The LAP is the Maine Department of Transportation’s commuter bus service between Lewiston/Auburn and Portland, two of Maine’s largest population and job centers.  While the LAP’s focus is on connecting workers and potential workers to job opportunities, the service is open to everyone and for all trip purposes.

The LAP serves as an indicator of the demand and potential market for enhanced public transportation between the Portland and Lewiston/Auburn metropolitan regions.  Service began in July 2024.  With the two-year agreement between MaineDOT and RTW Management for operation of The LAP service ending on June 30, MaineDOT and RTW completed a one-year extension for continued operation of the service from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027.

Service is provided seven days a week, from 5:00 a.m. to midnight Monday through Friday and from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekends.  The LAP makes stops at Bates College, the Lewiston Oak Street Bus Station, the Auburn Transportation Center, the Maine Turnpike Exit 75 park and ride in Auburn, Portland’s Monument Square, and the Portland Transportation Center. The one-way trip takes just over one hour.
