I-95 Southbound in Plymouth Down to One Lane

From the Department of Public Safety:

Southbound traffic on I-95 in Plymouth, near Newport, is reduced to one lane while crews work to remove a tractor trailer that went off the road into the median last night.

Workers will be offloading the cargo of bagged potatoes and then the big rig will be removed. It is expected to take several hours.

Motorists are advised that slight delays are possible.

Speed Limit to be Lowered on I-295

Augusta - On March 27, 2017, the Maine Department of Transportation will be lowering the speed limit on Interstate 295 from Falmouth to Topsham from the current 70 mph to 65 mph.

Since the speed limit increase in 2014 from 65 mph to 70 mph, data shows that I-295 crashes increased by 29% in a two-year span between the year before (June 2013-May 2014) and the year after (June 2015-May 2016). During that same time period, traffic volumes increased by 6.4%.

Extra Noise Expected During Sarah Mildred Long Bridge Construction

Kittery ? As the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge replacement project continues, crews will be fracturing the pier on both sides of the river.

This process produces a loud sound that carries over the water. Businesses and residents can expect the fracturing to occur at the following times:

Thursday, March 9th at approximately 9:15 p.m.

Saturday, March 11th at approximately 11:00 a.m.

The new Sarah Mildred Long Bridge will be opened to traffic in September, 2017.

More Bridge Fracturing to Create Noise in Kittery

Kittery ? As the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge replacement project continues, crews will be fracturing the piers on both sides of the river.

This process produces a loud sound that carries over the water.

Due to daytime activities at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard on Monday (3/13) and the impending nor?easter arriving on Tuesday, the fracturing will take place early Tuesday morning at approximately 1:30 a.m.

Both the New Hampshire and Maine Departments of Transportation appreciate the public?s patience as the work continues toward the new bridge opening in September.

Road Work to Begin in Scarborough

Scarborough ? Crews will begin drainage and other road work in Scarborough and South Portland beginning on Monday, March 20th.

The project is located .03 of a mile north of Route 701 (Scarborough Connecter) and ends .03 of a mile south of Memory Lane in South Portland.

The project consists of utility improvement work including water and gas main installation. Other work includes the installation of a new drainage pipe, manholes and catch basins. Crews will also perform sidewalk improvements then milling and paving the roadway.

Traffic Signal and Sidewalk Improvements to Start in Winslow

Winslow ? Crews will be making traffic signal modifications, sidewalk and curb upgrades in Winslow beginning on Monday, April 10th.

The location of the work involves six intersections on Route 137, Route 32, Route 201/100 and Route 137B. The street names are Bay St./Halifax St., Augusta Rd./China Rd., Lithgow St./China Rd./Cushman Rd./Augusta Rd., Carter Memorial Dr./Cushman Rd./Carter Memorial Dr./Bay St.,/Clinton Ave./Benton Ave.

While there will be occasional lane closures, two-way traffic will be maintained.

Full Interchange Construction to Begin in Waterville

Waterville ? Construction activities will be taking place on I-95 in Waterville and Sidney beginning on Tuesday, April 11th.

This interchange construction project will be adding northbound and southbound on and off-ramps on I-95. The Trafton Road bridge girder will also be replaced and a new deck will be installed. Trafton Road, West River Road and Eight Rod Road will also be constructed.

Repairs to Take Place on Frank J. Wood Bridge

Topsham ? Crews will be repairing the Frank J. Wood Bridge that will include a lane closure beginning on Wednesday, April 19th.

All northbound traffic on the bridge into Topsham will be detoured from Route 1 to Route 196 back to Route 201.

Repairs include replacing the floor beams on span 1 on the bridge as well as continued preservation measures.

This northbound closure will end on April 24th.

Stetson & Watson of Holden will perform this $200,000 project.

Work to Begin on Penobscot Narrows Bridge

Prospect - The Penobscot Narrows Bridge, connecting Verona Island and Prospect over the Penobscot River, will have new pavement and waterproofing membrane installed between April 24 and June 6.

From April 24 to April 30, a single shoulder will be closed on the bridge. Between May 1 and May 19 traffic over the bridge will be reduced down to one lane of alternating traffic controlled by flaggers. Drivers using Route 1 and Route 174 will need to plan on delays of up to 3 minutes.
