Northbound I-295 Bridge Work in Portland and South Portland

CUMBERLAND COUNTY - The Maine Department of Transportation will be making improvements to the northbound side of I-295 in Portland and South Portland. We will be repairing bridge joints on seven interstate bridges. This work will improve safety and mobility. The project area begins at the northbound I-295 bridge over State Route 703 in South Portland and extends north to the northbound I-295 bridge over Washington Avenue in Portland.

Work will begin on Monday, April 26th but is not expected to impact traffic until May 3rd. The project should be complete by the end of 2021.

Work on I-95 West of Bangor

PENOBSCOT AND SOMERSET COUNTIES - The Maine Department of Transportation is beginning work on a 13-mile-long stretch of I-95 in Palmyra, Etna, Newport, Plymouth, and Carmel. The construction will occur between exits 157 and 170. The project is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 3rd and will involve paving, bridge, and guardrail work on both the northbound and southbound sides of the interstate.

Traffic Sensor Work on Route 201 in Topsham

TOPSHAM - The Maine Department of Transportation will be working on traffic count sensors on U.S. 201 in Topsham on Monday, May 3rd. The work area will be northeast of Meadow Road. Work will begin at 8:00 a.m. and will be completed the same day. Traffic will be restricted to a single lane while work is being performed. Road sensors provide important information about the number of vehicles that utilize the roadway.

October Weekend Selected for Full Closure of I-295

PORTLAND - The Maine Department of Transportation will be closing I-295 over Veranda Street in Portland from 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22nd to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 25th. Veranda Street (under the bridge) will be closed from 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 18th to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 25th. These closures are being done to accommodate the replacement of the Veranda Street Bridge.

Bridge Work in Norway

NORWAY - The Maine Department of Transportation will be performing a deck replacement on the Pleasant Street Bridge, which carries Pleasant Street (Routes 117 and 118) across the Pennesseewassee Stream in Norway. Work is scheduled to begin on May 9th. Westbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane. Eastbound and pedestrian traffic will be detoured to Water Street. The contractor on this project is Scott Construction Corporation of Portland. Work is expected to be finished by the end of October. The contract amount in Norway is $828,862

Knox County Paving Projects Continue

KNOX COUNTY - The Maine Department of Transportation will be continuing paving work along Routes 73 and 131 in Knox County. Work began in 2020, started up again today, and should be finished by June 4th. Paving work on Route 73 begins at the Rockland town line and extends more than two miles south through Owls Head and into South Thomaston. The Route 131 project area begins at Port Clyde Road in Saint George and extends north for nearly ten miles through South Thomaston, ending at Route 1 in Thomaston. Work will occur during daytime hours.

Interstate Paving Resumes in Aroostook and Penobscot Counties

AROOSTOOK AND PENOBSCOT COUNTIES - The Maine Department of Transportation is beginning the second year of a two-year-long project that involves interstate paving operations in Aroostook and Penobscot Counties. Crews will be paving segments of the northbound side of I-95 (including some highway bridges and ramps) on a 13-mile-long stretch of interstate that begins just north of T2 R9 Wels and ends at the Herseytown Township line. MaineDOT will be paving and making other improvements to the Visitor Information Center in Medway and the Katahdin Scenic Overlook in T1 R6.

Twin Bridge Replacement in Hampden

HAMPDEN - The Maine Department of Transportation is replacing the Twin Bridge in Hampden. The bridge carries Route 69 over the West Branch of Souadabscook Stream.

The existing structure is 71 years old and needs to be replaced. The existing bridge spans 25 feet; the new structure will span more than 53 feet. This will provide more capacity for water flow as well as better habitat connectivity. The replacement bridge will be the first of its kind in Maine: it will use composite tub girders in a "Double T" configuration.

Hampden Bridge Bundle Lane Closures on I-95 Southbound

HAMPDEN - On Thursday, May 20th, the Maine Department of Transportation will begin periodic left lane closures on the southbound side of I-95 in Hampden between mile markers 180 and 176. These closures will occur primarily on weekdays. All traffic lanes will remain open on Memorial Day weekend. Closures will end on Friday, June 25th. These lane closures are necessary as crews continue to work on the Hampden Bridge Bundle Project.
