Road when they lost control of the motor vehicle and rolled the car over into the ditch. Trooper Cotton located the operator, who had returned the scene and determined that she was intoxicated. Trooper Cotton charged the operator with Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol (Class D) as well as failing to report a crash by the quickest means (Class E) The operator of the car was treated for minor injuries resulting from the crash at Houlton Regional Hospital and booked into the Aroostook County Jail.  

  • Troop D Weekly Incident Report

    Troop D weekly activities for time August 26th to September 1st 2019

    On 8/28/19 Tr. Martin stopped a vehicle for speed on Route 3 in the Palermo. The driver, Robert Peaslee (49) had a suspended license. He was summonsed for Operating after Suspension and released from the scene.

    On 8/29/19 Tr. Harrington stopped Brandon Larouche (42) of Jefferson for a loud exhaust on Route 17 in Chelsea. Signs of impairment were detected and Larouche displayed clues of impairment during field sobriety testing. Larouche was transported to Augusta PD for a breath test that indicated he was above the legal limit.  Larouche was transported to Kennebec County Jail and charged with OUI.

    On 8/31/19 Tr. Moore received a call for a theft of a camper at Crystal Falls in Chelsea.  Trenton Oliphant (48) of China, reported he owns the motorcycle instruction business at Crystal Falls and provides a camper for other instructors to sleep in while they are doing weekend classes.  A witness reported a truck drove off with the camper toward Windsor on either Wednesday or Thursday.  Tr. Moore put a file out for the camper.

    On 8/31/19 Tr. Moore stopped Heather Waldron-Nickels (44) of Bowdoinham, for speed on Rt 27 in Pittston.  Tr. Moore discovered the registration for Heather’s 2019 Silverado was suspended for toll violations.  Tr. Moore summonsed her and released her from the scene.

    On 8/31/19 Tr. Martin and Tr. Harrington stopped a vehicle for a loud exhaust on Route 3 in Palermo. As a result of the stop Tr. Harrington discovered the inspection sticker was fake. The driver Anthony Laney (20) was summonsed for Displaying a Fictitious Inspection Sticker and released from the scene.

    On 8/31/19 Cpl. Robinson stopped Forest Hisle (19) of Freedom on Route 137 in China for an expired inspection.  Forest was ultimately charged with Operating After License Suspension, Attaching False Plates and several traffic infractions.  A licensed driver came to retrieve him. 

    On 8/31/19 Sgt. Madore responded to 26 Tobey Road in China for a disorderly conduct complaint. Justin Hardesty (34) of China was arrested for a probation violation because he had been consuming alcohol in violation of his probation conditions.

    On 8/31/19 Cpl. Robinson responded to 46 Spruce Head Lane in Northport for a reported Domestic Violence Assault.  Richard Cornell (33) of Boston, fled out the back door prior to Law Enforcement arrival after assaulting his girlfriend.  Tr. Belanger and K9 Dallas responded for a track and Richard was located hiding in the woods a short time later.  Richard was arrested for Domestic Violence Assault and transported to the Waldo County Jail.     

    On 8/31/19 Tr. Dunn stopped Travis Boyer (21) of Smithfield, for a speed violation on I-295 in Richmond. Boyer was on several sets of bail conditions and a subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a bag with approx. 45 g of crack cocaine, 35 g of cocaine and 30 grams of meth in it. After further investigation, Rainier De Jesus Solano (30) of Pennsylvania, was arrested and charged with 1 count of Aggravated Trafficking and 2 counts of Trafficking. Boyer was summonsed for a bail violation and released. Tr. Peckham, Tr. Plourde, Tr. Lacoste and Tr. Bronson assisted with the stop.

    On 8/31/19 Tr. Peckham responded to Route 126 in Pittston for a report of a vehicle off the road with a male lying on the floor of the vehicle. Chad Trussell (38) of Jefferson was removed from the vehicle by Gardiner Rescue and transported to Maine General in Augusta. Trussell was highly intoxicated at the time of the crash, charges are pending hospital blood results.
     

