Bridge Deck Replacement to Begin in Fairfield

Fairfield ? A $2 million bridge deck replacement project on the Western Avenue Bridge in Fairfield that carries Route 139 over I-95 begins in July. This project involves working 24 hours a day, seven days a week and includes long-term lane closures and detours.

The Western Avenue Bridge in Fairfield crosses over I-95 and will be temporarily closed to all traffic on July 7th from 9:30 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. During this time, crews will be lifting the bridge in order to install new bridge bearings. There will be a signed detour route during this time.

Bridge Painting to Begin in Portland

Portland - MaineDOT contractors will be painting bridges in the greater Portland area this summer for the next two to four months.

The first three bridges are the Deering Avenue Bridge over I-295 and the I-295 northbound and southbound bridges over Preble Street. The work involves removing the existing paint, and reapplying a new and improved paint system. To minimize impacts on traffic, most of this work will be performed overnight between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. at Deering Avenue, and between 7 p.m. and 7a.m. at Preble Street.

MaineDOT Receives $7.7 Million Grant Award for Further Infrastructure Improvements to the International Marine Terminal in Portland

Augusta ? Today, the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) was notified that the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) will award $7,719,173 in grant funding to the Maine Intermodal Port Productivity Project (MIPPP) for infrastructure improvements at the International Marine Terminal (IMT) in Portland.

Selective Cutting Along I-295 to Begin in Late July

Yarmouth ? Crews will be selectively cutting trees along I-295 in Yarmouth and Freeport beginning later this month.

Work will be on I-295 from mile marker 14 to mile marker 21 both north and southbound. While there will be no lane closures, this daytime operation may require the occasional closure of shoulders. Motorists are advised to stay alert and remain focused on their driving while traveling through a work zone.

Overnight Paving to Begin on I-295

Augusta ? Overnight paving will take place on I-295 through Brunswick, Freeport, Yarmouth, Cumberland and Falmouth beginning on Monday, July 18th.

Paving southbound on I-295 will begin at the southerly end of the Androscoggin River Bridge in Brunswick and extend 21.51 miles south to the Falmouth/Portland line.

Paving northbound on I-295 will begin at the Portland/Falmouth town line and extend 21.51 miles north to the Androscoggin River Bridge in Brunswick.

Overnight Milling Operations to Begin on I-95

Augusta ? Crews will be milling the pavement on I-95 in the Augusta area in the overnight hours beginning on Tuesday, July 19th.

The schedule is as follows:

Tuesday, July 19th:

Exit 112A off-ramp for Interstate 95 northbound will be closed for milling operations from 10 p.m. to 1a.m. Ramp may reopen early if possible. Once reopened, Exit 112B will be closed.

Exit 112B off-ramp for Interstate 95 northbound will be closed for milling operations from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. Ramp may reopen early if possible.

Route 191 Bridge in East Machias is Closed

East Machias ? The bridge that carries traffic over the East Machias River on Route 191 in East Machias has been closed.

The temporary bridge that is in place due to a bridge replacement project was struck by a vehicle this afternoon. MaineDOT engineers are evaluating the extent of damage and will keep the bridge closed until further notice.

Motorists will follow the approximately 40 mile signed detour route.

Notifications will be sent when the temporary bridge is back open to traffic.

Route 191 Bridge in East Machias is Back Open

East Machias ? The bridge that carries traffic over the East Machias River on Route 191 in East Machias is now open to traffic.

The temporary bridge that is in place due to a bridge replacement project was struck by a vehicle yesterday afternoon. Crews repaired that area of the bridge and have now deemed it safe for vehicles.

Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through the work zone.
