UPDATE: Because of this week's weather, the traffic shift is happening today - Thursday, October 15th.
HAMPDEN - The Maine Department of Transportation will be closing Emerson Mill Road to traffic at the I-95 bridges tonight as part of the ongoing construction work on the Hampden Bridge Bundle Project. The road will close at 7:00 p.m. and reopen at 5:00 a.m. tomorrow. We are also planning to move I-95 northbound traffic to our temporary bridge at mile marker 176 on Tuesday, October 13th.
GARDINER - The Maine Department of Transportation will begin demolition of the Bridge Street Bridge on October 22nd. The Bridge Street Bridge was built in 1917. It carries Route 201 over the Cobbossecontee Stream in downtown Gardiner. Crews have already begun construction on the new bridge. We will be sliding the more-than-700-ton structure into place over the course of several days. The bridge slide is scheduled for the first week in November. Once the new bridge is in place, crews will work on connecting utilities and paving before the new bridge can open to traffic.
UPDATE: Because we expect rain tomorrow, this paving is now scheduled for Tuesday, October 20th.
SCARBOROUGH - The Maine Department of Transportation will be doing paving work on Route 114 in Scarborough tomorrow. The work is being done between New Road and Running Hill Road. The work is scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Drivers should expect lane closures and plan for delays. The contractor on this project is St. Laurent & Sons Excavation, Inc. out of Lewiston.
UPDATE:
Route 1 in Stockton Springs will be reopened to traffic at sunrise tomorrow (Saturday, October 17th). There will be an alternating, single-lane traffic pattern on Monday while crews install guardrails and perform striping operations.
We'd like to thank the members of the traveling public for their patience and understanding while we complete this important work.
Original press release from 9-3-2020:
CAMDEN - The Maine Department of Transportation and Town of Camden will be making sidewalk and drainage improvements to Elm Street (Route 1) in Camden. The project area begins at Union Street and extends north approximately one-quarter of a mile, just past Bay View Street.
Our work may begin impacting traffic on October 26th. Construction operations will stop during the winter months and resume in the spring. Our estimated final completion date on this project is June 11th, 2021.
CANTON - The Maine Department of Transportation will be conducting slope stabilization work along Route 140 in Canton. The project area begins about a half-mile east of Canton Point Road and extends west for about one-third of a mile. Work is scheduled to begin on October 26th and wrap up for the winter by November 25th. We will return in the spring to continue the work. Flaggers will control traffic. This project is necessary because the bank is eroding, and we need to move the road alignment away from it. The contractor on this project is Pratt & Sons, Inc. out of Mechanic Falls.
MANCHESTER - The Maine Department of Transportation is performing paving work and making other safety improvements on Route 202 in Manchester today and tomorrow. Drivers should expect lane closures between 6:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The project area begins at the Manchester/Winthrop line and extends east for a little more than one mile. The contractor on this project is All States Asphalt out of Richmond. The contract amount is $1,026,575.
UPDATE: This traffic shift is now scheduled for Thursday, November 5th at approximately 10:00 a.m. It has been delayed several times due to weather.