  • Troop G Weekly Incident Report

    fentanylOn 08/26/19 Tpr. Williams arrested Lorie Nickerson (42) of East Dixfield for Unlawful Possession of Scheduled Drugs Class C following a traffic stop on I-95 in Biddeford.  During the investigation Nickerson attempted to destroy a bag of Fentanyl she had concealed.  

    On 08/27/19 Tpr. Williams arrested Adam Uldall (37) and Natasha Beckett (29) of Poland for Aggravated Trafficking in Scheduled Drugs Class A following a traffic stop in Wells.  During the course of the investigation Troopers Darcy and Wilkinson and K9 Pinny responded.  K9 Pinny alerted on Uldall and the vehicle for the presence of illegal drugs.  50 grams of Fentanyl was seized.

                                                               
    On 08/31/19 Tpr. Loder stopped a blue Camaro driven by Jonathan Spinelli (19) from Tewksbury, MA, going 100 MPH. Spinelli was summonsed for criminal speed.
    On 08/30/19 Tpr. Kelley summonsed Jon Dow (59) of Stockton Springs in West Gardiner for speeding, he was traveling 100mph in the 70mph zone.   
    On 08/27/19 Tpr. Darcy arrested Andrew Moore of Eastport on an active warrant for assault at the southbound Kennebunk service plaza.  Troopers Loder and Wilkinson assisted. 

    drugsTpr. Wilkinson and K9 Pinny were requested by Tpr. Williams to conduct a free air sniff of a vehicle and occupants that he had stopped on the Turnpike.  K9 Pinny indicated on the male passenger, showed interest on the female operator, and indicated on the exterior of the vehicle. The male passenger showed signs of drug impairment and the female operator admitted to using heroin inside the vehicle prior to the traffic stop.  A hand search was conducted, behind the glovebox were used needles, a crack pipe, etc.  Behind the bag of drug paraphernalia was 50 grams of fentanyl. 
     
    26 gramsTrp. Darcy charged a 60-year-old Livermore female with Unlawful Trafficking Schedule W Drugs as the result of a traffic stop northbound on the turnpike in Wells.  26 grams of crack cocaine and 3 grams of fentanyl was seized.  Sgt. Pappas, Tpr. Wilkinson, and Tpr. Williams assisted.
     
    On 09/01/19 Sgt. Pappas, Cpl. Schmidt, Troopers James and Flannigan, arrested 4 people for felony drug charges following a traffic stop in I-295.  One of the four was also a fugitive from South Carolina, wanted for robbery.  Seized was 200 grams of cocaine and 72 grams of fentanyl.  These drugs were going to be processed and spread throughout the mid coast area. 

    Tpr. Physic summonsed Adam Hughes for Criminal Speed for going 107mph in a 70mph zone.

    Tpr. Physic arrested Michal Doherty for OUI in Portland.  Sgt. Doughty assisted. 

    Sgt. Doughty stopped Reid Liberty (29) of Skowhegan for speeding.  Sgt. Doughty found that Liberty was operating after license suspension (Class E) and had two warrants for his arrest.  One warrant was for failure to appear on a domestic violence assault charge.  The other warrant was for failure to appear on two theft charges.  Liberty was taken to the Kennebec County Jail.  
     

  • Cherryfield Crash

    Maine State Police responded to Cherryfield to assist the Washington County Sheriff’s Department with a two vehicle personal injury crash on the Willey District Road in Cherryfield involving one of their cruisers.  Washington County Deputy Toni Bridges, 22 of East Machias, was travelling on the Willey District Road in Cherryfield towards Route 193 when a vehicle operated by Orlando Monge, 51 of Harrington, was headed the opposite direction and collided head on with Deputy Bridges.  Deputy Bridges was in full uniform and operating a 2018 fully marked Ford Explorer and was on routine patrol at the time and the cruiser sustained front end damage.  Monge was operating a red 1995 Chevy Camero which rolled and is considered a total loss.  Deputy Bridges and Monge were transported by ambulance to local hospitals for head injuries which were not life threatening.  Both operators were wearing seatbelts.  An accident reconstruction team was sent to the scene.  Trooper Caleb McGary is the primary investigator for the crash.  Evidence at the scene suggested alcohol use by Monge and a blood test for alcohol was obtained from both operators as is typical of a serious injury crash.  Possible criminal charges are pending.  Troopers on the scene were assisted by Washington SO, Hancock SO, Maine Marine Patrol, Milbridge PD, Gouldsboro PD, Cherryfield Fire Department and Cherryfield Ambulance.  Any witnesses to this crash should contact the Maine State Police for Trooper Caleb McGary at 207-973-3700.

