Intersection Improvements in Pownal

POWNAL - The Maine Department of Transportation is making improvements to the intersection of Hallowell Road (Route 9), Pownal Road, and Elmwood Road in Pownal. This work will involve sporadic lane closures. The contractor on this project is Pratt & Sons of Mechanic Falls. The contract amount is $127,980. We expect all work to be finished by the end of November.

UPDATE: New Traffic Pattern in Edgecomb

UPDATE: The beginning date of the closure has changed from August 16th to August 23rd.

EDGECOMB - The Maine Department of Transportation wants members of the traveling public to be aware of changing traffic patterns at the intersection of Route 1 and Route 27 (Boothbay Road) in Edgecomb. Beginning August 23rd, northbound Route 27 traffic will be detoured to Cross Road in order to access Route 1. We expect this detour to be in place until early September.

Open-House Meeting on Machias Causeway

MACHIAS - The Maine Department of Transportation will be holding an open-house format meeting in Machias on Tuesday, September 14th. The meeting will be held on the causeway from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the history, status, and regulatory requirements of the feasibility study related to the Machias Dyke Bridge. Members of the public will be able to interact with, ask questions of, and provide comments to members of MaineDOT as well as to our federal counterparts and consulting partners.

Frank J. Wood Bridge Inspection

BRUNSWICK/TOPSHAM - The Maine Department of Transportation will be performing a bridge inspection of the Frank J. Wood Bridge between Tuesday, September 14th and Thursday, September 16th. This bridge carries Route 201 between Brunswick and Topsham. The Frank J. Wood Bridge is a fracture critical bridge. The Federal Highway Administration requires inspections of fracture critical bridges at least every two years. Because of the poor condition of the Frank J. Wood Bridge, MaineDOT engineers inspect it annually. The structure is scheduled to be replaced.

Final Paving on Piscataqua River (I-95) Bridge in Kittery

KITTERY - Final paving operations on the Piscatacqua River (I-95) Bridge in Kittery are scheduled to begin next week. This part of the "Maine Ahead" project remains approximately six weeks ahead of schedule. Final paving had originally been scheduled for early 2022. The contractor, SPS New England, is now planning to make the following closures to accommodate final paving work on the bridge and its approaches.

Upcoming Night Work on Madawaska Bridge Project

MADAWASKA - The Madawaska-Edmundston International Bridge Replacement Project will involve night work for approximately two weeks. The contractor is planning to do excavation work from Monday, September 20th through Saturday, October 2nd. The work will begin at 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and end at 6:00 a.m. the following morning. Day work will also continue during this period.

Deer Isle-Sedgwick Bridge Survey Work and Lane Closures

HANCOCK COUNTY - The Maine Department of Transportation and its consulting partners will be conducting survey work on the Deer Isle-Sedgwick Bridge from Tuesday, September 28th through Wednesday, October 6th. This work will require partial and full closures of the bridge.

Drivers should expect alternating, single-lane traffic patterns between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on four different days: Tuesday, September 28th; Wednesday, September 29th; Friday, October 1st; and Wednesday, October 6th. Flaggers will control traffic.