  • MISSING LEWISTON MAN

    Stephen Brown, 53, of Lewiston

    Maine State Police and Lewiston Police are asking the public’s help in locating a Lewiston man who has been missing for over a week.  

     

    53-year-old Stephen Brown was last seen on August 26.  Brown lives at 96 Winter Street in Lewiston.  He is 5’9” tall, weighs 180 pounds with blue eyes and brown hair.

  • Sidney Crash

    Sidney Crash 1Multiple people were hospitalized with minor injuries after two vehicles collided Saturday morning in Sidney. 

    On Sept 7, 2019,at approximately 11:30 a.m., Michael Moore, 74, of Texas, was operating his 2017 white GMC pickup and hauling a travel trailer southbound on Interstate 95 near mile marker 120 in Sidney.  Moore advised that he was diabetic and had blacked out while driving.  Moore and his passenger/wife Susan Moore, 68, drifted over into the passing lane and collided with Janet Arthur, 60, from Tennessee, in her 2007 Infiniti.  The two vehicles went off the road into the median where the pickup truck and camper then rolled over the sedan and came to rest.  

    Sidney Crash 2Arthur’s passengers Linda Overvay, 55, and Barbera Knigge, 53, all from Tennessee, were transported to Augusta Maine General for minor injuries.  The Moores were also transported to Augusta for minor injuries and their two dogs were taking by the Animal Control Officer.  Multiple agencies responding to the scene and the passing lane was shut down for approximately 2 hours.

    Trooper Miles Carpenter summonsed Adam Cox (36) for Operating After Suspension following a motorcycle crash.

    Trooper Dana Austin stopped a motor vehicle in Dedham, as a result of the investigation, Amanda Newell (35) of Perry was summonsed for Possession of Schedule W drug.  Sergeant Jason Sattler assisted.

    Sergeant Jeff Ingemi summonsed Bryttani Ball (29) of Machias, for Operating a Vehicle with Improper Plates after a traffic stop in Machias.

    Trooper Dana Austin summonsed Benjamin Perry (39) of Cherryfield for Possession of drugs after a traffic stop in Milbridge. Trooper Miles Carpenter and the Washington County Sheriffs Office assisted.

    Trooper Dana Austin conducted a bail check on a female in Milbridge, as a result of the investigation, Samantha Polchies (30) of Sullivan was summonsed for Violation of Conditional Release.

    Trooper Dana Austin stopped a motor vehicle on Route 1A in Dedham, as a result of the investigation, Brandon Pettengill (46) of Orland was summonsed for Attaching False Plates.

    Trooper Kim Sawyer summonsed Carlton Downes (39) of Edmunds for Operating After Suspension, Class E after a traffic stop for speed in Calais.

     

  • Troop G Weekly Report

    Tpr. Cook stopped a vehicle at the Exit 67 toll plaza northbound in New Gloucester on a traffic complaint from Augusta dispatch.  The driver, Ahmat G Yassir (19), was found to be suspended (infraction/insurance). 

    On 09-08-19 Tpr. Kelley stopped Ryan Casey (33) of Portland in Gray for having an expired inspection sticker.  Casey was summonsed for inspection and OAS.  A licensed passenger in the vehicle took over driving. 

    60 GramsOn 09-07-19 Tpr. Williams arrested Wilfred LaValley (42) and Juan Soriano (20) of Lawrence, MA for Aggravated Trafficking of Scheduled Drugs Class A following a traffic stop in York.  Tpr. Duda and K9 Mack were called to assist.  K9 Mack alerted on the vehicle and LaValley for the presence of illegal narcotics.  During the investigation, it was learned that LaValley was concealing a bag of narcotics on his person, which LaValley disclosed to Troopers as being Cocaine HCL.  The substance weighed 60 grams and later tested positive for Fentanyl using TruNarc H-Kit.  Sgt. Field assisted on scene and with post-arrest interviews.
       
    Tpr. Darcy charged a 24-year-old male from New York, NY with Operating without a License and Operating with a Suspended Registration as the result of a traffic stop northbound on the turnpike in York.

    Tpr. Darcy stopped a vehicle northbound on the turnpike in York.  On the initial approach, Tpr. Darcy observed the male driver (35 years old, of Westbrook) chewing something.  Tpr. Darcy asked him to open his mouth and when he eventually did, a bag of suspected fentanyl was observed.  The male was ordered to spit out the bag which he did.  The suspect then grabbed the bag and ripped it with his teeth, causing the powder to go all over him and the 2019 rental vehicle.  Troopers Darcy and Williams were able to safely get the male out of the vehicle and detain him.  8 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 2 grams of suspected fentanyl was located on his person.  York Fire responded to decontaminate the male.  The Navy Fire Department responded from the shipyard to secure the vehicle and the clothing the male had been wearing as it was considered a HAZMAT scene.  The male was transported to York Hospital as he was suicidal.  Sgt. Doughty and Tpr. Libritz assisted at the scene.  Tpr. Darcy conducted a search warrant on the vehicle on 09-06-19 with two DEA agents who are lab certified.  The rental company advised that the vehicle was going to be crushed due to the suspected fentanyl contamination. 

    Tpr. Davis stopped Donald Leeman of Auburn traveling northbound on I-95 in Falmouth for a speeding violation.  Tpr. Davis checked the status of Leeman’s license and the reply from BMV indicated Leeman’s license was suspended for insurance.  Tpr. Davis issued Leeman a summons for operating after suspension.
    Tpr. Keim was following a tractor trailer north in the Scarborough area, when he observed the truck begin to float into the breakdown lane.  Tpr. Keim continued to follow the truck observing it go into the breakdown lane 3 more times.  Tpr. Keim then drove up alongside the truck and observed the cell phone of the driver mounted on the window close to the drivers’ door and could see that the driver was watching a video on his phone.  Tpr. Keim could see the GPS unit was mounted on the dash and the driver was not using the phone for directions.  Tpr. Keim stopped the truck and spoke with the driver, Timothy J. Matson of Connecticut, admitted to watching a video on his phone.  Matson was then summonsed for operating a cell phone while driving a commercial motor vehicle and failing to obey lane controls.

    Tpr. Keim stopped Cody Falton (22) of Saco for speeding 87mph in a 70mph zone.  After running a registration and license check, Tpr. Keim obtained information that Falton had two outstanding suspensions and the registration of the vehicle was also suspended.  Falton was summonsed for speeding, operating after suspension and operating a vehicle with a suspended registration.

    Tpr. Keim stopped Thatcher J. Cormier (19) of South Paris for speeding 83mph in a 70mph zone.  As Cormier passed Tpr. Keim, Tpr. Keim observed that Cormier was on his cell phone.  Cormier was summonsed for speeding, distracted driving and failing to register a motor vehicle.

    On 09-08-19 Tpr. MacKinnon was finishing up a traffic stop around mile 16 southbound when a pickup truck passed by in lane 3.  There were no other vehicles around.  The driver Victoria Anna Hampshire (59) of Maryland was summonsed for Failing to Move over for emergency vehicle.

    On 09-08-19 Sgt. Porter was working a construction detail around mile 47 northbound.  Sgt. Porter issued a tractor trailer driver, David Fongemie (50) of Saint David, a summons for speeding in a construction zone.
